I absolutely adore this song (“Please Come To Boston”) and have for years and years and years (literally since the very first time I heard it performed by the multi-talented Joan Baez herself during the 70s. Thank You so very much for posting it.
@The196249 You are right. There were a lot of songs from the heart in the 70's. Aside from the war, it was a decent decade overall.....Then came Reagan...
I live in the Rocky Mts. 8000 ft above sea level!. Beautiful 12 months of the year no what it gives you... and I love it here!! Don't want to be anywhere else!
I love this song, remember when it first came out. I was only about 28. Want to hear a joke on the right of this is then same song by David alen Coe, so, so terrible, someone out to take his fat ass out and shoot him, (twice) once in the mouth for ruining a beautiful song.
@usmarine1944 Yeah, this hit No. 5 on top 40. Dave was nominated for a Grammy for best male pop vocal for this but lost to Stevie Wonder. This is how to suit the singing to the lyric. Elton John was good at that too, always changing his voice in little ways for each song, e.g., his voice is different in Tiny Dancer, Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting, Bennie and the Jets, and Rocket Man. Delicate artistry.
love this song! I heard it today in the local garden center. came right home and looked this up. i remember just wishing sometimes to be in L.A. with him! lol!
... great song, but who the hell is the man from Tennessee? if you listen to the song, he almost sounds like a stalker of some celebrity and his girlfriend is trying to get him to quit stalking this person, lol. all in all, fantastic drinking song.... (hicup) it really is.
They don't make songs like this anymore...I guess many people find this song hard to sing as you have to really feel the song and experience the life to sing it well.
This song just touches the soul of me. It's the epitome of longing and loneliness with simple guitar, crack in his voice, ever distant echo like he's just out of reach on the phone.
The word pictures he paints are all inviting, but her refusals are touchstone to his drifter's life. Wish I'd written it. :)
I was a teenager the first tiem ever I heard this beautiful and unforgettable song, it bring me warms memories from my youth, Music and love song from those time expressed so much things witho a lot of feeling, Unfortunately people had lost the meaning of a simple things...I wish I could turn back time!!!
i am 13 and my dad and i get on youtube every friday and i get a few requests for him to play, this is always my first. we may fight but friday nights are kind of a new begining for us. Thank you dave loggins! :)
Other videos had more hits, but I liked this version the best!! Nice use of photos and fade ins and outs. But the title says, "Please Come Boston" - ouch.
@saveusrecycle why is life any more difficult than this? i know we tend to make it so, but it doesn't need to be. i mean, love is tough enough when everything lines up for us...to not realize it to it's fullest is insane. if there is someone somewhere else other than where you are, all that's keeping you from it is you. if you know where they are, get up, pack what you NEED, and go. Stop letting responsibilty to anything else stop you. you'll only wish you had later on.
In a 1974 radio countdown of the years top songs, the announcer(Robert W Morgan?),stated that Dave Loggins nailed the vocal for this track in one take,The producer did not think it could have done any better.Even in 2010,I would agree with the producer
to magicman20069: You hit the nail right on the head. I've performed this song for manys the year because I like the song so much, but the first thing I tell my audiences is that I do this song no justice, & for them to get ahold of a copy & listen to it with the cans on. It's truly incredible the way he croons this tune out from the heart. Nice call, friend.
I met him about twenty years ago in Tennessee. I was a Dj in a club he was one of the nicest guys you would want to meet. After I met him and talked a bit I was to discover just how prolific a writer he was. Salt of the Earth.God Bless himwhere ever he rests this evening.
Beautiful song and great video. Thanks very much to CobolScript for posting. I can't believe that this song has been around for almost 40 yrs. It certainly brings back a lot of memories upon hearing it.
I use to wake up during my young year of age 18 before going to my job and this song would be playing on the radio. I haven't heard this song in years. AND yes, I had a job to go to right after graduating from high school that spring in 1974 since I didn't go to college. My mom didn't play the laying around syndrome. NO college well find a job and that I did.
This is a nice song to curl up to with your wife on the back porch on a nice breezy clear night and gaze at the stars, bask in God's wonderful creation and be grateful for that beautiful lady that stuck with through thick and thin!
I was in the grocery store yesterday and they were playing this song over the PA system. I haven't heard this song for at least 20 years. What a nostalgic moment! Don't you just love moments like that? Great job on the video! Thanks!
My Daddy was from Tennessee. I've always been the number one fan of the man from Tennessee. I loved this song since I was born, This song reminds me of his smile. Beautiful song

Absoluetly beautiful.Very well done. This reminds me so much of my youth. I hear this and it's that Summer of '74 and I'm 14 again. Thanks for a fantastic memory.
I love Dave Loggins, I have loved this song since I was a little girl, it so incredibly beautiful, and this is the first time I saw this video, and it is just amazingly beautiful. Dave Loggins can write and sing some incredibly beautiful music, this song is just amazing!
It's good to see wonderful old music being preserved and passed down to new generations. Hopefully they will allow us to keep listening here!
