It sounds like the mods gave it a much fatter tone than stock, but did they also increase the noise level? It seems a little noisier than I think of the reissues being.
Almost everyone has to tear the entire guts out of all their fender amps to get them running "better". Yet the amps to start with were reissues and also even "customshop" amps. I love the fender tone and ill get another one day, but i brought a mark five mesa boogie, and holly shit, when you look inside, its all allen bradley NOS carbon comps, and serious high quality trannies, the caps are absolute top shelf, and the list goes on and on and on. Its about the "what the &%(# is fender thinking?
I have to wonder how much just letting the amps AGE has to do w/ the "vintage" sound. I mean, you let these reissues wear in for 40 years, do they sound better than they do now or, dare I say, even as good as the originals? I guess only time will tell;):)
I don't like the distortion you got going. It's to sparky... I have a BFTW and it tends to do the same, but nor nearly as much as yours. Could be that your guitar is way to beefy for the amp.
I want that Derek Trucks tone. Cause he just has an amazing sound and I heard you just have to Crank the amp to get that Blues-overdrive tone. Which is what Im aiming for, but I dont really want to play WAY loud or have to blow an amp to do it.
and How much did this super reverb cost? Thanks- AZT.
@azombiestool low wattage amp, an attenuator, or a good OD pedal-not dist- would help. I guess you alrady have an SG or something with humbuckers? I would reccomend a low wattage tube combo, and get a really nice overdrive pedal.
Great sound. I have a resissue Super, no mods. I am always looking to maximize my clean tone, since I never play with distortion. Do you think the mods helped the clean tone much?
Back in Nov/2003 it cost $450 by the Toneman. The amp sounds great today and I have not changed any of the tubes. He did a great job. I fouund him on a Harmony Central review for the Super Reverb.
i'm all the way in scotland so i don't quite think i could. Perhaps i could take it somewhere locally and see how much it is. $450 dosen't seem much but i guess in the UK it'll be twice that cos of the availability of parts and what not. thanks for replying :)

Changing tubes will help. Grove tubes have a rating which goes up to 10. 10 being the cleanest and giving the most headroom. My tubes 6L6R2 are rated at 7.
The reverb pot Fender amps could have been a log-pot. Seems the reverbs sweet spot is to narrow. At least I think so, on my Twin Reveb...
