And also it has more features, which were known as card readers, backwards compatibility, 4 usb ports, and the ability to install an operating system like lynux. Backward compatibility is an issue with the "slim," too. I think you're right that it's going to hurt the Playstation family because they only make the "slim" now. The problem is that people that like PS2 games (who doesn't?!) will go and buy a "fat" one from Ebay or a friend or something because the "slim" doesn't play PS2 games. They won't make as much money as they did with the "fat." When they do start losing money because of the "slim," maybe they'll make the "fat" ones again. Hope so!

I prefer the PS3 fat just because the slim has water down parts due to make it more affordable. I own the 80gb Metal Gear limited edition one and I have no plans on getting the slim. The slim to me is just ugly , it looks like a regular system while the original (fat) system looks classy and expensive. Even when I run out of space im just going to upgrade my PS3 hard drive.

The main reason was the parts the older models are backwards compatible , the news arent because it requires a different chip which is more expensive, in order to get the price down they had to cut some things out then by time parts will get less expensive due to newer technology.
