@LovesToSpooge77 White is the traditional color of choice for Judo/Jiu-Jitsu gi's. The idea is that if the warrior fell in battle, they would have a suitable white burial kimono underneath. Judo included the blue gi for sporting competitions to more easily distinguish between two competitors (and it looked better on television). BJJ pretty much caught on on this tradition, so blue and white are the two most common colors for Jitz gi's....but you see all kind of crazy colors these days.
there are a lot of blue, purple and know the hell what color belts acting as instructor. Many Judo or classic JJ guys are bjj experts all of the sudden.
Thats the problem with popularity. So many kids watch MMA and want to learn that too. There is an oppurtinity to earn money for some half experts. Just like it happened to TKD after they made it olympic and Kung FU in the 70's throug Bruce Lee and Hong Kong Movies.
@y2taner to answer this question no. Because its the level of technique and experience that the black belt possesses i know a brown belt and a purple belt that can beat some black belts the only problem is that the purple belt and the brown belt aren't well enough experienced to have a black belt they are better in shape as the old black belt too and they have a different style and generation of jiu jitsu that comes with every generation of fighters as the sport evolves.
A black belt isnt the end of your martial arts journey.. its only the beggining. You can still always get better. Always get near perfect. cause perfection is impossible but.. you can still work torwards it.
@SuckMehDook ya. Like how you cant rate something as a ten (or 100) because youre saying that it cant get any better that that. but in no time, something better will arise, in reality.
Holy Crap! I used to train with Roy in Monterey at Seibukan Jujutsu and at Claudio Franca's BJJ in Santa Cruz! AWSOME job on the BJJ BB Roy! :-) Always knew you were a great martial artist!!!!!
I would highy recommend picking up Roy Dean's dvds. The instruction level is top notch. You can easily see that his instructor Roy Harris taught him well.
@emulare11 at least dude.. that is going 4-5 times a week.. otherwise getting a blackbelt can take as long as 15 years. on average I would say its anywhere from 9-12 years. unless your a physical freak like bj penn...
@blueingreentrain thats a bullshit figure,it would vary wildly between individuals and how you spent your training time. And also how you define expert.
10,000 hours doing the presise thing that one wanted to get proficient in. ie rolling competitively. If you add up teh hours Garcia put in it's something like 10,000 hours. its the same for concert musicians, its a skill thing.
@blueingreentrain theres no precise figure obviously, some physically gifted would achieve black belt in bjj in 5 years ,others 10 or more.Just rolling doesnt tend to cause much improvement.
@takidabossen roy dean bought no black belt,i can tell you that.hes done very well when he competed and it was all technique because he isnt a strong lad.
@takidabossen if he bought a black belt then how do you explain him being the 1st american to win @ the bjj mundials? they dont call him the "prodigy" for nothing
@TerribleOne718 lol! i never said that he was bad at bjj! bjj penn! is very good indeed as a bjj fighter, but he still bought a black belt along time ago now! but im noit saying he sucks! beacuse he is good but i don't like his personality!
@blueingreentrain 10,000 hours is extreme, and works out to approx. 5 years if you are training 40 hours a week. Actually if you train 3 times a week for 1.5hrs a session (4.5 hours a week which is what the average person gets at a local club) it will take about 9-10 years, which is the average. That's about 2000 hours.
@bushpilot99 I think most people never can make it to Black belt because of all the injuries, lack of discipline, family issues. That's why a real black belt is special.
To me, my Black Belt in Karate-do is a burden, then a joy. A Black Belt apprentice can't stop, can't be content with his or her results: he or she has to keep going all the life. And it would sound to you as rethoric, but - trust me - it's true: when you get it, you understand that there are lots of people better then you and that forces you to come back to the dojo and return and sweat blood.
I earned my brown belt in Karate when I was 12 so I'd imagine I'm black belt level by now I'm 23, but I dream of being a BJJ black belt as well one day
@uchideshi Wow Roy Dean does his own music ! Wow he is really multitalented, I always enjoyed the music that accompanies his videos never realized that he created it all.
@lolocaust15 no bj penn was brought up in a rich family and didnt have to work he trained in BJJ full time every day for hours on end.. not so much a freak of nature when u have that much time to train.. but he was still great no doubt.
@Khaos969 I think it obviously helps to have nothing to worry about but train, but still not everyone would be as good as BJ even with his financial advantage. He is more flexible than most and he has a killer instinct that you canot be taught. Some people just can't take the fatigue and pain of everyday training, but BJ can. Regardless of what people think of his personailty, he is very talented.
@kanguesso I cannot say who has better Jiu Jitsu. They have different styles, and on any given day one is better than the other. Some also think Marcelo Garcia to be the best. I guess its a personal thing. If you like your BJJ flowing then you will like a Garcia, crafty and tricky then a Bravo, technical then a Mai, and so on. What I respect is everyone who puts on a gi and takes the time to train regardless of how far they go.
@Jaketye I presume you're trolling because you mention Eddie Bravo amongst such names as Garcia and Maia who achieved so much more competitively and then say you respect everyone who puts on a GI which EB doesn't. let;s please just enjoy the beautiful pictures and music
@TheGraciefighter101 Mai and Garcia may have achieved more, but no one can deny Bravo's influence on BJJ. And many take Bravo's techniques back with them to their regular BJJ schools and use them with the Gi on.
@kanolie It's a matter of choice and preference in my opinion. Some think Roger, and some say Ronaldo Jacare given that he actually won a tittle in MMA. In my opinion, Best BJJ in competition, which is Roger's BJJ, does not always equal best BJJ in MMA much like Best NCAA wrestler does not necessarily translate to the best MMA wrestler. Case in point, GSP. He never wrestled in college or high school and by all accounts, he is the very best wrestler in MMA. It depends on what your preference is.
@lolocaust15 bj penn is someone who grew up in a judo family who had money who paid to have him trained by the best at a young age .. he has talent yes but he had the BEST help from a young age .. born into fighting.
I know nothing of BJJ but your video is wonderful, very interesting despite the lack of actual movement and the music is amazing. It's so captivating.
