I feel the same way about my music as he does. When you make music out of love and work hard on it, and dig deep, if your creative, it doesnt need to be categorized in a genre. It is just music, and Tobias is one of the greats. Edguy and my personal favourite Avantasia. Long live this kind of music!

They do not contribute anything to heavy metal, power metal or music in general. This song does not contain a single second of genuine emotion. It feels like fake, pre-packaged music ready for sale to all the angsty and insecure teenagers in the world. It's soulless, dull and monotonous. I don't dislike it, I hate it. But that's just my opinion.

I consider one-third to be a rather large percent of the demographic. There is a 'big professional' magazine, rockhard(dot)de, that issued a review for one of my favourite bands, Woburn House. She gave their sophomore album the lowest rating possible. Her main issue is that she has trouble identifying the album's genre. That is her main reason. If this is the proper standard of a 'professional reviewer' than I am not the worst, IMO.

In this particular case, what you consider as great (i.e. vocals and lyrics) is something that I perceive as horrible, bad, the death of originality and an overall tormenting experience.

It sucks how we are always bombarded with some Rap shit or some screaming bitch on MTV, radio, etc. We the consumers should be allowed to pick our own choices, because the media makes almost impossible for a band like this to be known by the average public!

actually the consumers are allowed to pick our own choices...the sad truth is not everybody can be made happy, and it turns out that the majority of people like that kind of music, so metal fans are one of the small groups of people who are not pleased by the way it is...so in a way, it's not fair to fans of unknown bands, but the majority is still being pleased, so their not careless.

@Antharios It's not that hard really. For instance, I think that songs like "Carry Me Over" and "Lost in Space" are a blight on the musical landscapes. They do not contribute anything to heavy metal, power metal or music in general. This song does not contain a single second of genuine emotion. It feels like fake, pre-packaged music ready for sale to all the angsty and insecure teenagers in the world. It's soulless, dull and monotonous. I don't dislike it, I hate it. But that's just my opinion.

@TophBeiFong2 Quite a lot actually. "Audiences: This video is most popular with: Female, age 13-17". This is one of the three major groups that listen to this song. I consider one-third to be a rather large percent of the demographic. Furthermore, bringing in the fact that he has another project/band does not make Avantasia any less of a painful experience to my ears.

Please, visit metal-observer and see what they think of Avantasia's albums, Lost in Space (Part 1), Lost in Space (Part 2). Before you ask, yes, they do get paid for these reviews and they get the albums, for free, from the site. My comment might even be more forgiving than a reviewer.

@TophBeiFong2 (4) (I truly apologise for writing half a novel, really!) It is unfortunate that you probably do not understand German. There is a 'big professional' magazine, rockhard(dot)de, that issued a review for one of my favourite bands, Woburn House. She gave their sophomore album the lowest rating possible. Her main issue is that she has trouble identifying the album's genre. That is her main reason. If this is the proper standard of a 'professional reviewer' than I am not the worst, IMO.

This entire discussion is not about genre. Though I agree with your statement that there are musical works that defy genre, that there are bands that constantly seek to explore uncharted musical landscapes; "Carry Me Over", however, is not such a song. It easily fits within a well-known genre: pop-rock.

There other songs that require a metal song, they have metal songs. Songs that needed a folk rock song got a folk rock song. Why the hate? Or distaste, whatever.

There are songs of pop-rock that I enjoy and others ("Carry Me Over") that I dislike, nothing more and nothing less. To answer your second question: the hate and distaste stems from my own personal, subjective taste. In this particular case, what you consider as great (i.e. vocals and lyrics) is something that I perceive as horrible, bad, the death of originality and an overall tormenting experience.

What you interpret or define as emotionally strong does not have to be so for everyone else. I have read books and poems that are a better tribute to love; I have heard songs that approach love with more respect (once more: this is my opinion).
