  • LOL, the 90s....

  • what have I become my sweetest friend everyone I know goes away in the end..

  • So, I can't help but wonder why these twits can't appreciate the beautifully amazing song instead of worrying about drugs.

  • 36 people forgot to hurt themselves today

  • @GentlemanofWolves 37 should have

  • i like the original more

  • @BlueOnionGroup This is the original

  • @SkitsNdip without bowie.....

  • @BlueOnionGroup Oh lol!

  • I wonder if trent did coke with bowie

  • As much as I like this song and David Bowie.. I have to say, this version is absolutely terrible. :(

  • Wonder if they did concaine together too...

  • @sulphites01 no, concaine didnt come out till 2011

  • Lol this isn't about drugs at all

  • @hellchild he went into detox in 96 for heroin guy. This song is about girl not cocaine.

  • @mrdigz198 and he talks about needles because... its about heroin

  • Wow, a cover by Johnny Cash, and a live performance with David Bowie, what a fucking accomplishment this song was.

  • @WOODY9879 Trent wrote this song when he was getting clean.

  • @mrdigz198 he didnt start to get clean till early 2000's guy, thru the 90's he was still a huge cocaine addict

  • Special meaning to all heroin addicts that got clean. Always be a special song for me

  • I was at this show, the memories still give me goose bumps

  • Yeah, Reznor stole a song from Johnny Cash and Bowie stole songs from Nirvana and Vanilla Ice. Waddayanow.

  • @AntonKuzmin are you actually that stupid?

  • @excelisinsane Sarcasm.

  • The compliment to Reznor is that Cash covered it. Wouldn't worry too much about people mistaking the authorship. Reznor's fans (and I'm one) will make sure that no one forgets where the song came from.

There are examples of covers being better than the original, after all. Consider "cold missouri waters" by James Keelaughan, but covered by Cry Cry Cry. Or (perhaps more famously) "Blinded by the light" by Springsteen, and covered by Manfred Mann.

  • I get to be the 667th Comment :)

Solomon's ECCLESIASTES in The Bible is all about these feelings, and how they come from the hopeless state of all people. It's the dark poetical book of The Bible. It's depressing but cool. I think that God is so much more poetic than we can ever imagine. I think that He even understands our plight of immortality and confusion better than we do..... somehow.

  • Shut the fuck up and listen

  • Love how Trent is emotional thru the entire song like bringing back the devil inside. Hey that's a good lyric.

  • beautiful...its trent song...95

  • the first song that plays, right before hurt, what's the name of it??!?!? Sounds so good but i can't find the name of it :S

  • @urso93 It is a remix of THE PERFECT DRUG. I'm not sure which one though.

  • To clear up all your arguements.....Johnny Cash sang this song as his last song and gave all credits to Nine Inch Nails, who originated this song!!!!!! Johnny rocks!! Awesome version of this song....

  • Comment removed

  • I thought Johnny Cash wrote The Man Who Smells Like Hurt.

'I am still right here' says David, and David is correct.

  • Yes,yes, Barack is his first name.....

  • No you guys got it all wrong, Obama wrote it! I also heard he is working on his own version maybe even with the killers

  • @strudel60 who? barack obama lol

  • seven dust does a remake on this also check it out

  • what have a i become my sweetest friend

  • Comment removed

  • Heroin is one hell of a drug!

  • For all those bitching about who wrote what--seriously? Both versions are amazing, so stfu and enjoy the music!!!

  • maybe they wrote it, but Johnny Cashs version is waaaaaaaay better.

  • @Matriculon Johnny Cash can hit all of like three notes.

  • What a perfect combination. This is amazing, so much better than all the shit in the charts these days, i was born at the wrong time haha.

  • Wow. Wow. Wow. Love the two together. Great duet! The song was already beautiful, this just made it beautiful in a different way. :D

  • everyone who thinks this is a j cash song is a full on retard.great version btw.

  • Eerie...But excellent!

  • tbh I think JC used it as a euology for himself, and possibly an epitaph, he recognised the poignancy in Trents lyrics and fitted them into his own past,,, so Trent has been recognised and acknowledged by JC,,,can't be all that bad can it! :)

  • DeliveryMan has no penis because Trent cut it and then use it as a dildo to fuck del's woman

there is plenty of evidence xD

  • trent reznor made, wrote the song, put all his feelings out into, and worked very hard on this song. this video is from 1995, and cash didnt cover it until 2002. seriosly?

  • @dudeitsmeginn i was born in 1995. so im cooler in a way, some how..........i dont know

  • @dudeitsmeginn yeah... *seriously

  • @dudeitsmeginn jOHNNY LIVED IT

  • @johnjacilene So did Trent... just in a different way.

  • by far a better audio version. no disrespect to J. Cash for making a great song.

  • @gabegarcia7676

    cash didnt write this song.

  • Excellent harmonies. Kudos, Bowie.

  • Is there a way to disable comments on Youtube? Because I can't help read them sometimes and I always regret it.

  • @jravell - just exert some self-control and DO NOT READ THEM. Watch the video, then move on.

  • @jravell lol! (i agree)

But really, its called life... use it as a small lesson in how to allow things you disagree with roll off your back :D

  • Just beautiful...... as well as haunting.

  • I was fortunate enough to see bowie and reznor sing this live in portland in '95. Best concert ever.

  • Yo Trent I'm gonna let you finish, but Johnny Cash wrote "Hurt"! One of the best songs of all time. OF ALL TIME

  • GREAT SONG WRITTEN BY THE ONE & ONLY TRENT REZNOR ...

  • wow, to many idiots think cash wrote this masterpiece.... no Mr.Trent Reznor did. so.... shut the fuck up bout cash writin it, dont get me wrong, cash's version, is bad ass as well. but 2 completely diff things they r singing bout.

  • @MrChevelless1972 indeed, although it is Trent's song Cash made it his own when he did it which is a beautiful thing, both versions wonderful and both meanings completely different from the other.

  • Bowie must have started doing heroin on this tour

  • @IAmIronMant...you are right about Bowie...he was really sick on this tour. There was an announcement about it, IIRC. We had also seen him in Hartford on an earlier tour (Glass Spider, with Peter Frampton) and it was night and day.

  • THIS IS AWESOME!

  • First I comment that NIN sucks and can't play, then I wait for two weeks and comment that Johnny looks like a fidgeting carcass just to "stir up" the conversation :)

  • I saw this concert back in 95... NIN was fantastic, but Bowie was complete shite. Bowie couldn't hold a tune, his voice was terrible, and it only took a few songs after NIN had left the stage for almost everyone in the arena to leave as well. As a Bowie fan... it was the most disappointing concert I'd ever been to. I really felt sorry for him, by the time we left... there were maybe a thousand people left in the arena that was sold out at 17,000 some capacity.

  • @IAmIronMant that's weird,.I'm a big fan of both, have seen most of his concerts, never seen or heard DB out of tune or singing badlyl, but as far as I know the tour with NIN was a succes,a pity. at the time I saw him in Holland his first Europian concert of the outside tour,he was ab fab ,but no NIN they continued touring in the states!!The free NIN-David Bowie live d.load sounds really cool both r great ! Am glad I didn't have to see that, DB being shite !

  • bowie and trent .. sends a chill right down ur spine , and it feels great :D

  • great work on the audio, thanx!

  • after all these years still sends a shiver down my spine

  • Nine Inch Nails wrote this song....Johny Cash just redid it..both versions are amazing

  • DelveryManBoy: You have no channel on youtube. What are you talking about?

  • Two of the most powerful muscians in the world sharing the stage singing one of the most powerful songs in the world, amazing..

  • @DeliveryManBoy He he he. You're a silly goose.

  • do people real ly think that Cash wrote this fab song???

The same story with Nirvana,''the man who sold the world''a classic of DB,people saying ''I saw Bowie he did a cover of Nirvana, some people live under a rock!!!

  • @zenobowie your an a hole johnny was the beast

  • @Timmyhart15 idiot,can't u read !?

  • @zenobowie what is even more depressing is some people think Sheryl Crow wrote all of those classic songs she covered

  • @IZIEIDxViDz most of them fans I suppose,I noticed that with Nirvana at the time !

  • @zenobowie - Worse still I once met someone that genuinely thought The Doors covered Will Youngs 'Light my Fire'....Hells Bells :-s

  • Ok. To put everyone in their places and stop debating about cash and NIN.

Nine Inch Nails is the original , Trent reznor wrote it, It was released in The downward spiral 1994, Cash covered the song in 2001.

  • This dude (DeliveryManBoy) is posting on a bunch of NIN videos. He's trolling you guys... I don't have to watch his videos on his channel because I know he's laughing his ass off at people getting up in arms about Mr. Cash writing "Hurt". Those who already know, don't waste your time arguing with him. Enjoy NIN, enjoy the weather, enjoy life and don't sweat the small shit.

  • @TrentsReznor wrong. check your facts before you go making wild statements. it was johnny cash who originally wrote this song. he just never had it recorded or copyrighted because he thought it was too special. Trent Reznor heard the song at a private engagement and recorded it as his own the following year. While johnny Cash never made a big deal about it, he was deeply offended to have his song covered by a necropheliac. There is a bit of evidence to this fact on my channel I have provided.

  • @DeliveryManBoy Actually, you, sir, are incorrect. And before you go around spreading lies, here is the truth. Rick Rubin (famous producer, part owner of Columbia Records - VERY well known in the music business) introduced "Hurt" to Johnny Cash in the final years that Cash was alive. "Hurt" as part of a series of songs and albums that Rubin felt Cash could put a very strange and unusual twist to. Other songs include Sting's "I hung my Head" and Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus".

  • Comment removed

  • @DeliveryManBoy Incase you still didn't believe me, go to Google and search for "NPR Rick Rubin Cash", click on the first link. Actually, it's even listed in the "Editorial Review" section on Amazon when you search for Cash's album: "American IV: The Man Comes Around". I was going to post the links for you, but YouTube doesn't allow links to be posted in comments. Reznor himself was even quoted saying that "Hurt" was no longer his song because of how well Cash remade it as a compliment to Cash.

  • @DeliveryManBoy Just out of curiousity, who told you your facts? Your buddies? Don't believe everything you hear, even though it sounds like it could be true. I've never heard your theory before, and really, you should always site your sources when you make an assertion, let alone win an argument. I'm not trying to be rude, but you are telling other people to "check their facts" and then immediately make an unverified assertion. Citing your "YouTube Channel" doesn't count.

  • @bopptb Those of you who would say that Cash's song is nothing compared to the Nine INch Nails version? How can you support a man who blatantly rips off a legendary country stars work and then trys to make himself look like the original composer? Further, how can you support a cross dresser who often plays with parts of dead animals? It turns my stomach. And I know your going to go cut and paste the wiki article, or tell me you have the album. It's a conspiracy. Proof on my channel.

  • Comment removed

  • @DeliveryManBoy Stop it. I even remember when Cash's version was released. I had been listening to the NIN version for years. This is a nice one with Bowie, another favourite of mine.

  • @DeliveryManBoy Really? well then Cash took his sweet time releasing it seeing that NIN's version was written 8 YEARS before Johnny Cash covered it, besides songs like that arent Cash's style, so i doubt he wrote it, I love both versions though.

  • @DeliveryManBoy Wow, conspiracy theory much?

  • @DeliveryManBoy What the hell dude? I've seen you trolling around like every cover video of this song. Your obviously wrong. Go ride your bike and do something worthwhile.

  • @DeliveryManBoy no way, written by Trent Reznor, got the anbum since '94.Cash probably didn't have a clue at that time, remind you his own son tells in a special about Cash that he had to change the lyrics a bit,and it was his son he told him to cover Trent's ''Hurt'',and you can see him listening to Trent's ""hurt'' of the ''Downward spiral'' album!!Cash listening btw.He covered many songs esp. the last 2 albums have many!!You better check your facts!!

  • Comment removed

  • @TrentsReznor I feel so stupid,you're so right !!

  • @DeliveryManBoy impposible nine inch nails released the song back in 1994 on the downward spiral record

and johhny cash covered the song in 2003

johhny cash said him self that it was a cover

anyway i think your just trying to get channel views.

  • @DeliveryManBoy

    You are retarded!!!

It is not even remotely debatable!!!

You don't know Trent Reznor and you didn't know Johny Cash, because if you did, you wouldn't be making such f**king stupid statements!!!

You are either a troll, or you are mentally retarded!!!

    Get a life!!!

  • @DeliveryManBoy I would not watch your stupid channel even if you paid cash.

    Fuck off

  • @DeliveryManBoy

oh so you're the worst person ever is what you're telling me? oh its spelled Reznor, and he's kind of a lyrical genius. and this video is amazing.

  • @DeliveryManBoy Obvious troll is obvious.

  • i'm really confused, is this guy for real??, i just checked his channel and i cant work out if he's just a helmet, or actually serious.....

  • Man, they sound great together. Wish they did a studio version of that...

  • Is it just me or does deliverymanboy sound like the mom from water boy. Calling Trent the devil. And he doesn't even listen to what you say. He keeps posting the same fucking comments on every video. He is a fucking moron, who can't except shit. So do us all a favor and just GO!

  • Maybe this is the one you were thinking of:

Hurt: By Roy Hamilton, written 1954

  • @Deliverymanboy. I'd love to see these documents that defy the laws of time and space. I think you simply can't accept that a musician you hate wrote a song you love so you've built up this complex delusion around the whole subject. After seeing how many people have discounted you, it's pretty clear that it's not really about the song. You know, therapy might not be a bad route for you, and I actually mean this sincerely. God can be strong guidance but sometimes we all need a little extra help.

  • @DeliveryManBoy

dude stop trolling. not funny anymore.

if u actually bought the single u would know the credits clearly state the song was written by Trent Reznor.

doesn't get more official than that.

and no offense for your great johnny cash...but he could have never come up with such melody and songwriting....not even if he lived another million years.

  • @animativ Cash damn well could and has. And yes Trent wrote it but even Trent thinks Cash's version is gold. Why be a jackass and argue over which is better? They're DIFFERENT. Just live and let live without being a douchnozzle.

  • Comment removed

  • @Deliverymanboy. They're both great versions but before you blindly assert, I'd suggest looking at history. Unless you assume MR. Reznor built himself a time machine and stole Cash's song 7 years later, the likelihood of you being right is slim. Also, wouldn't you say Johnny Cash insinuating he's Jesus is equally sacreligious? Or maybe him covering a song by the satanic tinged Danzig years earlier? I'd suggest removing your holy head from out of your ass before you suffocate yourself.

  • @Fordyshoor I have supplied plenty of proof on my channel that johnny Cash wrote this song in 1974 and that Trent Reznor stole the song and covered it on the downward spiral in 1994. There are documents where Juaqine Pheonix attempts to alert the major news outlets of the Nine Inch Nails conspiracy. Interview Notation of his daughters making similar claims. Copyrighted paperwork and legal documents from Trent Reznor's lawyers that show contempt. I have made a solid case Trent stole the song.

  • @DeliveryManBoy ...Johnny said he covered it dude, you know nothing.

  • @DeliveryManBoy Really now, well then you'll have no trouble believing that I am Ghandi's mum, even though I'm fifteen. oh yeah, and Abraham Lincoln is Jesus' gardner.

    Wanker.

  • @7PsycoMantis7 As Abraham Lincoln, I can verify that statement. I'm also an Alien from the Same plane tthat the Hindu Gods are from, I founded Shintoism, was Cleopatra when I founded ancient Greece and I use my Sixth eye to hypnotize Lawn Gnomes into coming to life and worshiping me as God.

  • @MajickDemoniack Don't we all..?

  • @DeliveryManBoy And I like Jhonny Cash too.

  • @DeliveryManBoy

I can't believe that such an alarming number of people don't get the joke.

I myself had a good chuckle.

  • @ReluctantlyAwake what joke? I have evidence on my channel that proves everything that I have ever said to anyone is true.

  • Trent Reznor wrote this song, makes me wonder who changed lines ;)

Anyway, both songs deserve to be heard and enjoyed.

  • this is a really cool duet in general, and a sweet performance of the song

and i think the only version that ever mattered, was Trent`s. originals are usually better then covers. "Hurt" is no exception to this.

  • @Wolfysama Oddly enough, Trent himself would disagree with you, he said that he was so blown away by cash's verson of the song that it was no longer his.

  • I'll add some kindle.

@Everyone responding to the rantings of an illogical Internet Kid nitwit that is DeliveryManBoy, please continue to feed the fire to the obvious Troll. There is further enjoyment to be had out of this.

    Now the flame rises higher!

  • @DeliveryManBoy Well I'm glad to see you ignorant Christians blindly believing what you want to without bothering to do any research. Keep up the good work, at least I get a good laugh.

  • @DeliveryManBoy

Cash made it his own in his COVER. Reznor made the song first.

  • @DeliveryManBoy epic troll is epic xDD I like ur style mate :*

  • David Bowie's voice is SO .sexy, I SO would: anytime ,anywhere, anyhow; even though is old, even though I'm gay!

  • Ist there is THAT v. special song, which I adore, sung by Trent, and who else too but David Bowie: aka God...

    Divine combination..

  • Does anyone know the music at the very beginning, it sounds really good.

  • Don't feed the trolls people, and they will go away (ie, DeliveryManBoy). Even the fish know that this song is a Trent Reznor original. He's just baiting y'all because he loves any kind of feedback, even the negative kind. And unfortunately many of you are falling for it.

  • @voodooseed72 And I see him on almost every video of this song as I have been looking for the best version.Obviously he has made this into a crusade and nobody will get it through to him.All the articles, facts ect. won't stop him.Seems funny that Cash said in the " Rolling Stone" how much he admired Trent's lyrics.Funny coming from the man Trent "stole" the song from him.Hey, it keeps him off the streets, he's safer taking his venom to comment threads.......Peace!

  • @trippinvic there is plenty of evidence to support the claim that Johnny Cash wrote the song hurt. There are multitude's of evidence on my channel which speaks to the matter at hand and proves, in my opinion, beyond a shadow of a doubt that Johnny Cash wrote the song hurt. Trent Reznor did not write it, he just made a horrendous and obnoxious cover. If you don't believe all the evidence on my channel, just do a simple google search and you will find plenty of evidence.

  • @trippinvic The dude is a troll, plain and simple. He knows the truth, everyone knows Trent wrote it, even a moron like him, but people responding to him, even in a negative manner, is what he lives for. That's just how sad and pathetic his life is. Unfortunately there are many just like him no matter where you look on the internets. Just check any given music video here or any imdb board and you'll see what I mean. He's not even worthy of a direct response. He's a troll-baiting piece of poo.

  • @voodooseed72 I have seen alot of it on many comment threads, it seems to be a major hobby to some people.Yes, it is pretty sad. What bothers me is seeing all the negativity it creates. Johnny Cash and Trent Reznor both are ground breaking and gifted musicians and I hate to see either of their names being bashed over this foolishness.Ah well, what can you do but try to ignore it and not get baited into responding to them.Like arguing with a rock.No one wins and it's a waste of effort.

  • @voodooseed72 LOL-"poo"? Love it! Missed the irony the first time.Nice to see someone expressing anger without resorting to cursing.Very well done.No troll food from you! Kudos!

  • @trippinvic Have you seen any of DeliveryManBoy's videos? He even attempts 'singing' this, it's really funny, but kinda sad too. The dude obviously has a few screws loose, to say the least. I kinda feel sorry for him, but even more-so, I pity his parents who brought such a waste of space into the world. He's the greatest excuse for pro-choice I've ever seen. Besides, no pregnancy that's a result of in-breeding should go full term.

  • Comment removed

  • @voodooseed72 I checked his page to see his "proof" and as I am significantly older and read alot I would have heard of this while it was happening.I did, however, read how much JC loved the song and was pleased to get permission from Trent to cover it.JC was a strong man of great character and would not have just let it go if his beloved song was stolen. He not only insults Trent but Johnny as well. Some way to respect his idol, potraying him as a spineless wuss.Incredibly disrespectful and sad.

  • @voodooseed72 Damn, someone else is making an abortion joke? thats like the 3rd different one this morning. I guess you were the first to put the inbreeding twist on it, but damn, I thought you were better than that voodooseed. I had come to expect great things from you. You were the first to put a whole different spin on the resistance. Now your just like raputin67rr or eXXXaJackXXX from the Nine INch Nails - Hurt With Lyrics page.

  • @DeliveryManBoy

Your fanaticism of Johnny Cash blinds you to the truth.

  • @DeliveryManBoy

Trent Reznor wrote the song and Johnny Cash covered it. There are plenty of interviews and other sources to confirm that fact. Also your little story about your uncle does nothing to change the fact that you were wrong about the write of the song. You may just be another internet troll since no sane being can possibly be that oblivious.

  • @DeliveryManBoy

I doubt your homemade videos could trump over interviews by both Trent Reznor and Johnny Cash and the fact that Reznor wrote the song in 1994 while Cash's version was released in 2002. Cash even admitted that it was a cover. Any Google search would lead to undeniable evidence that Reznor wrote the song and Cash covered it. For a guy who practically worships Johnny Cash, you sure know nothing about one of his biggest hits/covers.

  • @DeliveryManBoy

You're just trying to get channel views. You are the only person in the world who seems to think Cash wrote it. Also, I can't imagine Cash talking about drug addiction. "The needle tears a hole, the old familiar sting, try to kill it all away, but I remember everything." You just WISH Cash wrote it, and its strange because its probably the biggest cover of all time and everyone in the music industry knows it. And finally, those lyrics are very fitting to NIN's style, not Cash's.

  • @DeliveryManBoy How about you crawling back into that black hole from which you came from? That would stop all the negative comments you're complaining about in an instant. Also, like I told you in the comment on your 'version' which you deleted, mental illness is hereditary. Yes, your uncle was obviously a nutcase, but all the signs point to you being one too. Sad, but true. Seek help, take your meds, get lost.

PS, 'aloud' and 'allowed' are two entirely different words, you illiterate troll.
