Oy! Lovely lament, no doubt. As always, I am brought to tears by the beauty of the sound, and long for home. Yet, does not a vid shot in the loo take so much away from the joy of the lament?
I'm guessing he's in the bathroom for the humidity. I do that in the winter, just after showering in the morning. Dry winter air and uilleann pipes just don't mix well...
If it's your first set, start with a D practice set. They are ubiquitous, reasonably priced and enable you to play with others and along to most CDs and tutors.
Thank you. I should have dialled back the treble a bit.
As for the regs - you're a really good piper, at least to my ears. I'm sure you will use them with taste. Personally I prefer being a guitarist: that Ibanez jazz box cost me less than 500 euro and the Roland amp was about another 100. I have a pretty good idea about how much a decent set of pipes cost, and the trouble is you can only really play one genre of music on them.
exelent playing man. im a flute player . but now im thinking of maby taking on the Uilleann Pipe Half Set much bay your good example and feel for the instrument.
I'm looking forward to the arrival of a C set myself. Lemonwood, aka Castella Boxwood, inspired by both Kenna and Coyne. Straight bass drone and a 4th (G) drone. Can't wait!
Christian, do you know which historical maker Geoff based that chanter on? I know his own C set is Harrington, but I thought maybe he did some after others as well.
Beautiful. I see you are playing sitting on the throne. I play in the same place the acoustics are great with the tiles. It sure beats reading the paper. Your playing is inspirational. All the best Macca.
There's a low C there. A full set of drones has the tenor, baritone, and bass in the tonic of the chanter. The tenor being the same octave as the chanter. Historically (late 18th c. to late 19th c.), these type of pipes (narrow bore) were made in Bb, B, C, or C#. There are a few of the older sets (by James Kenna) that are close to modern concert pitch but that wasn't the norm in the old days. Concert pitch pipes began appearing around the beginning of the 20th century.
What a great sound. You could do softer lighting for mood. Ok. I like the best the melody notes E F G and D above. Particularly the F and D above. You could merely improvise like this slowly, yes? I don't hear low low C. That's what I had meant. There's middle and low; I hear that. Just, not low low C. Sounds great!
Well done. First time I see a man plying such wonderful instrument in Bath Room :)

You've found the best spot in a house for playing such instrument..
What amazes me the most is the ability to play galician music along galician instruments in C.
Very beautiful...

Ce n'est pas un bouchon (cork), un couvercle (top, cover, cap, lid) ou un abattant (flap, leaf). Enormous Laughter !!!

Graham1954 3 years ago
I play GHB but would love to learn uilleann. Is it better for the chanter to have keys and how many is a good number? Anybody?
Wyllough 3 years ago
For most of the Irish piping repertoire, no keys are needed. If you get a chanter with blocks, they can be mounted later.
silbenklempner 3 years ago
That was just beautiful. Thank you.

The pipes in C# and later Union pipes were actually played in Ireland, Scotland and England. All three countries developed the narrow bore instrument
