@seperatesoul The RHCP version is More Rock and Roll influenced.. So if your taste is rock and roll then obviously you will like it better. But its Not Better. NOTHING BEATS FUNK!!!!!! And i like the RHCP version.
Can't help but smile for this one. My niece was singing this in the car years ago, and she was singin' "ride the rooster of love". I asked her what the heck was she sayin' and she actually thought that was the the right lyrics. Ride the rooster...........of love, ride the rooster, hu hu hu hu hu. We still sing it like that. The Love Rooster!
Naw,man. That's Billy Beck. Superb falsetto voice, keyboardist and composer. The Ohio Players really took off after they grabbed Billy. And "Diamond" Jimmy Williams is still an excellent drummer, also great vocal range. Very slick in the pocket.
I'm a player from Ohio and I go up and down a roller coaster all night, every night. And those loops free the butterflies in my tummy. How yummy. Why do you fill me up, Butter Cup, just to let me down?
Why didn't The Ohio Players have greater staying power in their careers? It's like they had success in The mid-70's, and then disappeared. Please tell me.
Michael Jackson.....Grand Funk Railroad.....Tower of Power....Cool and The Gang....Earth Wind and Fire.....the reasons go on and on. The 70s were on fire with great bands, some stuck, some sank. But funk all that, the beat lives the funk on.....
@kja427 SlyHobbit makes some good points....we were gloriously awash with talented bands and creativity in the 70s. I remember FUNK sooooo well....it was about FUN and MOVING to the music. Nothing was quite like funk music for filling a dancefloor. But things started to change in the late 70s and disco took over...kinda squeezed funk out. It wasn't just the Ohio Players....a LOT of funk artists slid out then. If disco hadn't come along, I maintain the 80s would have had a LOT better music!!
@benjf99 You might be referring to the urban legend about someone dying during the recording of the song -- that's been debunked on Snopes.com. Just search for "Love Rollercoaster" (for some reason I cannot post the direct link).
@blaknose1000 Try ANYTHING by "Sly and the Family Stone" (IMO that band pioneered funk, and influenced lots of bands), "Play That Funky Music" (Wild Cherry), "Brick House" (Comodores), "Skin Tight" (Ohio Players), lots of stuff by Earth Wind & Fire, "Strawberry Letter 23"(Brothers Johnson), "Everytime I Turn Around"(LTD), etc. etc. Check out the videos offered on the right of each song's page....lots of good stuff there. Now you're on the right track...BRING OUT THE FUNK!!!!! :-)
@blaknose1000 Hey...no problem...my pleasure. Not sure why everyone on here always calls me "man" LOL. I'm actually female. Anyway...enjoy the funk. I think it's a pretty good list of tunes to start with. I LOVE funk...always have.
Classic Ohio Players. Man ...bring back bands and actual musicians. Tired of computer created music as well as 1 singer and 10 backup dancers on a stage (that`s entertainment???).
@whayes8084 you dont know who Wolfman Jack was? you must be really young....Wolfman Jack is one of the greatest and important figures in the history of radio, and music televison. You should learn about him and his impact on the radio, and music televison of today. .....and you're correct, he had a cool voice.
Wow!! This monster took me back to Northeast Intermediate in Midland, Michigan!! My 7th grade dance and great times back in '75!! Holy Shit, TIME-WARP!! Great then and even greater now!! Wanna go back to a simpler time and never leave it!!
Listened to wolfman jack late on AM radio, later I had a bad stereo am/fm 8track,Lp And Nothing sounded like when he screamed ( Yeah I thought some white girl got stabbed Too) THAT was THE SONG, and don't get me started on Earth Wind and Fire Reason, was a date song if she wasn't your date and you got to dance with some fine thing she would want to date with that song!
Man, I agree totally with the first top comment! The musical era of the Ohio Players brought undoubted talent and skill to concerts... musical instruments and all. Now, like viewing uncensored musical porn.
Music and entertainment like this is gone forever. Baaadass bands like this has forever become a thing of the past. Look at Sugarfoot with his double neck guitar.
