This is in the appendices of Return of the King extended edition, I believe. Some day, Peter and the studios will probably include this in an ultimate set as deleted scenes.

Oh my gosh. I would pay so much for this stuff! Come on, New Line - this is easy money! And Legolas looks so great with his hair just down, no warrior braids, a lot more casual! Why did they burn it??? :O

@Alycla I agree, it's was an awful idea and I'm glad they chose to rewrite the whole thing. However, I'd be curious to see the scenes they filmed - not as part of the movie, but as separate deleted scenes in the extras. Especially the scene with Arwen and Galadriel together in Lórien. (She has quite pretty dress in that scene too. ;D)

@lovesick15 well, basic info, but Gimli and Legolas stayed in Middle Earth until Aragorn's death, then, due to their friendship, Legolas built a ship that carried them to The Grey Havens. Gimli was the only Dwarf allowed to do that.
i know alot of people thought the ending was too long, but damn, i wish it was longer, i wanned to see what happened to all of them. the lord of the rings can't be too long. wish this was in the movie.

@lotrhpnmask Appendix A, III, p. 360 : A colony was settled in Ithilien by the Elves of Mirkwood and former residents of Elven kingdoms in the north, welcomed there by Legolas, and "it became once again the fairest country in all the westlands",
and Appendix B : After the fall of Sauron, Legolas brought elves from Greenwood, and they dwelt in Ithilien, and once again it became the fairest country in all the westlands.
@Alycla it is not written like that in any book, legolas guided the north mirkwood elvs to lthilien and the guided elvs lived there. then, it became the faiest realm in the lands.
@Alycla the book does not state that, so theree is no words that state legolas moved there himself, so you can not say he lived there! so case closed, no proven written or other that legolas lived there!!
@Alycla i think toy need help. i have seen that more then one time, more like more then 100 times. the i can see clearly the part where legolas see's it but no word ANYWHERE in the book states he moved there. THE e.o.m.e. group has proven he had never moved there!!!
@lotrhpnmask haha, like ive said before, the appendixes. ok?
but seriously if you think that little information of him moving to ithilien ruins your entire imaginative world of arda then feel free to ignore it. this thing called imagination... it can change EVERYTHING for you personaly ^^ great isnt it? but it cant change written fact. however you can choose to ignore it.
oh, it's killing me that these scenes were not included
i don't get people who criticize PJ for not being able to transform the books into a movie language, i think he did a tremendously good job
it's true that the books have a different style but the message is the same and i really like the visual aspect of the movies, even though i picture Middle-earth rather differently which is the best thing about books, plenty of room left for your imagination
Legolas in Ithilien. Oh god, he's just TOO pretty. Love the shirt and the hair and the new sword. (Although that forest looks suspiciously like Lorien, haha.)
Such a shame they scrapped all that footage, I'd LOVE to see Legolas walking around in Ithillien as a 'normal' elf. Just those few seconds were absolutly beautiful!
is this on the Return of the King LE? i'd like to see the rest of what he's saying...
WHY ISN'T THIS IN THE MOVIE!? one thing i always liked about LotR was the relationship that Gimli and Legolas have. they start out being enmies... then they become friends and travel Middle-Earth together. i loved that.
Wow! I would have killed to have this in the movie. it's like we got endings for everybody but those two, if you know the books then you know what happend if you didn't read them then your left wondering..that was awesome thank you!
I was 7 when i readed this book and i quickly liked Legolas. I always looked for what happend to him and Gimli. Then i saw the movie and made me want to know even more. Than i saw the extended edition and the special features and saw this part. I hated PJ for not letting it in the movie! I just can't wait for The Hobbit. Hope Legolas in in there!
yh i no their in the book but THE HOBBIT is about bilbo's adventures and i dont think legolas was in his adventures gandalf was elrond was and i think isildur was.
Gandalf and Bilbo are the cnetral characters of the Hobbit. Gollum plays an important but small role, Thranduil (LG's father) is also important and they MIGHT bring Legolas in as a cameo, as he would have been old enough at the time to attend his father's courtroom and to fight in the whopper of a battle that comes at the end ^^
Isnt it Ithilien? he becomes the leader of the Elves in Ithilien to heal the forest until they eventually sail or fade. Or maybe when he gets to Valinor. he sails in the end with Gimli...hmmm they should have put a little more of that in the extras. :) wouldve settled the confusion.
i think this is actually in Fangorn- remember he and Gimli had that bet about going to Fangorn and the glittering caves. Gimli's clearly in the caves, so it would make sense that Legolas is in Fangorn.
No they didnt. They couldnt just pop 4 seconds of legos in the scene just randomly. They would have to get gimli and some other guys in there too to let it be sort of sequence and they had to score music to it. To much work
He kinda looks like Glorfindel in BFME2 and especially the cover when he's slashing. Except Legolas' hair is blond and Glorfindel's is silver which matches his awesome silver armor.
"We had to reduce it down a lot to what it was. It was actually quite a lot longer at one stage. There were huge amounts of people who were in doubt. I mean, what happened to Gimli and what happened to Legolas? There were scenes shot of those people. We sort of..."
oh yeah i remember reading that after aragorn's death, legolas built a ship and sailed with gimli to the west. that was the one thing i looked forward to seeing in rotk, but sadly it didn't show since the movie's more focused on frodo and the ring.
Hopefully any appearances by LOTR characters unmentioned in the book will be kept to essentially cameos, and even those only if credible: Arwen with Elrond in Rivendell, Legolas with Thranduil in Mirkwood, and *maybe* Gimli showing up with Dain at the Battle of Five Armies. But anything else would be a stretch.
MassCityGent, I agree with you. But I hink Legolas being with his father at the Battle of Five Armies would make *perfect* sense. Of course such a scene was not in the book (I am a canon person, believe me) since JRR created young Thranduilion after he wrote the Hobbit. I mean, Thranduil was with Oropher at Last Alliance, where Oropher fell and Thranduil managed to save other Greenwood Elves. So Thranduil's son would follow his father into battle as well. Just my idea.
Legolas with his hair down...OH MY GOD!! He's so..beautiful. I wished this scene was in the movie..imagine how the whole female population in the theater would react..thehee..
really?? i dont remeber that part! just got dont with the last book and it said he traveled with Gimli then left for the Grey Havens i am soo confused
He created a colony in Ithilien, not called Ithilien. Ithilien had been called that for thousands of years: Ithilien and Anorien were the two central parts of Gondor, on the east and west banks of the Anduin. Ithilien, like Isildur, was named for the Moon, and first ruled by him from Minas Ithil, the Tower of the Moon, eventually seized by the Witch-King and renamed Minas Morgul, Tower of Sorcery. Likewise with the Sun: Anorien, ruled by Anarion from Minas Anor, later Minas Tirith.
MassCityGent, I do agree, but in Appendix A, it says: "Legolas also brought south Elves out of Greenwood (Mirkwood had already been re-named after the fall of Sauron again)and they dwelt in Ithilien, and it became once again the fairest country in all the westlands." Legolas' colony in the southern part of Ithilien is still called Ithilien, there is no other name, and he would be adressed as "Legolas Thranduilion, Prince of Eryn Lasgalen, Lord of Ithilien". Ithilien does not change its name.
By the Valar, people, we should really, indeed, ask PJ for a special-director's-final-double-or-triple-extended-edition of the movies *drools all over her laptop* There are still soooo many good scenes hidden in PJs secret LotR movie basket........and this one, well, should be in Ithilien. The reason is simple: If it were Fangorn, he would wear his travel gear and warrior braids to make travelling easier. This seems to be normal braidless royal regalia for the Lord of Ithilien *droooool*.......
Ithilien. He's in Ithilien. After the War of the Ring he took Elves from Mirkwood and and led them to Ithilien, becoming their Prince.
At least from the minute I first saw this clip I took it fro granted that that's what this scene is all about. After all it was supposed to tell what happened to the rest of the characters after the war. Why to show him in Mirkwood or Fangorn? And this forest doesn't even look much like those woods.
GoddessOfLove09, I know he's a prince of Mirkwood, but he wasn't the ruler there - his daddy Thranduil was ;) In Ithilien he was the prince, as the ruler of the Elven community, not just a son of the king.
I think this is Legolas in Fangorn. Gimli is pretty obviously in the Glittering Caves of Aglarond, and as the second part of those two's post-war pact was to visit Aglarond and Fangorn together, it makes sense that that's Legolas in Fangorn. And we ought to remember that Treebeard's Ent-house (extended dvds) looked quite a lot like the forest seen in the clip.
And as for what happened to Legolas and Gimli, they left for Valinor together after Aragorn died in the year 1541. :)
Most are here for Legolas ^_^

jazzypony 2 years ago
I was 7 when i readed this book and i quickly liked Legolas. I always looked for what happend to him and Gimli. Then i saw the movie and made me want to know even more. Than i saw the extended edition and the special features and saw this part. I hated PJ for not letting it in the movie! I just can't wait for The Hobbit. Hope Legolas in in there!
gabrielle141414 2 years ago

Cavedude105 2 years ago
Isn'r Legolas son of the Mirkwood King? And the Mirkwood elves are most definitely in The Hobbit (The book, anyway).
TheMetalPenguin 2 years ago
yh i no their in the book but THE HOBBIT is about bilbo's adventures and i dont think legolas was in his adventures gandalf was elrond was and i think isildur was.
Cavedude105 2 years ago
Isildur was dead by the time of The Hobbit. Long dead. There's no way he could show up in it.
belad0nna 2 years ago
@TheMetalPenguin yes
GoddessOfLove09 1 year ago
Gandalf and Bilbo are the cnetral characters of the Hobbit. Gollum plays an important but small role, Thranduil (LG's father) is also important and they MIGHT bring Legolas in as a cameo, as he would have been old enough at the time to attend his father's courtroom and to fight in the whopper of a battle that comes at the end ^^
Kimberleg 2 years ago
Isnt it Ithilien? he becomes the leader of the Elves in Ithilien to heal the forest until they eventually sail or fade. Or maybe when he gets to Valinor. he sails in the end with Gimli...hmmm they should have put a little more of that in the extras. :) wouldve settled the confusion.
Dimaranien 3 years ago
i think this is actually in Fangorn- remember he and Gimli had that bet about going to Fangorn and the glittering caves. Gimli's clearly in the caves, so it would make sense that Legolas is in Fangorn.
But it's pretty either way. :)
electricwaldorf 3 years ago
it is not in fangorn, but in the forest of lorien...you can see that cause of the falling golden leaves and the dress of legolas
smithbuster 3 years ago
it's the wrong type of trees to be Lorien. i believe it actually IS Ithilien...
but i could be wrong. the trees don't look like the mallron...
padfootrocksmysocks 2 years ago
this is possible...he was made a sentinel of ithilien (or something similar) by king elessar in the fourth age
..i think..?
jamesrocks4eva 2 years ago
How does he do that?? All he has to do is look around and he has me breathing fast....They really needed to keep that clip of Orlando in the movie.
OBsessivegirl13 3 years ago 8
No they didnt. They couldnt just pop 4 seconds of legos in the scene just randomly. They would have to get gimli and some other guys in there too to let it be sort of sequence and they had to score music to it. To much work
OrginalKork 2 years ago
He kinda looks like Glorfindel in BFME2 and especially the cover when he's slashing. Except Legolas' hair is blond and Glorfindel's is silver which matches his awesome silver armor.

"We had to reduce it down a lot to what it was. It was actually quite a lot longer at one stage. There were huge amounts of people who were in doubt. I mean, what happened to Gimli and what happened to Legolas? There were scenes shot of those people. We sort of..."

cazzycurse666 3 years ago 2
oh yeah i remember reading that after aragorn's death, legolas built a ship and sailed with gimli to the west. that was the one thing i looked forward to seeing in rotk, but sadly it didn't show since the movie's more focused on frodo and the ring.
aggieangel07 3 years ago 2
dude, where'd you find this clip I want to see the whole thing!
novus0verum 3 years ago
theyre beautiful!
bloopideebloop 3 years ago
Legolas with his hair down, wow, makes him look even more beautiful.
If they are going to make The Hobbit, and Orlando will be in it...I do hope that there's going to be scenes with him like in this clip....
Marreez 3 years ago 9
Hopefully any appearances by LOTR characters unmentioned in the book will be kept to essentially cameos, and even those only if credible: Arwen with Elrond in Rivendell, Legolas with Thranduil in Mirkwood, and *maybe* Gimli showing up with Dain at the Battle of Five Armies. But anything else would be a stretch.
MassCityGent 3 years ago
MassCityGent, I agree with you. But I hink Legolas being with his father at the Battle of Five Armies would make *perfect* sense. Of course such a scene was not in the book (I am a canon person, believe me) since JRR created young Thranduilion after he wrote the Hobbit. I mean, Thranduil was with Oropher at Last Alliance, where Oropher fell and Thranduil managed to save other Greenwood Elves. So Thranduil's son would follow his father into battle as well. Just my idea.
PeppyPower 3 years ago 2
I wish they used this! We never see Legolas's hair down! And just to see him in that magnificent tunic again!
orlandogirl213 3 years ago 4
Wow, he's pretty.
AlixPelletier 3 years ago 5
Legolas with his hair down...OH MY GOD!! He's so..beautiful. I wished this scene was in the movie..imagine how the whole female population in the theater would react..thehee..
icyice89 3 years ago 5
Where did you find this?? Is it on the Extended ROTK DVD??
fireboltcrazed 3 years ago
I never seen this scene in the extended DVD. Not in the movie and not in the extra. I think this is bad. I want this scene in the movie!
Legolas looks really cool. I know that there is an other scene with Aragorn they have cut and is not on the DVD.
000666000 3 years ago
why do you call it "Legolas Footage in Ithilien" i think it is in Mirkwood and not Ithilien, because Mirkwood is his home
FreakyGremlinDK 3 years ago
Because at the end of the book, he creates an Elven colony near Gondor, called Ithilien.
Manders1953 3 years ago
really?? i dont remeber that part! just got dont with the last book and it said he traveled with Gimli then left for the Grey Havens i am soo confused
Legolasluver100 3 years ago
It's in the Appendix, it says what happens to the fellowship after the war.
peeveford 3 years ago
They didnt go to grey havens..there was no ships or people.
Legolas maked boat, and Gimli coemd with to Valinor.
TheRoopeKonna 3 years ago
ohh that makes sence or however u spell it
Legolasluver100 3 years ago
He created a colony in Ithilien, not called Ithilien. Ithilien had been called that for thousands of years: Ithilien and Anorien were the two central parts of Gondor, on the east and west banks of the Anduin. Ithilien, like Isildur, was named for the Moon, and first ruled by him from Minas Ithil, the Tower of the Moon, eventually seized by the Witch-King and renamed Minas Morgul, Tower of Sorcery. Likewise with the Sun: Anorien, ruled by Anarion from Minas Anor, later Minas Tirith.
MassCityGent 3 years ago
MassCityGent, I do agree, but in Appendix A, it says: "Legolas also brought south Elves out of Greenwood (Mirkwood had already been re-named after the fall of Sauron again)and they dwelt in Ithilien, and it became once again the fairest country in all the westlands." Legolas' colony in the southern part of Ithilien is still called Ithilien, there is no other name, and he would be adressed as "Legolas Thranduilion, Prince of Eryn Lasgalen, Lord of Ithilien". Ithilien does not change its name.
PeppyPower 3 years ago
in the book legolas brenged some elves to ithilien, toghether with the gondorians they populated that area of the kingdom of gondor
ursucarnivor 3 years ago
i know, but if this is Ithilien, were is the gondorians then? people don't know it is ithilien if they can't see it

what is this under in the thrid one
and what is the disc 3 or 4?
GoddessOfLove09 3 years ago
By the Valar, people, we should really, indeed, ask PJ for a special-director's-final-double-or-triple-extended-edition of the movies *drools all over her laptop* There are still soooo many good scenes hidden in PJs secret LotR movie basket........and this one, well, should be in Ithilien. The reason is simple: If it were Fangorn, he would wear his travel gear and warrior braids to make travelling easier. This seems to be normal braidless royal regalia for the Lord of Ithilien *droooool*.......
PeppyPower 3 years ago 2
I wish they'd kept this in! We've never seen Leggy's hair free from those braids and this looks perfect!
orlandogirl213 3 years ago 7
I think it is the fangorn!
He promised gimli to visit the Glittering Caves of Aglarond with him!
And then Gimli go to the Fangorn with Legolas!
melhilwen20 3 years ago
Feanorielle 3 years ago
he is already a prince...it says so in the extened edition of the two towers
GoddessOfLove09 3 years ago
GoddessOfLove09, I know he's a prince of Mirkwood, but he wasn't the ruler there - his daddy Thranduil was ;) In Ithilien he was the prince, as the ruler of the Elven community, not just a son of the king.
Feanorielle 3 years ago
I think this is Legolas in Fangorn. Gimli is pretty obviously in the Glittering Caves of Aglarond, and as the second part of those two's post-war pact was to visit Aglarond and Fangorn together, it makes sense that that's Legolas in Fangorn. And we ought to remember that Treebeard's Ent-house (extended dvds) looked quite a lot like the forest seen in the clip.
And as for what happened to Legolas and Gimli, they left for Valinor together after Aragorn died in the year 1541. :)
ThirteenthxSpirit 3 years ago
yes, but didnt Gimli first helped dwarf to retake moria?
1993truls 3 years ago
I don't think so. As far as I can remember, that was a dwarf named Durin - some descendent of the Durin I.
ThirteenthxSpirit 3 years ago
I think Gimli helped to rebuild Minas Tirith, him and some of his buddies built a new gate made from mythril :)
