For anyone wondering, this is from the First Chechen War...look at the date....8.1996. So no wonder if these soldiers seem a bit off, they're probably reservists and without any proper supplies because Russia was poor back then. These days the modern Russian special forces Alpha Group pwnes Chechens all over Caucasus.
The vast majority were conscripts who were forced to fight. Alcoholism and drug use was rampant within the ranks, and many of the senior officers were as crooked as they come- Selling weapons to the rebels at night to make money for themselves.
Not to mention the fact that the training of conscripts was inadequate and logistically speaking the troops in Chechnya were suffering big time, so much so that they had to steal food to eat.

The vast majority were conscripts who were forced to fight. Alcoholism and drug use was rampant within the ranks, and many of the senior officers were as crooked as they come- Selling weapons to the rebels at night to make money for themselves.
Not to mention the fact that the training of conscripts was inadequate and logistically speaking the troops in Chechnya were suffering big time, so much so that they had to steal food to eat.

Although, there are not a lot of them, only few men can become ALPHA group, the trainings are very hard and hazardous.
