Any true batman fan would totally disagree with a Zack Snyder batman film. He may be a good director but he centres too much around sex and violence, which has nothing to do with the essential heroic roots of the dark knight.

yeah, i know he was talking about the dark knight returns, and i wasn't talking about the dark knight the film, i was talking merely about batman's image.

All in all, they should only portray the most heroic version of batman in any batman film they want to make in future. Apart from Paul Dini, Bruce Timm, Chris Nolan and David Goyer, nobody has really come close to portraying a heroic character.

People who want to see batman portrayed as a drunk asshole definitely dont "get" batman...

dont get me wrong i love batman always have but i think they should do the dark knight returns because i love how bad ass he is as an older yet newer batman showing gotham that the leggend lives on and it shows him at his most vunarable stage and i think that val kilmer would be perfect for the part as batman in the dark knight hes mor bulked up and older just dye his hair partley gray find an old dude to play superman and we got a bad ass movie

As much as I like Snyder and his work (in the right doses), I don't think he's the right guy for The Dark Knight Returns... Or at least not if it's going to be based on Miller's work.

This film, if ever made - and part of me feels like it shouldn't even be attempted cuz you won't beat the book - should be gritty, dramatic and intense. All of snyder's stuff thus far has been far too pretty - even a horror film like Dawn of the Dead - too freakin' pretty... Even Watchmen - Too pretty!

You're talking about TDK as if it was Watchmen.

I can see him taking on TDK cuz Miller and him seem to have the same style; clever nuances mixed with macho action and cool shit. Which is all good if done the right way. And Zack can do it the right way.

They should've never gave him Watchmen tho, I felt so bad after seeing how badly he fucked it up.

I'm still not too clear on what you're saying here... But if I ever saw an adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns done in the style of 300 or anything that Frank Miller has had his paws on I think I'd puke.

I think it's best that that piece of material just remains untouched... Maybe animated would work, but putting actors into those roles, those costumes, creating that atmosphere, those textures... Not gonna happen. And Snyder isn't the one for the job.

I didn't see Snyder pulling off 300 after reading the comic for the same reasons, but he was such a godsend. He actually made it better than the original source. He can pull it off and it'll be amazing. I wasn't impressed with TDKR to be honest. I can't believe it's been so hailed over the years.

The art was beautiful but the story was uninteresting and offered little else other than giving 'Batman his balls back.'

You have to consider the time it was written in and how it was different from everything else. Not sure how you could find the story uninteresting - maybe it has something to do with when you visited the material. It changed everything for Batman - It pushed the mature aspect. You wouldn't have had Tim Burton's films nor the Nolan ones without TDKR.

Yeah, I understand all that. I just didn't dig it though. I don't know what it was, it felt so boring and drawn out. I read it when I was 15 and hated it, then I gave it another go when I was 19, and aside from the art I couldn't say much else about it. Then again I've never been too impressed with any comic book. The only comic book that has blown me away was Watchmen and there hasn't been another one since.

also what is up with all of the Snyder hate comments i find him to be a rather good director. i didn't here many of you guys complaining when he directed that ab workout video called 300. or when he redid a romero classic in dawn of the dead. but when a couple of dumbass critics, who never read watchmen, give the movie a bad review you guys jump on the band wagon. for those of you who truly hate Snyder and all of his movies, i respect that, but for the others make your own damn opinion.

Snyder said he would want to do The Dark Knight Returns which is a Graphic Novel by Frank Miller. It's about an over the hill Batman set on killing the Joker. It has nothing to do with Nolan and his Batman films.

actually it is not truly set on killing the joker, it is more about the affect that batman has on society now that he is back. the killing of the joker is only a few pages long. it is sort of a subplot.

yeah but it is not the entire story. it may have been a turning point but that does not make the story itself. if it were the story the novel would have ended with the death of the joker. it didn't, in fact he died close to about half way through. therefore it is not the entire story, just a subplot that adds to the madness of batman's return. in fact you even proved my point for me, this is what you said "It's what set of many different things WITHIN THE STORY"
