I was probably unclear in my criticism. What I meant to imply is that you can't control your diaphragm to use it or not use it. Your diaphragm *has* to contract, alternating with your intercostal muscles, in order to breathe. So, no one can teach you a "special" kind of breathing for singers where you use your diaphragm. You always use your diaphragm. What you *can* learn is how to relax your abdominal muscles, so that your diaphragm can drop lower, pushing other organs out of the way.
