@leotoro51 Thanks, but it could have been better, it was rendered at a very low resolution with a lousy compression setting. The music is from a Das Boot soundtrack, I have no idea which album it came from or what the track name is. The "guitar" sound your referring to is a synthesizer, not a guitar.

NATO analysts gave soviet submarines nicknames because official deminitations were too difficult to spell. One of them was "whiskey" class (I hope to have written it well!), thought a simpler version of Type XXI

Of course that submarine (a real submarine, not only a submergible) could be very important for the Battle of the Atlantic, but IMHO technology required to build a grat number of them was OVER '40-ies technology. We know that USSR, more than 10 years later, decided to build "class Whiskey" instead of "class Zulu" ( near copy of type XXI) because of the latter was to "complicated"..

DAS BOOT in my humble opinion is by far the best submarine movie yet to be filmed!!!! Seeing it for the first time in 1982 on the big screen with english subtitles and nothing edited out, was something I"ll never forget

yes you are right. but ask yourself why they did not see any convoy action and most never sunk a single ship though first XXI boats entered service in June 1944 when there were plenty convoys and ships around, strange huh? Germany is in grave danger, a year to fight still and no action from such wonderboats whatsoever, one would think training times would be cut short to send them to front asap but they never went to frontline. where were they all this time and doing what before being scuttled?!

This animation was made with Lightwave, not SH3, it has absolutely nothing to do with SH3 or any other video game.

The Uboat model and water were already set up as a demo file in Lightwave. I just set up my own camera, tweaked the materials and lighting, keyframed the animation and rendered that short segment as a test. The water effect takes a LONG time to render. The frames were rendered at a very low resolution, so that is why it looks fuzzy on the utube player.

Is lightwave free or did you buy it? I imagine it takes a lot of memory/computer power to run such a program?

Lightwave is not free. I believe it currently costs around $1200-1300 US. I used a 3Ghz Pentium 4 with 1meg of RAM to render that short, low-rez clip and I left the machine on over night. The moving water and particle systems (for the froth and water pouring out of the flood holes) is what took so long to render.
