I remember watching this live when it first aired. I think the show was called "West 57th" or something like that. I have this recorded on VHS somewhere...
@tippyray only according to her. According to David the dress belonged to his mother. And from what I've heard and read and seen, she has lied before. I'm not saying she's lying now, but it is questionable.
@BOWIEGIRL30 - I know what you mean - but I think he lies too. And she has massive details in her book on the designer, when they saw the dresses, how he tried one on, and how the designer let it go at a $ loss. He glosses over these contentious little items in his history and I get the feeling they have been battling it out all these years. The truth may lie somewhere in between.
@tippyray I agree. I'm not saying he was telling the truth either. I think the truth does lie somewhere in between. I don't think he lies on purpose though. I think he was just way too cracked out at the time and cannot remember what really happened. Perhaps she did pick out the dress and it was designed like his mother's? lol
@BOWIEGIRL30 I'm not sure which dress you're talking about as the original comment was removed, but if it's the Man Who Sold the World dress, David is on record at the time as saying it's a 'man's dress. A dress designed for a man.' So possibly not his mother's?
@LordScreaming No not that one. I know that one was designed for a man. It was the first dress he wore which wasn't on an album cover. He wore it in a photo in front of the house he grew up in which he stated that it was his mother's dress. But Angie may have well picked out the dress for the album cover though he denies that too. Then again the dress he wore in front of his old house may not have been his mother's either. As I said, he was cracked out a lot back then.
He has such a good vibe about him, which is why I love watching him in interviews.I don't think anyone has had a more insightful stage presence or personality, then the man himself.
Fuck it, right? "Sell out" or not, the Serious Moonlight tour saw Bowie in top form performance wise for the first time in a long time. It was a victorious tour.
That interviewer had a point there, Bowie was, and is, a very calculating person, he was indeed striving for "success" no matter what genre, he tried 'm all ,before finaly striking gold with Ziggy.Even that was too long. Quote'75:"I've Rocked My Roll,I Will Be The Next Sinatra,And I Will Succeed".
Doesn't antimatter, he was bloody good at it (till '86 that is).
yes i think he was striving for success artistic success and he indeed succeeded

I reckon he "sold out" in the eighties so he could make loads of money and fell free to create stuff in the nineties , which some of it was brill!

Bowie should credit Angela a bit more for his early look. She's the one who put him in a dress that created the buzz.
