Read the actual law, the police have to have already stopped you for some other reason (say speeding or something) and THEN IF they think you might be illegal they can as for your ID. That's it they are just going to ask you for your ID, bam, that's it show your ID and it's all over. A minor inconvenience if your a citizen.
