I have loved this number first performed by Julie London in the film "The Girl Can't Help it" 1957?
Many artists have covered the number over the years, and most 'hack it' they just don't put the feeling into it and fiddle with the melody.
But I can say that your version Charlotte is on a par with the original, a superb rendition!! full of the emotion and feeling that this number requires. Loved it!! Thanks.
This is just beautiful; nice ensemble work; oh, wait. There's a pianist, and I hear a drummer. But I see only a guitarist? Wha? And it sure would be nice if Greig strummed with fingertips instead of a pick; in the chord sections you can hear the strumming louder than the chords. That really takes away from an otherwise tasteful and melodic bit of artistry. Any chance we could get the names of the phantom pianist and drummer?
Ella Fitzgerald does this song and it's here on YouTube. It's a live TV show so the sound quality isn't that great, but you can tell she really sings the song and has a very special singing manor like no one else. Julie did great, but Ella sings like she can feel each word.
Looking at the various interpretations on facebook, I think Mari Wilon's 1981 cover is the most soulful and haunting (although ideally I'd pair that interpretation with Ella Fitzgerald's voice) - that would have been amazing to hear.
thank you for your comment. Julie London does a fabulous version - the original I think. Do you know if Ella has a version? I would love to hear that but haven't seen it anywhere.
@charlotterosemusic Look it up. There are plenty of Ella Fitzgerald versions up on YouTube now. I think Dianna Krall's interpretation is good. It's got that sassy attitude to it. Too bad her voice range is not good enough for this song.
Charlotte is really good and so is Paul on the guitar!
I love their version. it is very soft and warm. I liked also Barbara Streisand in 1967 because she acted and made me understand better the meaning of the song. then there is Susan Boyle version: so powerful!
since I'm Italian: look up at Mina Mazzini version!!
Love this version, can't find any listings for Charlotte on iTunes though?
