IF you take a look at my other uploads you willsee that the theme is the commonalities, sharings, borrowings, overlaps and points of contact between Greek and Turkish musical traditions. The point of contact here was not the music selections themselves but the actual composers - both were Ottoman Greeks who composed quite successfuly both Ottoman Classical Music and neo Byzantine church music. It was Good Friday when I was inspired because one of the most beautiful of that day's hymns was composed by Petros Peloponissios who was also a very well known figure in the world of Ottoman music.(See the articles written by Bulent Aksoy and Walter Feldman).
Ottoman Classical and neo Byzantine church musics are two related yet quite distinct musical traditions but that doesn't mean there can be no parallels or overlaps. The kemence player you so admire is Ihsan Ozgen, who led the group Bosphorus and, because of a series of concerts he helped organize in Athens, introduced a whole new young generation of Greek musicians to the beauty of Ottoman music. Since then many Greeks have gone to Istanbul to study. Please be more circumspect before accusing.

The point of contact here was not the music selections themselves but the actual composers - both were Ottoman Greeks who composed quite successfuly both Ottoman Classical Music and neo Byzantine church music. It was Good Friday when I was inspired because one of the most beautiful of that day's hymns was composed by Petros Peloponissios who was also a very well known figure in the world of Ottoman music.(See the articles written by Bulent Aksoy and Walter Feldman).

Ottoman Classical and neo Byzantine church musics are two related yet quite distinct musical traditions but that doesn't mean there can be no parallels or overlaps. The kemence player you so admire is Ihsan Ozgen, who led the group Bosphorus and, because of a series of concerts he helped organize in Athens, introduced a whole new young generation of Greek musicians to the beauty of Ottoman music. Since then many Greeks have gone to Istanbul to study. Please be more circumspect before accusing.

This music was embraced by moslem and non- moslems (Greek, Armenian, Jewish, Albanian, and other) composers/performers. Ethnic groups under Ottoman rule in Istanbul had their own well-developed cultures and they were not in need of clinging to any other culture. As long as you do not claim that Ottoman musical tradition (of hundreds of years) is a part and extension of Great Greek-Byzantine tradition we are in safe grounds. One of the authors you mentioned found "the Question of the Origin of Turkish Music is Redundant" (See Turkish Music Quarterly Vol.2, Number 4 August 1989.
