  • My name is Dave Chopin, I am distantly related , funnily enough I have a mobile disco so there is a musical link!

  • INTOUCHABLE

  • Your velocity (and I don't mean tempo) is very good. You have excellent control over those keys. :D

  • thumbs up for absinthe

  • Si toi aussi si les Intouchables qui ta emmener ici ... <3

  • Playing this well after only a year and a half? Someone's either musically gifted or a hard worker, probably both. If you've kept up your progress since this recording you must be fantastic by now.

  • This is on The Lost Room!!

Such a brilliant piece, I hope I can learn it someday.....

  • @ELEPHANTspoon No time like the present (Y)

  • One and a half *years*?

  • a year and a half wow your amazing

  • I can't believe you only played for a year and a half. You nailed this piece! Congratz! You put a lot of emotion into this piece.

  • How Wings Are Attatched To The Backs Of Angels.

  • man this is good, except the 4:36 part. It really sounds off hahaha. But its a very good performance!

  • i play this by ear in a minor though

  • be careful not to punch notes- they seem a little harsh when you get excited, sometimes.

  • you played this after one and a half years of piano??? this is absolutely amazing. I'm playing this after eight years of learning.

  • what words cannot express..

  • thank you for playing, recording and sharing this - beatiflul!

  • Still waiting for the Crunk remix.

  • Does any one know what grade rcm this is?

  • @jcullengirl Grade 10 Royal Conservatory.

  • @SweetUnheardMelody It's Grade 10?! :)

  • @lambosuperleggera1 Yes, it certainly is, unless my syllabus is lying to me. That'd be a first...

    Why so shocked?

  • @SweetUnheardMelody Well don't throw your Syllabus out the window just yet, it's right! :) I was surprised because I've been practicing it since July, and all this time I thought it was "just" grade nine. ha Thanks!

  • @lambosuperleggera1 Teehee, "just" Grade Nine Royal Conservatory. :D

Lovely choice. It's such a beautiful piece...

  • @SweetUnheardMelody Perhaps "just" wasn't the right word...Romance was a pretty tricky piece :P

Thanks, I'm in love with the song! Hopefully I'll have my own recording of it up soon!

  • that made me feel feelings again :)))

  • I have heard this played with perhaps a more polished technique but your interpretation is superb, full of the feeling and intimacy Chopin meant this piece to convey.

Something about your touch is very special.

    Thank you.

  • so beautiful. Perfect.

  • Brilliant!

     Beautifully done!

  • I see beautiful pictures in my head when I listen to this piece.

  • beyond words but lets give it a try: one deep breath and I'm in love :) :) :) :) x

  • I have this song in mind when I think of a lad I have been loony over for years. :-p

  • The 7 people who disliked this song either, are deaf, or clicked the wrong button

  • Absolutely beautiful! Great sensitivity!

    Bravo!!

  • i love your take on this. very emotional, you tone on the piano is heaps nice =).

i really want to teach myself this to!

  • Lamentations of a Broken Heart - this should be the title of this piece

  • Lamentations of a Broken Heart - this should be the title of this peice

  • This piece re-inspired me to keep learning to play the piano. I absolutely love what you have done with it. After I learn his Prelude in E, I hope to learn this next. You have revived my desire to play the piano

  • It sounds beautiful! You are sooo talented! My favourite nocturne of all. Have you heard Paul von Schilawsky's version?

  • Lovely piece very well played!

  • Thumbs up if you got this from Frank Lundy! RIP

  • I like this

  • absolutely brilliant. the depth of the notes, you strike them almost perfectly. as if you've been playing all your life... great job!

  • So beautiful... I thank you, from the depths of my heart. ^^

  • If it was really you playing you have a really beautiful soul. Anyone who has a heart, let him hear it, he will surely fall in love.

  • Refrain at 4:15 is just fantastic!

  • Kompliziert Schön!

  • i think hes lying, 1 and a half years is impossible LOL.. pls be honest with us...

  • Just 1.5 years? Very good then! I've been playing for 1.5 years and i don't feel able to do it as well.

  • Absolutly beautiful song

  • you did a great job, i actually like the 'mistake' that you made. (it shows that you really like the music)

  • This song reminds me of Jon. So, I call it "Jon's song."

  • Gorgeous interpretation. Only note from me is that I feel the lower note in the octaves could be louder. I only say this because the upper note will be audible to the listener regardless due to the overtone series. Being heavier with the thumb may add some additional richness to the sound. Try it. Only a suggestion though. I love what you have done with it.

@sofiamusik Wow great ear! I had to listen to a it a couple times.

  • How long did you practice this song for? Are you in RCM? Did you skip levels? Only 1.5 Yr?! incredible. I don't doubt you playing this because I was obsessed with Waltz in E minor Posthumous from Chopin and I was only level 5 at the time and taught myself it in not too long! Pretty amazing what you can accomplish when your passionate about it!

  • Beautiful! I really like how you played this nocturne

  • wow, if you have only been playing for one and a half years, this is excellent accomplishment for such a short time!!

  • this its just to pretty for words, well played congratulations. playing in b flat minor must be hard with so many flats: b e a d g

  • @yvmp1 Thanks! Well, playing in b-flat minor is not as difficult as reading it, haha!

  • @beethovenof08 yeah, man this its really dificult, i am trying to play this but damn its hard, not because there are too many flats, but for the fact that i cant do all the half notes at the beggining with the acconpainment, and my teacher isnt the best one...

  • @yvmp1 That's Dbm.

  • @xXWeezerXx

Db Major is the major equivalent of Bb Minor

very good performance, astonishing, considering you have only played the piano for 1.5 years

  • @yvmp1 Bb minor is actually not THAT bad compared to some other keys... like Cb minor or anything C#.

  • @yvmp1 i've gotten so used to playing B flat minor haha! i've played 3 songs already in that key.

  • i love you chopin u make me fly in the sky

  • 1.5 years? Wow, that's hard to believe.

  • This is the norturne which I like the most.I've listened to it for times but ,I still find something I'm still missing everytime I try to experience it again.Classical music is the only thing in this planet, which could make me scream like a dumb^^Love it forever by all my heart,my soul and my desire.

You play this song very beautifully.Good job!

  • Not to sound ignorant or anything, but does anyone know the classic "funeral song" that they use in cartoons? usually played on a piano or organ

  • omg im playign this song for a competition and i wish i could sound this good!! 1:03- 1:10 is my hardest part haha

  • @aznt1x33 Really? what is hard for you about this passage?

  • I must ask if the scores at 4.36 is correct. Two of the notes sounds a little out to me.

I don´t mean to complain but I´m thinking about playing this peace and then I wan´t to learn it correct. I think you who played it did a great job!

  • @sofiamusik Ah, no... I made a mistake there! It was my most favorite part and I got a little too excited, haha! Would have recorded again but had spent all day recording. :)

  • Comment removed

  • @sofiamusik you should learn to spell

  • @sofiamusik , you are correct. There were a couple of wrong notes in the left hand just before 4:36, starting at 4:34.

  • @sofiamusik

You know what...the first time I heard this version played, I actually thought it was a deliberate note. The wrong note sounds like something Chopin would write in, and it sounds beautiful. I keep coming back to this version to hear the wrong note...isn't that kind of crazy???

  • wow. this is beautiful.

  • Is this really you playing?

  • @mglchono Haha! Yes, I assure you, this is really me playing :)

  • 2:18 sounds so much like a fantasy! That part sounds more modern than Chopin, though it is a very touching part.

  • @likkui Do you mean the interpretation sounds modern or the chordal progressions? Chopin was known for using unorthodox (at that time) chordal progressions, like V-IV, haha! Not sure that's what that is though. Thanks for your comment!

  • 1 and a half years? GENIUS

  • Великолепно!!! Потрясающе!!! Шедеврально!!!

  • :] I've been playing piano for ten years. It's a very good interpretation. It's amazing that you can play this well after only 1 1/2 years. I can tell from your playing you love the piano a lot. :] But I think you can use a bit more rubato. :] It'll make the piece sound more ... dreamy?

  • You'd only been playing for 1 1/2 years?! I've been playing for 10 years and I'm having trouble learned this piece! That's amazing! You played it very well. I'm using it to help me learn how to play it.

  • by the way, did you play on a digital piano? if so, what kind? i still can't get over how well this is played and how clear it sounds

  • @gekisen01 - Thanks! It is a Kawai digital... I don't remember the number, but I know it was a "concert performer" type. It had a floppy disc and a huge computer screen on it. Hope that's helpful.

  • this performance brings to mind the effortlessness at which chopin composed....or seeming ease, perhaps he struggled as well..

i am simply enthralled to hear such a recording

    douglas

  • @douglassmcann Wow, thanks! That is quite a compliment. My goal is always to perform a piece as the composer intended it to be played or would play it him/herself... or as close to it as possible. Glad you thought so about this performance!

  • 1:04

  • Probably my favourite nocturne. I absoloutley love the chord progression at 0:19 - 0:24, absoloutley stunning! He was a true genius, he really was.

  • Me too....sublime..... :)

  • Yeah, same here! Fantastic!

  • @losinggrip1993 My thoughts exactly.

  • Cant explain how much I love this piece. BEAUTIFUL rendition, I would never have believed you'd only been playing a year and a half!

  • Thanks a lot! :)

  • WAIT WHAT? only been playing a year and a half?!!?! unbelievable....

    well, a soul-felt interpretation regardless.

  • Beautifully played Allyson ....thanks so Much..Nice digs @ 2:10....Trez

  • ahhhhh

    amo a Chopin xD

  • That sounded really amazing.I thought it was a pro-pianist playing until I read the description..However I do have to pick on 0:10 [it sounded like it went a bit flat ] ; I know that that part is quite difficult. On the other hand 4:21 was very well done.

  • you are right, also on 0:43 but anyway, I always get goosebums when I hear this Song! great job!

  • Can you post your Beethoven's Tempest?

  • I am most impressed with your performance. Tempo, articulation, clarity and certainly in terms of pedal. It appears to me that you have a good understanding of the piece (although I just recently discovered it). Better than Rubinstein's, although slight improvement is possible in interpretation. By the way I'm not even an amateur so ignoring my comment would be wise.

Furthermore I enjoyed the sound of this piano. I would appreciate it if you would tell me more about it.

    Thanks.

  • I have to correct myself. I fully agree with the interpretation.

  • Wow. Thank you very much! Maybe I do have a real carrer in piano after all, ha ha! It's interesting about the piano though, it's actually a digital piano, a Kawai. It has a slot of rfloppy discs that you can record directly onto!

I appreciate your comment(s) very much!

  • Thanks for replying. The fact that this is a digital indeed interests/surprises me, although it does explain the quality of your recording.

I still think digital piano's can't stand up to acoustic ones in real time, but regarding to recordings you've proven me otherwise. Moreover, you fooled me completely.

Naturally all this doesn't affect my appreciation for the performance one bit.

    So, what model is it?

  • You're welcome for the reply. I must agree with you completely about how acoustics are better than digitals, but at the time I needed a recording for a competition and that was all I had (for free). I don't remember what model it was... it was at a piano store, not my personal piano, sorry.

  • Is ths the recording for the competition? Can you please mention what prize you got?

  • It was one of the first International PIano Competitions where I live (or near where I live) and they had anyone and everyone from all over the world audition by sending in CD's and chose only 15 (this was the junior division). So I got to compete on location, but didn't win anything. I played this and Beethoven's "Tempest" movement I. I have a certificate of participation though :)

  • I agree with you. This version is certainly better than Rubinstein's.

  • nice, you have a chopin video with a bach quote. how could it get any better?

  • 1 and a half years?!

i've been playing piano for about 10 years and i still find it difficult to play!

    good job! =)

  • for my taste a bit too fast. but except that very very nice playing :)

  • you played really well, did you seriously only learnt the piano for 1 and a half years?

  • I have played for 1 and a 1/2 years too and I can play it but it is hard to play some bits

  • But I like your version the best. I listen to it everyday 50 times after coming back from school.

  • Aww! That's so sweet!! I would never have imagined that someone would listen to my performances like that! The octaves were hard for me, especially since I have small hands, but the more I played it the easier it became. :)

  • i just played this at an audition and it's one of my first chopin pieces i played but still my favourite. your piano playing was really good.

  • just played this song at a recital. this is my favorite Chopin peice. he is my favorite composer! this is such a beautiful song. thanks for posting.

  • i am learning this piece now.

    beautiful. Chopin's works are amazing.

  • the poet of music.

    A true master.

    love it to no end

  • Wow! Well, thank you very much!

  • Excelent. Thanks! :-)

  • Well, you are very welcome! I am glad you enjoyed it! :)

  • absolutely beautiful!!! 2 thumbs up!!

  • Thanks! :)

  • Love the emotion you have on this playing..peaceful!

  • This is one of my favorite Chopin Nocturnes, and you played it superb! After only 1.5 years, this is just amazing!

  • This is my favorite, was so more when I learned it, that's why I had to learn it...I thought it was so beautiful! Thanks for your comment! I am glad you enjoyed it so! :)

  • beautiful, Simply beautiful. I am a huge fan of F. F. Chopin and you played his piece amazingly.

  • Great touch at the Key board, you are a talent.

  • Be happy ! cause you can play this piece!

  • Well, I'm sorry, but I can't believe that you can play this really difficult nocturne in this quality after an experience in playing the piano of only 1 1/2 years!

How old are you? Who is your teacher? How many hours did you practice per day? If this should really be true, your talent comes near to that of a genius!

But apart from that - really great job!

  • I was astounded too

  • Thanks so much! Wow...I had no idea this was that good! I should post more now that I have been playing 5 years!!!! :)

  • Thanks so much for your comment! I am glad you enjoyed! I will reply and answer your questions on your channel. :)

  • I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for your wonderful comments!!! I am glad you all enjoyed this so much!

    Allyson - beethovenof08

  • Excellent!

  • wonderful!

  • Magnificent playing. I have been learning for 57 years. I hope to be as good as you one day. Then I would feel a great sense of achievement.

  • amazing talent that you played at such quality after learning piano for only 1.5 year! I so enjoyed listening!

  • very beautiful interpretation! :)

  • Excellent piece and in high quality. Great job.

  • Very good! The execution is excellent.

  • Oh!pretty..

    thx!

  • beautiful music,it sounds he is miss his hoeland in a foreign country,no one can be better than his emotion! BRAVO!!!!~~~~~Jessica~~~~~~~~

  • This is one of my favourite nocturnes!

But all Chopin nocturnes are wonderful

  • Very nice ;-)

  • wonderful !!!!

  • Very beautifully played. Great Job!!!

  • Such a beautiful piece and you command it very well!

  • WOW!!! VERY expressive and wise beyond your years, and especially for your years of experience!! FANTASTIC! Heartfelt, and so TRUSTING in the music, and allowing the music to speak for itself! Perfect tempo, pulse, use of rubato......WOW! Chopin would be proud!! By the way, I am working on this piece too.....the octaves are a bit trying!

I commend your persistance! It paid off!
