@rahowr more specifially: lots of construction is seasonal but historically a construction worker made 50-100k in 8 months and went on 4 months vacation. Now people are making 30-40k in 8 months and scrounging like beggars for temp work in the winter. In my union LOCAL alone theres about 300 people on the out of work list during a "boom" in the peak of the construction season. Construction growth my ass.
Nice video. I just got back from California. Coming out of Joshua Tree National Monument to Interstate 10 we saw an enormous wind farn in the canyon whre the winds are apparently strong. But we went through many other canyons and passes with no windmills. The Federal government needs to fund wind farms for localities. Jobs plus energy that is not foreign oil derived. Instead of firing 10,000 people, why not take a corporate pay cut? Those people make 30,000$ a year, in total 10,000 jobs means that cost the company 300,000,000$ The company makes over 10 billion PROFIT.
That is the best solution I can think of also, pay cuts. Demand is low. Gov is not going to fix demand. You can't give jobs to people and make more things that people don't need. It decreases the products value, so you need to pay your employees less or fire them. To me, gov AND biz has encouraged too much spending and we are paying for it now with too much supply. Imo, gov is trying to make it worse so that we will turn to it, allowing it to grow even bigger/power with it's "promises".

if you have 10,000 employes and you make 1 billion a year you should make 700 million. If you then get your profits cut in half you shouldn't fire those 10,000 people, the boss should take a 500 million$ cut. and only get 200 million. then if it dorps even lower, to the point where the owner can't live and the company can't make a profit employment should be cut.

Demand is based on how much people need or want. Companies produce to fill that demand. "Debt" has put the breaks on demand, many people can't afford things they might only want. Please understand the concept of production. When we work, we produce. When we buy, we encourage production. Government on the other hand, steals via taxes. They CAN'T create jobs, because they don't PRODUCE. What they do is take jobs from the private sector and redistribute them, leading to LESS jobs. Its a very simple concept and when you realize that government intervention is counter productive, Then I hope you put your faith in producers and not government.
I don't want our police to be competing or for profit. Although the pure libertarian would like to see this. Government rule should be to protect its own citizens from danger and from each other.

This has been the case for the past 3 decades. We have GDP growth because the FED lower the Funds rate to 0%. Eventually they'll run out of ammo, but they'll run through what they have left until the common folk finally understand.

Sounds more like the government recovery act than the economic recovery act. The economy is businesses and free markets, you know, services that people want, not government services imposed by force.
So I suppose you see these services as being "the economy." Such as the in the "Economic Recovery Act." Well, buddy, the only free market involved with any of those areas is when businesses get awarded contracts from their big brother-in-law. This is public sector spending where demand is generated by politicians and lobbyists, not consumers. The actually economy won't recover until this type of spending is reduced, or spent in a way that doesn't directly syphon the profits of the real economy.
I think government intervention has proven itself to be a good thing In the past. FDR created construction jobs, loaned money to small business's and loans for people who wanted to start businesses. This helped create jobs, which helped strengthen the economy. Now, lets look have Hoover, and Coolidge, they both had a laissez faire policy which turned out to partially get us in a depression, they did not help anyone get jobs which proved to hurt the economy horribly.

Well constructing the interstates help the economy not because of bunch of money was looted and tossed around, but because the movement of good for cheaper motivated more transactions. Similar, education also feeds back into the economy in a positive way, because more planning happens and less mistakes are made. However, directly pulling hundreds of billions from the value of the dollar, and from the profits of businesses does not help the economy if spent on most government bureaucracies.

Also, the problem with people keeping their jobs by accepting less money is that they will feel like everybody else in the company needs to make the sacrifice too. Because of the debt most people have gotten themselves into, they can't emotionally accept less pay and will irrationally get angry and desperate. It's the fault of themselves and co's through the culture of deceptive marketing and advertising.

No, people need to accept lower wages to get hired based on demand. Instead of firing 10,000 people, why not take a corporate pay cut? Those people make 30,000$ a year, in total 10,000 jobs means that cost the company 300,000,000$ The company makes over 10 billion PROFIT.

That is the best solution I can think of also, pay cuts. Demand is low. Gov is not going to fix demand. You can't give jobs to people and make more things that people don't need. It decreases the products value, so you need to pay your employees less or fire them. To me, gov AND biz has encouraged too much spending and we are paying for it now with too much supply. Imo, gov is trying to make it worse so that we will turn to it, allowing it to grow even bigger/power with it's "promises".

if you have 10,000 employes and you make 1 billion a year you should make 700 million. If you then get your profits cut in half you shouldn't fire those 10,000 people, the boss should take a 500 million$ cut. and only get 200 million. then if it dorps even lower, to the point where the owner can't live and the company can't make a profit employment should be cut.

I can say with almost total certainty that virtually no corporations exist that have a $1 Billion revenue and a net $700 Million in profits. At I think that's what you were trying to suggest. I can also guarantee you that no corporation exists nor has ever existed where the chief executive takes home 50% of total revenues as compensation. It sounds like you were just making numbers up...

Demand is based on how much people need or want. Companies produce to fill that demand. "Debt" has put the breaks on demand, many people can't afford things they might only want. I agree that people running big co's that supply many jobs should cut their pay so others can survive. The kicker: GOV thinks it's in charge, IT should cut it's own pay! Back off taxing everybody, THEY are making us poorer!!! It's mostly gov, not company ceo's. The list of taxation it huge, most don't notice.

The US economy is fundamentally structurally imbalanced. These problems have nothing to due with a lack of demand. The US consumer owes 130% of yearly income in debt. The Total private debt is $46 Trillion. Total public debt is $11 Trillion. The total of the US stands a app. 370% of GDP, which is near the all time peak which occurred at the end of WWII. These in addition to the Federal Reserve setting the price of credit to free are primarily responsible for our catastrophic imbalances.

But if people weren't in such debt, they could afford to purchase more so is it a mistake to say demand is down because of too much debt? I may have the def of "demand" a little off. Please understand the concept of production. When we work, we produce. When we buy, we encourage production. Government on the other hand, steals via taxes. They CAN'T create jobs, because they don't PRODUCE. What they do is take jobs from the private sector and redistribute them, leading to LESS jobs. Its a very simple concept and when you realize that government intervention is counter productive, Then I hope you put your faith in producers and not government.

First of all this puny 800 Billion USD stimulus (most of which hasn't been spent) is insignificant. Any economist who has any understanding of economics knows that fiscal policy in the US is a joke compared to the massive monetary cannon of the Federal Reserve. This has been the case for the past 3 decades. We have GDP growth because the FED lower the Funds rate to 0%. Eventually they'll run out of ammo, but they'll run through what they have left until the common folk finally understand.

Bush is responsible, but so is Clinton, Reagan, Nixon, every Democratic and Republican Congress for the past 40 years, and most importantly the Federal Reserve. It doesn't. We're not paying for any of this. The Chinese, Russians, Japanese, and now British are. The first three are sick of funding our phony consumption based economy, and the British are simply printing pounds to buy our dollars. None of this is sustainable. In just a few years interest owed on our debt will be more than a third of all expenses of the US gov.
The people are even more screwed, we have an unfathomable 46 Trillion of private debt. The average American owes 130% of yearly inc.

AND, Treasury needs to partner with states' taxing and treasury ops, and with commercial financial institutions to give average American wage-earners savings options that translate into further job creation.

My unemployment is actually a condition of the city I currently live in. Too many college kids around taking up part time positions, probably not putting in half the effort I'd give. But that's another story!

& pay interest on that loan.this week they sold 123 billion of our debt.could not sell it all so our federal reserve printed money to buy debt from ourselfs. this is called monitizing debt.They are printing money to pay our bills.this devalues the dollar & causes inflation or hyperinflation.

There aren't enough rich people left to tax without further collapsing the economy. The US economy is a paper tiger these days, supported more and more by the Federal Reserve leaning on the entire rest of the world from the leverage provided by the USD dollar being the world reserve currency. More and more nations are moving away from using the USD for exchange and even the UN announced the USD should cease to be the world reserve. Once this finally happens you'll see how bad things really are.

So I suppose you see these services as being "the economy." Such as the in the "Economic Recovery Act." Well, buddy, the only free market involved with any of those areas is when businesses get awarded contracts from their big brother-in-law. This is public sector spending where demand is generated by politicians and lobbyists, not consumers. The actually economy won't recover until this type of spending is reduced, or spent in a way that doesn't directly syphon the profits of the real economy.

I think government intervention has proven itself to be a good thing In the past. FDR created construction jobs, loaned money to small business's and loans for people who wanted to start businesses. This helped create jobs, which helped strengthen the economy. Now, lets look have Hoover, and Coolidge, they both had a laissez faire policy which turned out to partially get us in a depression, they did not help anyone get jobs which proved to hurt the economy horribly.

Well constructing the interstates help the economy not because of bunch of money was looted and tossed around, but because the movement of good for cheaper motivated more transactions. Similar, education also feeds back into the economy in a positive way, because more planning happens and less mistakes are made. However, directly pulling hundreds of billions from the value of the dollar, and from the profits of businesses does not help the economy if spent on most government bureaucracies.

I disagree. The World GDP alone is near 60 trillion (USD) the tip of the ice berg. It is conceivable that only a fraction of the World's wealth can be tracked accurately by anyone other than the owner of such wealth. What would be the motive of the super-wealthy to expose the true value of everything they have? Sure, there isn't 100T in USD circulating in any currency, but the value does exist and its likely many multiples higher. You couldnt buy Earth and everything in it for 100 trillion USD.

Where's the excitement? Job creation and 3.5% annual rate of growth in the GDP for the third quarter is good!
As you know, when the economy starts improving, the last thing to improve is unemployment. So, the more job creation Obama does now, the better.
