  • Quite a few "trainers" could use some tips from this video. To respect a horse means time, responsiveness, patience, and communication. No need for painful/annoying metal aids or harsh treatment with ropes and leather. Natural horsemanship is a gentle dance, a private conversation between horse and handler, a special time shared between friends.

  • @TerrahWiselove - thanks for your comment and happy new year!

  • @TerrahWiselove I think most people simply can't understand a horse's notion of time. Horses sleep 3-4h a day! they have about 16 hours to graze and 4 for social interaction, grooming, bathing, etc. In sumary, they have no notion of hurry to do anything besides running away from danger. They don't eat faster so a fellow worlf won't eat their food, they don't groom faster because they have to get to work at 9, none of that makes sence to them and we must repect that if we are to respect a horse.

  • @DJBelbe If only more people would apply this logic to horses! Actually, to a lot of situations. You also just described the life of an infant, too, even up to five years old, and every mother could benefit from this wisdom. We'd all be happier if we were more considerate of this understanding. What a great perspective! Thank you.

  • This place is so beautiful! Wish I could get my horse to like me!

  • awesme

  • @tara231298 thanks!

  • where do u live? i would love to own a place like that with a sea view and lush vegetation.

  • Beautiful! Thank you for posting this wonderful video :)

  • @FlyingWithHorsesUK - thanks for your comment!

  • I clicked "like", I subscribed AND SO love what you are doing!! I don't get to watch people work with their horses in real life very often, but I do notice a difference in behavior in your video. You remind me of an Australian facebook friend of mine that has horses, the love you both have for them. I'm slowly learning from her, and you are now adding to that. THANK YOU for making this video. Wonderfully done! :)

  • @whiteribbonman1 - thank you so much for your nice comment, it is always nice with feedback, knowing that the videos can inspire to a more gentle way to handle our fourlegged friends / stina

  • wow you do a really good job of connecting with them in a fun way. if i tried doing this with my horse he would trample me :( and he was never wild... keep up all your enthusiam its really a confident booster

  • @kaitlin7983 thanks for your comment

  • @kaitlin7983 thanks!

  • @kaitlin7983 it seems your horse has no notion of how small and weak a human is. Try to demand nothing and simply ask and be prepared to receive no for an answer. Simply try something else. Never use any kind of pressure but use a very sharp move like a flick of a rope, snap or a whip or shake of a large plastic when he invades your space beyond what you feel is safe and cpmfprtable. With time and patience he'll learn to trust and respect your boundaries if you respect his in return.

  • Great video

  • @judithannr thanks for your comment and lots of sun from the caribbean!

stina and the horses - richmond vale nature and hiking center

  • As for the comment about not seeing any training here, that person is the one who most needs caroline's method, I suspect. Her horses would probably be very grateful, Stina's response was very gracious.

  • @thyslop1 excactly, that is the point of the video, how to prepare a horse for training.

like preparing your child for first school day, like preschool before school - thanks for your comment and greeting from the caribbean / stina

  • SHE IS TEACHING SAME THING THEY LEARN IN A ROUND PEN BUT MUCH CALMER AND MAN WISH I LIVED THERE!!

  • @Iceteacher1 - thanks!

  • Connecting with your horse is a major factor, without trust their is no way you will be able to train effectively...

  • Respond to this video... true!

  • awesome!

  • My rides start with taking the saddle out to the pasture. I tack who ever comes up and volunteers. I tack them up without halter which is the last thing on. My philosophy is I wouldn't enjoy the ride on a horse that didn't want to be ridden that day. They seem to take turns and I only get as many horses as the number of saddles I bring. But everyone usually says, "hello."

  • @eponack - thanks for your comment, sound really good what you are doing! Have a nice weekend.

  • I would have you to my place to teach me and my mare in a heartbeat if we lived in close proximenity. What I see in your video is exactly what I want for me and my young mare. She was just weaned of her 9 month old filly (gradual & naturally) and now we are getting started. The mare has had no previous experience except handling I have done in the few months I have owned her. She's so good. We just have not connected yet.

  • @MorganJServices - thanks for your comment and greeting from the caribbean / stina

  • this is a cool video and all, but what exactly is she teaching the prospect? it looks more like two paddock buddies playing around.

  • @ColleenSays - first we train connection, communication, togetherness, we are having fun and the horse is interested to learn, - then when the horse is ready and want you can start training for example dressage or jumping or what you and your horse are going to do together that both parts really enjoy.

have a nice weekend! Stina and the horses

  • this is real horsemanship ....

  • Who is training whom? Seems to me the human is LEARNING the body language of the horse. Including the recognition of "when they are ready (to teach)" Listen up - I don't hear the bucking segment as play, but as "get the rope off me - I hear you well enough without"

Any element of training is to improve the horse's posture (self carriage). Start with your (human) own.

  • @rockinghorsefrm - thank you for your comment, yes i am learning alot from my horses, also body languege and posture, i learn as much as the mare in this video.

have a nice weekend -/ stina and the horses

  • thatt isn't a halter

  • Very welll done!, brilliantly put together, and a lovely group of horses. x

  • Good video! I think play is as important as the training. Horses can feel your attitude the same way as they sense fear. Having fun with them and getting that connection is why I wanted a horse in the first place. Horses are smarter than many give them credit for and training is a 2 way street. They are as individual as people. : )

  • @mikewatson49 thanks!

  • i absolutely LOVE this video. i'm currently training 4-6 (depending on if i can train the other 2 or not), 2 of which are eqyptian arabian stallions, and they are always so stiff and refusing to go when their friends are in the pasture having their own good time. it's amusing to see and human and horse pair having so much fun while training. hopefully i can do the same thing with the horses i'm training :D

  • @bobjuniordancer - thanks!

  • Hempfling inspiration ?

    Good results anyway.

  • @petrodvoretz inspired by carolyn resnick

  • Love her technique so fun, relaxed and so engaged herself, wow, my kind of training for my horses personality

  • @danij64 thank you for your comment and many greetings from the caribbean!

  • I came upon this video by mistake. I dont know anything about horse training, and have only been close to a horse one time in my life, but whenever I see someone in tune with these marvelous creatures, it makes me cry. Your video made me cry it was so beautiful. Great job connecting on so many levels with a creature!

  • @LeeLeeB100 - hi lee, thank you so much for your nice comment, i am happy to hear you like the videos / stina

  • Is that Puerto Rico? Looked like El Yunque in the background...

Enjoyed watching the video. I like to think my horse enjoys being with me too.

  • @sstadlerwi - hi hi we are in st.vincent and the grenadines in the eastern caribbean!

  • Beautiful video. Very nicely handled horses. I can't add anything else. Good work. :o)

  • @InsideCreativity thank you for your comment, we are using the carolyn resnick method of horse training

  • Humans are really the ones who need to be trained. The horses already know how to do everything. WE must learn how to communicate with them.

  • @Lwhite1962 Yes, that is absolutely right!

  • I would follow "her" wherever she went too.....lol...!! It really takes a special individual to touch a horse.....with your eyes.....your brain.....your heart and your fingers.......so few really have that.....it's a gift.....it's just there....anyone now days can learn how to teach a horse if they want to.....but "the gift" is so much more......only a few will no what I'm talking about......it's almost like reading ones mind.....it's just there...!!!

  • @jhhwingnut - it is a really special feeling, energizing for sure

  • This is a beautiful video! I was really pleased to be able to say 'yes' to most of those questions!

  • @KnightHawke01 wonderful!

  • 2:09 what a cuties! it's funny to see them all running

  • @withinevanescencefan yeah we are having a really good time

  • I'd like to say that your video is beautiful... Shows the love that your ponies have for you and their interest in training... I watched last night and today after feeding took a moment extra to just sit with them, I tried to run around with them, but they would prefer to eat grass.. I'm envious and hope that I can work up to only a half of the connection you have with your horses...

  • @pshakenbake - keep going, you can get the connection, get carolyn resnick materials and join one of her online courses!

And to people that spend time on You Tube only to bag out the videos - get a life!

  • @pshakenbake OH HOW I AGREE WITH YOU on your last sentence!! Unfortunately their life IS "bagging" on other people's videos. I view a video and OH how it irritates me to see SO many people being rude/profane on someone else's video! This video, for me, is SO wonderful!!

  • @whiteribbonman1 - thanks for your comment and lots of sun from the caribbean!

stina and the horses - richmond vale nature and hiking center

  • How lucky for you to be able to have the time to spend with your horses. They will benefit from your love and time that you spend with them.

  • Bunch of hog wash IMO. "Does your horse WANT to be trained?" Come on Really?

  • @OZandANNA - hi anna, yes they do, you can watch some more of my videos and judge for yourself. think of your dog, or the neighbours if you dont have one, most dogs enjoy the company of humans and we use alot of positive enforcement,

  • @OZandANNA I agree. But on the upside i think this video would be alot better if the writing and stuff wasnt there. I think its somewhat interesting other than that.

  • J'adore ce que vous faites! vous n'avez pas de livres ou films avec traductions française

  • @piratedu53 merci!

  • why yes! yes! this woman can show us the way! dosent EVERYONE want a lanky muscleless horse that can (oh my gosh) be led by a rope and CHASE you?! BAHAHAHAHA

  • I would love to see how you work personally, i think its great how you train, and I respect people greatly when they know how to train a horse properly. Keep up the great work and I will send this to all my horsey friends ^^

  • @anolenina hi - well come over for the Magic Connection Clinic...!!

  • With every one of your videos I am more deeply moved by your work, and your heart and even more deeply inspired

    I cannot thank you enough

  • @lauralbriar Thanks!

  • @lauralbriar - great! come on over to st.vincent, finally i am setting up a clinic here!

  • @stinahumana

Would LOVE to come to a clinic in St. Vincent - however it could not be this year as I've used all my holidays. Can you post info as to when you would have clinic? If not a clinic, perhaps a visit sometime.....?

Your work and Carolyn Resnick's Waterhole rituals are amazing and wonderful. I see so much of a difference with our horses using these methods, especially with Wandosa, our Lipizzaner. She was a very "aloof" horse when she came and trusted little. So different now!

  • i love this!!!!...is there a book on something like this already? that you might be able to recommend

  • Where is this palce are you looking for volontary work I am interested?

  • thank you! lets spread the word of new inspiration on how to be with horses. we do not need the horse for entertainment anymore, lets just be friends. Carolyn can show us the way, she is reaching to our hearts!

  • This is a truly amazing video, it seems like you have known your horse for a thousand years! because that special bond between you is so strong.

  • hi fram,

thank you very much for your comment /stina

  • Oh thanks! That's sweet! The video you attached to perfectly shows what NOT to do when training a horse. Makes me so frusterated that those people cannot experience the deep connection that I feel, so much more than a worthless piece of silk, I feel a real heart.

  • Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! I'm working on the waterhole rituals with my instructor. :) Keep it up!

  • hi hi, yeah keep going, it is really a wonderful way to start a horse, using the rituals. Good Luck

    Kind regards Stina

  • Wow, you are doing exactly what Ive always dreamed of doing, much respect. Hopefully the rest of the world will start to wake up soon. big up

  • hi tiffersen, thank you for your comment. People are waking up all over, it is so inspiring. I woke up too...

  • i love the rope, even though a head collar is more natural than a bridle, the horse still does not have much choice but to listen really. i suppose with the rope, the horse has to be willing to work with you. i love natural horsemanship and i love to ride bareback and in a headcollar but im a bit of a nervous rider so i feel safer riding with a saddle.

i would love to be able to train my horses like that but i dont know where to start, any advice?? thanks, great video, really inspiring

  • hi niki, start to study horsemanship, find a horsemanship trainer where you live, and start to treat your yours like you want to be treated yourself.

  • Thanks, will do!

  • Thank you for that video. People say that I need a round pen and I don't think I do. I have an injury that affects my back so I can not run, but I can walk okay most of the time. I try to learn from them how best to train them. The horses are young, about a year old, and one can be saddled and the other one finally let me set it on her back. I enjoy working with them and I notice they want me to train them. It is a strange bond between my horses and me.

  • @enchantedfarmstead good challeng you have there! young horses are special

  • Simple and pure ideas that come from the heart - so that everybody could find them. There are definitely no excuses any more to treat horses badly...! Wonderful - thank you so much that you care!

  • thank you so much :)

  • how long have it took you to train your horse that nad how old is your if you dont mind me asking???

  • hi horse lover, i did the waterhole rituals for a year when this video was made, this mare is 4 years when filmed and her foal 1.5 years

  • Beautiful video with good reminders for successful horse handling!

  • wonderful video!!! you make this look so easy and very fun and relaxing. thank you.

  • hi dkk, thanks for your comment, well sometimes it is easy, but you need to have the foundation, the connection

    Br Stina

  • Thanks for the info on the equipment you use. (rope) Love watching the body language too.

  • I'm definitely going to have to check out Carolyn Resnick's methods. Thanks for posting your videos. What a beautiful place and such a lovely connection with your horses. Very inspirational for how to live life and be with your horses.

  • hi meg, thanks for your comment, its very beautiful here

  • Wonderful video.. nice points to consider.

  • Simply beautiful... thank you

    Lyse

  • I love Carolyn Resnicks Waterhole Ritual. yep practice this stuff everyday just actually started my filly today.(= I have now done a year and a half of liberty training.YEAH!!!!! We started with Saying Hello, Leading from the back, and Reunification process, she was awesome!(= Ur horses are really fun loving creatures and love youre doggie.*_*

  • This brought a tear to my eye and a lump in my throat! what a lovely video.

This has given me courage to continue working with my 'difficult' horse. I am doing alot of ground work with her at the moment. Thankyou. xx

  • @minkymoo22 i am very happy to hear that, it is a fantastic journey, ad me on facebook, i have links to blogposts that can give more inspiration

my name is stina herberg, just ad me

  • Lovely, soft, sensitive, intelligent, thank you.

As for the fencing comment - I have found horses that are calm are sensible with fences.

  • Hi again - whatever method you are using - it is working and you and the horses are having fun!

Love to see your dog joining in on the fun!

  • you may not call that parelli but it really is parelli

  • @horsecrazy987 oh... this is very different from parelli, here you work with the free horse most of the time

  • Love the bond with your horses - ever consider a program to advance your savvy - such as Parelli? I am cautious about the fencing.

  • hi hi grammakarla,

    thanks for your comment,

i do not do parelli, it is not my way

good luck to you with your methods

    br stina

  • @grammakarla - i cannot advance my horse training with parelli, it is not my way, then you for your comment

  • It is looking really good!!! Love the view.. ;) Love the horses, you are doing a great!! job..

  • Beautiful to watch. Nice to see a great bond.

  • Beautiful connection and wonderful inspiration. Thank you for visiting me, so I could find you.

  • You have a beautiful connection with your horses. They have a great life with you. Your dog is cute, too!

  • thanks for your comment, yes my dog is very helpful, he teaches the horses to ignore dogs... ha ha

  • Nice Video!! Your horses really look like they are having fun! :D

  • yepp and me too!
