some times i wonder if people pick a side before decding with reason. i support peter schiff 100%, and this is one of his better speeches. it's just a thing i note of all crowds, not only crowds that generally disagree with my general philosophy.
btw, you don't have to invest in your own country to be an american. plus, any money invest outside the US must inevitably come back in the exact same amount. all outsourcing arguments focus on the money leaving without mentioning it MUST come back.
@PALINSMITH i know, they're very common. some people seem hard-wired against free-markets. it's also a cultural thing,
but also, some people, if they don't really know, by default just choose government under the illusion they control it. this is just annoying.
lately i've been advocating a kind of lower level govt powers, so these people can influence and make the people around them as socialist as they like and see what happens, and i'll just go move to the nearest free-market society :)
@PALINSMITH btw i'm from Australia, but have followed shiff and RP closely. hope it turns out well. .. i just have to warn though, it seems the tea-party has been prey to the oldest propaganda trick... that is, it's been demonised from within, and from the outside. it started with a lot of Ron Paul supporters, but big government big military Republicans have moved on it i think. it's sad to see :/
HAHA that guy said peter schiff is a bad american because he doesnt invest in the united states, Peter Schiff was FORCED to invest outside of the united states because government made US investments unprofitable!
And what do ya know! Peter Schiff tried to run for office to change that very fact!!!!
Im guessing the guy screaming at him does not even realize most all his material possessions are made in a foreign country. Educating the masses is key.
Oh man, Schiff owned that heckler. How often do you see candidates throw an impromptu speech on the street? Rarely. They usually have them in places packed with like minded indivduals, where they don't have to do something hard like debate detractors. Schiff has the brass ones we need in Washington.
@Racefiend77 Obama couldn't do an impromptu like this anywhere. It's too bad the voters of CT didn't get a chance to vote for him. Chris Dodd is a national embarrasment.
Schiff could have really shat on that protectionist heckler (who if he is reading this, should be ashamed of himself for being so uncivilised and disrupting Schiff in his non-teleprompter speech) by saying that thanks to the abolition of the gold standard, it's hard as SHIT to invest abroad because eg our socialist UK inflates its currency so creditors can't make good returns if contracting in foreign currency. Goldstandard allows refection of money's actual worth, in coin form, NOT a distortion
Just to clarify that comment I made, the reason the protectionist oik who was criticising Schiff should be ashamed of himself is because it's Austrian economists like Schiff who understand that America's export trouble occurs because of exchange rates that float on how much money the Fed prints (trying to increase exports through currency manipulation reduces trade links and eventually exports) and China's mercantile schemes-the gold standard is the TRUE protector from that.

Comparing peoples health to the price of TV's is laughable. The reason healthcare costs doesn't go DOWN and DOWN because of government... it's because of competition! You don't need a Tv.... you do need healthcare. I like his plan to give us money instead of health insurance, but I also want a government plan.. I can CHOOSE to be in. In the same spirit he wants foreign insurance providers to be allowed to provide to Americans. They don't even want a Government participant only plan.
The reason I think health care is going up is malpractice insurance. A lot of doctors I talk to admit it runs anywhere between 30 to 40 percent of costs.
Ya still just a claim.. prove it. You throw it out there to distract from the fact that we overpay for healthcare in this country, and we have multiple developed nations with higher life expectancies to get data from. I doubt the real reason for healthcare going up would influence you either way. You were stamped republican at birth like most of you. No logic got you there.
You base your argument on the belief that market forces would not act on health care because we need it. Look... when you have a fire and your house burns down, thats pretty damn catastrophic, but people get fire insurance.
When you get cancer thats pretty catastrophic, but people get health insurance.
On the other hand, when your house plumbing gets clogged, usually, you pay for that yourself. Same should be when you sprain your ankle or something.
bigbird - first off i am not stamped a republican. i voted for obama. i wish i didn't. second what is your background? what makes you so qualified to know about healthcare??
#1 I am a healthcare provider #2. hours of research into the topic. Sorry to just label you, but most people have made up their mind on this issue based on no more then 4-5 paragraphs of information. Given to them by politicians with their own motives ( that goes for both sides repub and dem). So even if someone disagree with me I would rather they make a decision based on more then that small amount of info. Many college lecture free podcasts exist on the subject and written studies
Do you know why health insurance, and healthcare is more expensive in the USA? Let me guess capitalism right? Health insurance is government controlled on state level, and the over utilization of health insurance causes higher prices. Great Britain rations healthcare because the state can't afford it, however in the USA, the symptom is higher prices. You don't have no clue what you are talking about. Customers who buy everything with insurance, don't shop around for cheaper prices. Logic!!!
You oversimplify the issue. IF it's so simple and obvious. What information source can you give to backup that Glaringly obvious logical conclusion. Fact is there are other countries doing it better and for cheaper. Why would you oppose a participant only plan? No money goes to the program other then what is volunteered. You would still see opposition to that still even though, because you can't complete with no profit motive. Maybe someone will make a non for profit that's popular.
Duh, because I told you, they ration care. Canada is allowing private insurance when before it was illegal, and the healthcare there is unsustainable as well. Germany too. The problem with insurance is that there is no normal price mechanism, because nobody shops for cheaper prices, and government isn't as efficient bargainer of prices compared to a entire market full of actors who participate. What information source do you have? Elective surgeries as not covered by insurance, it's cheaper.
If everybody used insurance for food, I gurantee you, food prices would be much more expensive than today, because with insurance as a form of payment, and "not real" insurance by definition, nobody would shop around for cheaper prices. It inflates prices. Food isn't covered by insurance, everybody shops for cheaper prices in food. Over-utilization of insurance jacks up prices for everything when insurance is about a hedge against a highly expensive future event, not just a method of payment.
Well BigBird, you also need food and clothing, so why don't we have government pay for that too? Let's get poor, starving people off the streets by having a government option, right?
I live in Britain and I can tell you when the government gets involved in healthcare, private business is crushed - it's impossible to compete against the government since it out-costs the competition.
The notion of a "government option" is deceptive, since it inevitably leads to government-only healthcare.
So why not have a whole grocery store of capitalism. We can sign up for which Police provider we want, and fire service. Sign up who will deliver our mail, and we can hire our own individual members of government to represent us? DO you think a health plan would cover ambulances or should I get a separate plan to cover just that service?
The one guy yelling "You bet on China..." is representative of the hapless arguments you constantly hear from the far left. They have no valid basis for argument against what Mr. Schiff and others have been saying, so the only alternative is to engage in a smear or character attack.
the fr left includes alan greyson (kind of a badass), the far left wants to end the fed (see Nader) it may help the libertarian cause to join the far left. Political philosophies are not on a two dimenional plane. Rather they form a circle with facism and communism meeting on one side, and libertarianism and the Nader's of the world meeting on the other side. Democrates and repulicans represent the fascists. This is the opposite view. It is shared by both the far right and the far left.
I live in Florida (Orlando actually) and Grayson is not a badass. The true "liberal" in the Milton Friedman or Adam Scott sense of the word was as close to a libertarian as you can get. Your statement about Nader is true - he would like to see some of the massive gov't involvement relieved - however he would counteract it with even further social restriction (and that is no where near the true liberal). I also agree with your statement that political philosophy is not a clear 2 side division.
@ncerione I'm sure your pissed about healthcare and Grayson. I think the cost of care will go up under this bill as well. If we are lucky we will break even.
I am just curious if you are going to vote for him or not in a year...
Personally I am more about a left and right libertarian coalition, than a strictly libertarian ideology. A government that truly represents the people, can work well....Just my opinion.
We in the liberty movement need to do everything we can to get Schiff in front of a huge crowd. I never realized he was so awesome on the stump until this video. We need to get him money and events where he can continue to speak like this, very impressed with his speech here...
so you say your a health care provider and your name is bigbird?? wow i feel assured going to see you.
what do you mean your a health care provider? what kind of health care do you provide? you are so full of it.
i think you are pathetic. for someone who says they do hours of research on it you still haven't made any clear or decisive arguments. can you make a point?@Bigbird5553

No that is Mike Norman's spat against Peter. That douce was trying to get dirt on him and plagurized Mike Norman's words to make him look bad. This set Peter off, but it made him look awesome! Very passionate man and if you follow him he is extremely patriotic as was his dad.
Its all relative. Think of it this way...How much government intervention was going on in the 1980's in China? A ton. In 1992 to 1995, a ton. Then China's government is very much out of the way compared to waht it used to be. When you have 1 billion people that are that hungry to get away from the Confusionism philosophy they had in the past, and make revenue, its going to happen.
@DPBnor Additionally, the US companies are moving there because there are many people who are willing to work for cheap. China's per capita GDP is only 3500 dollars. There is 1 billion people there. It is the cheap labor capital of the world. If 1 billion people are opened to somewhat free markets you can bet the economy is going to explode.
Yep, you are right. They regulate alright, taking the money away from us and giving it to the bankers & others unscrupulous people. Taking it from small farmers to subsidize the industrial huge farms that destroy the environment and poison us with their chemicals.Taking it from all of us to maintain a war which makes the bankers & military rich while the country goes bankrupted. We need more government involvement, for just in case you still have few pennies left in your pockets.
It is difficult to get people that don't understand economics to understand that a huge part of healthcare's ever-increasing costs is because of the "someone else is paying thus people don't care about the costs thus there is no price competition" reasoning. I meet very few people (less than 1%) that understand economics at all. I do meet Keynesians (even if they don't realize that's what they are) that do spout off about how debt is good and whatnot. Must be a talking point they heard on tv.
Schiff needs a big loud amplifier in his next public speaking opportunity. Look after your voice and throat, Schiff, you need very bit of it to fight those ignorant peoples.
If a man like Peter Schiff were President, we'd see an explosion of prosperity unlike any before. We're so foolish to allow idiots to ream us out. Peter Schiff ROCKS!
You (I say that because I'm Canadian) will see an explosion of prosperity after a large recession/depression and Schiff knows that. It's necessary. America needs to get over their hangover. What you're witnessing right now is nothing compared to what you need to experience. Wash all those government mistakes out. than I'll come live there because we're even more social up here... it's scary. The problem is nobody is long term thinkers. Most care to much about today and not at all about tomorrow.
the real health care solution is that everyone stops relying on lying doctors and the industry of sickness and takes full control of their health...eat local food or better grow your own food exercise dont drink fluoridated water distress your self by unloading all the burdens that society told you you needed....believe me you did't
Actually, I thought it was a good point that the guy brought out.
I'm a big fan of Peter's and I agree with a lot of what he says
I think peter's response to that guys statement was spot on! Why should the American people invest in this country when the government is ripping off it's people and over-taxing them? The system is currently killing the independent businessman , anyone that has tried to run and own their own business can relate to that!. Peter's response was honest and true.
Heckling doesn't seem to work on constitutional libertarian types because they always have a smart and logical response that totally destroys thoughtless remarks like the heckler in this video, thus it backfires and makes the speaker, like Schiff, look that much better.
I have a question for Peter. I keep hearing about the inflation in zimbabwe. I heard that their collapsed currency was replaced with the Rand and the U.S. dollar. What is the impact on the dollar with this move.
next time a heckler says that Mr Schiff doesn't invest in the US he can say that he has US mining stocks because right now Gold and Silver besides comodities are the only real money here right now here in the US
this system that we have today was originally called Mercantilism. This was how the Britt's played ball. We fought a revolution to shrug off this corrupt Gov./Big Business partnership and consequently became the most prosperous in the world. What we have now is Hamilton's wet dream and Jefferson's worst nightmare!
WE MUST END THE FED, RETURN SOUND MONEY & BANKING, AND DRASTICALLY SCALE BACK GOVERNMENT
this IS our only hope to have a prosperous future......oh and Ron Paul 2012
If you just joined the discussion, let me summarize trinomialtree:
The US government is so corrupt with politicians who are lobbied by powerful corporations, that there's no way that someone can come there and raise awareness about the abysmal state of the economy.
He calls the people here naive and dumb, yet based on his language and writing abilities, he comes off as some young shallow buck.
If cries for actual change won't be heard now, they will be when actual shit hits the mother fan.
Peter, please address the issue of the SUPREME COURT in one of your videos. WHERE IS THE SUPREME COURT IN ALL THIS??? All these unconsitutional laws are being passed. What happened to checks and balances? Why does no one bring these up in front of the court? - Randy
As A General Surgeon I can tell you that 30-40% of the cost I generate for the system is a result of defensive medicine, until tort reform is addressed health care costs will never come down.
In a recent interview he suggested that we may need to invade Iran. Furthermore he suggested that he supported going after WMD's in Iraq. The fact that he's even playing with these ideas raises a red flag.
What interview is that where he said he would be in favor of invading Iran? I believe what his stance is, is that the US should be proactive in preventing Iran from receiving nuclear weapons. Now thats not the same is a full military invasion.
Also, where did he say he supported going after WMD's in Iran. That might of been when our gov't was still finding out if A)Iraq had WMD's and B)If there was a connection between Iraq and Osama Bin Laden?
He said that he would never invade Iran. If Iran was trying to make nuclear weapons he would "blow the place up" (factory, not the entire Iran) because he doesn't believes that Iran is capable of guarding those weapons(from terrorists).
He stated if our intelligence suggested that Iraq had WMD's he would be for invading. Therefore from that premise I think it's a fair assumption say Peter would have supported the Iraq invasion initially because our intelligence did in fact claim they did carry WMD's.
Bombing Iran is an invasion. Iran shouldn't even be considered a legitimate threat to this nation. They hate us because we're occupiers. His statements reek of Neocon stench when it comes to foreign policy.
I do agree with you that his foreign policy statements are sketchy.
I remember a while ago when I heard that; he wasn't very definitive as to what he would do. I don't think he said that he would be for invading; I think he said that it would be a possibility, but not a definite.
I think when he gets more education on foreign policy he'll be better. We'll see as the primary gets closer.
Also, I want to make it clear that I still support Peter. I love Austrian economics and would still support him. His comments on the Middle East flat out sketchy.
That heckler has a rather stupid attitude. Peter's duty as an investment advisor is to help his clients to *make money*. If that's easier to do by investing overseas, that's not Peter's fault.
haha that one guy is so nationalist. Very old, and bad thinking. Why doesn't he ask himself why Peter is running for USA?! Why is Peter trying to help the USA?! That guy needs to use his brain.
You have no answers? Your comment doesn't enlighten anyone. All you are doing is trolling and making yourself sound stupid. I've watched Peter since Ron Paul's run in 2007-2008. The guy is running because there was a grassroots group who got a lot of support trying to get him to run. He knows that he can help change this country for the better by running for office (along with lots of people who will do the same, from the Campaign For Liberty.)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
why should i enlighten a peasant like you?
if you have watched ron paul and you still don't know how ineffective he is, then you are really stupid. thats actually the major enlightenment here -- that there are so many stupid people in CT and more generally the US who believe that lightweights like peter schiff and ron paul can actually get anything done.
Where do idiots like you come from? Ron Paul has actually been very effective in Congress. What do you base this stupid comment on?
Aren't there some videos about pool around here? You might actually have something to contribute there. You're just wasting peoples time here with your ignorant posts.
effective at what? whining? he is nothing but a whiner who couldn't even get a nomination from his own party - he came in dead last even in his own party.
just like peter schiff is dead last now in the run for senate.
so you are aligned with whiners and losers. that explains a lot about your reply.
Yeah, only Obama can bring about change with his arsenal of well thought out economic policies.
The truth is, that they can get things done. The problem is that, as you said, people are too dumb to elect officials that have a sound agenda because they get lost in its sense. It's alot easier to say "I'll change things" and that will appease to anyone.
the fact is, we control the senate and the congress with our lobbyists and campaign contributions. we have key personnel within the government to ensure that policies we require to be passed, are passed - and that they are always at the top of the agenda.
you really think some small time windbag is going to be able to change our system and stop us or our sister complexes (military-industrial, pharma-healthcare-insurance etc.) from pursuing our agendas? don't make me laugh.
have you heard of the audit the fed bill? seems pretty effective to me. btw, what do you know about america? your not american. go away and take care of your own country..
@trinomialtree Maybe you should make an actual argument instead of obliquely implying that Schiff's motives are impure. Read Schiff's book "Crash Proof" in which he predicts in detail the collapse of the US economy, published in '07, and some of which was written in '06. His book is precisely why I became a fan of his. He was so sure a collapse was coming he published a book about it, whereas all the Keynsian economists didn't have a clue, stockbroker or no stockbroker.
firstly, where did you get your $2billion figure from? is this the $amount of funds he has under management at this point in time?
being an honest businessman means 0. you think anyone in power in gov gives a hoot how honest you are? you must pretty delusional if you think so. you think all of the power complexes are made up of honest businessmen? haha. no, they were created to influence the government for advantaged policies to feed into their particular profit models.
not quite understanding what your saying, power complexes? it seems like your an anti capitalist, you think all businesses and businessmen are evil greedy slave owners. you go too far. capitalism isnt the problem, government colluding with a few corrupt corporations is the problem. its called corporatism, american is a corpocracy. by election honest free market people like schiff, we're trying to get rid of the corrupt dishonest politicians who are the cause of this all.
I have complete faith in Peter Schiff. I disagree with him on one social issue. I think I could debate him and bring him over to my side on that issue. I think he is a great man and America needs more of him.
@flukemate Abortion. I take the Ron Paul stance on it.
Science has told us new unique life is created when 23 chromosomes from both parents combine to create a new genetic code. New life.
The constitution guarantees we have a right to life. I feel yes people have a right to your body but fetuses are not your body. Ron Paul takes this view as well.
With that said I still support Peter. I have found if you want someone in Washington that agrees with you 100% run yourself.
@Daniel44125 - Does that mean you disagree with abortion, not matter what point in time the pregnancy is?
Ron Paul and Peter Schiff are the same on abortion. They both believe its a state issue and believe in getting the government out. Ron Paul is just personally pro-life. Its not like he supports making an amendment in the constitution where no person can have an abortion.
to me life starts when there are brainwaves. otherwise its just another part of a womens body. in any case its irrelevant to the federal government because its not a federal matter, its a state matter. why get the feds involved? they handle federal matters only. they handle things at the state level, not the individual level. thats for the states.
Why would u amend it-So your saying every abortion that takes place is against the constitution?
You say that u support it being banned on a state level but what does that mean? U think it should be left up to the states to decide and that if you were a governor, you'd be in favor of abortion or do you mean that there should be a federal law banning all abortions?
If your against abortions at any time, what about if a women gets raped? What if having the baby kills the women. Still in favor?
@flukemate There is a little pill called the morning after pill. If a women is raped she could receive one along with a rape kit.
Its extremely rare that carrying a child will cause a mother to die. Most deaths during pregnancy are due to child birth itself. That rarely if at all happens in the US since cesarean section is used. If there is ever a legitimate case where a mother would die, that should be decided by the mother and doctor.
The reason I disagree with you that the right to life is not the same life that starts when you said as science says it starts w/ regards to the chromosomes is that a fetus is unique in that providing the right to life of a fetus impinges on the rights of someone else aka the mother which is an externality.
Our fundamental constitutional rights have no externalities to them and thats the main premise for me being pro-choice.
There is no "right" to kill an unborn child. Never has been. Child may "impinge" on mother's "right" not to be pregnant, but we don't let the mother kill a "born" child because it "impinges" on her "right" not to be bothered with dependent.
Also, wrt the morning after pill, what if the women realizes shes pregnant a month after the rape occurs? Im not too familiar with how exactly an morning after pill works but I dont think it would work in that case.
The fact that you can admit that there are instances where an abortion is justified, no matter how rare the case maybe shaws a flaw in ur fundamental belief that the right to life of a fetus is the same as the right to life of a born human.
I don't think is a flawed argument. Its called a compromise. I honestly think its the mothers decision in life threatening cases. Since she has a life as well. If two people were stranded in the middle of the ocean hanging to some wreckage that only supported one of them. I believe that they both have justification in fighting for their own life by pushing one of them off.
Morning after pill forces a period thus keeping the lady from getting pregnant.
@flukemate Maybe one day science will advance to the point where a women can have a fetus or child removed and implanted in a willing mother. Maybe even grown in an artificial wound then later adopted.
That heckler was really informed about some of Schiff's positions and life. He knew he was renting? Only someone who watches his video blogs would know that. I doubt a heckler would be watching random Schiff vids on Youtube so maybe he was a plant? Whatever he is, he was definitely fed talking points against Schiff.
It has begun...who do you think sent him? Simmons? McMahon? RNC? t
Even though China is more capitalistic, Schiff would be in the dungeon in 5 seconds if he talked like this over there...thats why if we can restart free capitalism here we would be unstoppable because freedom/capitalism is a one/two pucnch thats unbeatable,,,
if people knew how much better richer happier and more efficient we used to be they would drop all this socialist crap in a heartbeat. we used to rule the world economically. everyone else was socialist or communist cesspool. even now, china treats its people like slaves. devalues their currency to oblivion to keep the exports going. they cant keep that up. we would totally own them if given the chance. set us free and we can get it all back.
hong kong is like a mini version of the US, the industrial base is completely gone and the economy is dominated by the financial sector. huge wealth gap which is polarizing further by the day. the only good thing going for HK is access to China.
Peter reminds me of the late Sir James Goldsmith who launched the UK referendum party in 97' Goldsmith was a tycoon who could see straight through EU corruption and fought for free market principles, That man in the crowd should be ashamed of himself who is he to heckle Peter,,

Peter Schiff is a very smart guy and often prescient: However, If what he says is true, that the heatlh care crisis is just another crisis wittingly created by the govt.
What is he going to do, or how is he going to change that by being elected?
I cant take him seriously. Beyons some financial thoughts. He needs to learn what infaltion is also with his 5k gold predictions.
I like how he pointed out how he pays a lot of taxes. Good point. It amazes me at how ignorant some people can be. If there are two places to invest money and a man favors one over the other because he believes it's a better investment, what's wrong with that? He should lose money for himself and his clients to make himself seem more patriotic? I think that heckler is just mad he doesnt have the smarts Schiff does. Upset he doesnt have money to invest. Maybe he lost it in an American company. :P
Are the Yale students so hopelessly corrupted by their socialist professors that they don't show up in large numbers for Peter Schiff? Go down to Yale, you can win a good debate.
I can't believe someone would actually think just because you have money invested in another country's companies that makes you unAmerican. Seems to me like just another baseless attack being used because the person can't debate on a philisophical or intelligent level.
Why does he have to have lots of money invested in America to be an American? If he believes his wealth is better invested somewhere else then who is that guy to complain? It's not his money. If he wants to invest money in American companies, then by all means, he can do so, but he has no right to tell another man what to do with his money.

BigBird -
The reason I think health care is going up is malpractice insurance. A lot of doctors I talk to admit it runs anywhere between 30 to 40 percent of costs.
I am voting for Schiff
undregroundfreedom 2 years ago
Ya still just a claim.. prove it. You throw it out there to distract from the fact that we overpay for healthcare in this country, and we have multiple developed nations with higher life expectancies to get data from. I doubt the real reason for healthcare going up would influence you either way. You were stamped republican at birth like most of you. No logic got you there.
Bigbird5553 2 years ago
You base your argument on the belief that market forces would not act on health care because we need it. Look... when you have a fire and your house burns down, thats pretty damn catastrophic, but people get fire insurance.
When you get cancer thats pretty catastrophic, but people get health insurance.
On the other hand, when your house plumbing gets clogged, usually, you pay for that yourself. Same should be when you sprain your ankle or something.
There logic, doesn't so crazy anymore.
GeminiK 2 years ago
bigbird - first off i am not stamped a republican. i voted for obama. i wish i didn't. second what is your background? what makes you so qualified to know about healthcare??
@Bigbird5553
undregroundfreedom 2 years ago
#1 I am a healthcare provider #2. hours of research into the topic. Sorry to just label you, but most people have made up their mind on this issue based on no more then 4-5 paragraphs of information. Given to them by politicians with their own motives ( that goes for both sides repub and dem). So even if someone disagree with me I would rather they make a decision based on more then that small amount of info. Many college lecture free podcasts exist on the subject and written studies
Bigbird5553 2 years ago
Do you know why health insurance, and healthcare is more expensive in the USA? Let me guess capitalism right? Health insurance is government controlled on state level, and the over utilization of health insurance causes higher prices. Great Britain rations healthcare because the state can't afford it, however in the USA, the symptom is higher prices. You don't have no clue what you are talking about. Customers who buy everything with insurance, don't shop around for cheaper prices. Logic!!!
PontiffMystic 2 years ago 3
You oversimplify the issue. IF it's so simple and obvious. What information source can you give to backup that Glaringly obvious logical conclusion. Fact is there are other countries doing it better and for cheaper. Why would you oppose a participant only plan? No money goes to the program other then what is volunteered. You would still see opposition to that still even though, because you can't complete with no profit motive. Maybe someone will make a non for profit that's popular.
Bigbird5553 2 years ago
Duh, because I told you, they ration care. Canada is allowing private insurance when before it was illegal, and the healthcare there is unsustainable as well. Germany too. The problem with insurance is that there is no normal price mechanism, because nobody shops for cheaper prices, and government isn't as efficient bargainer of prices compared to a entire market full of actors who participate. What information source do you have? Elective surgeries as not covered by insurance, it's cheaper.
PontiffMystic 2 years ago
If everybody used insurance for food, I gurantee you, food prices would be much more expensive than today, because with insurance as a form of payment, and "not real" insurance by definition, nobody would shop around for cheaper prices. It inflates prices. Food isn't covered by insurance, everybody shops for cheaper prices in food. Over-utilization of insurance jacks up prices for everything when insurance is about a hedge against a highly expensive future event, not just a method of payment.
PontiffMystic 2 years ago
Well BigBird, you also need food and clothing, so why don't we have government pay for that too? Let's get poor, starving people off the streets by having a government option, right?
I live in Britain and I can tell you when the government gets involved in healthcare, private business is crushed - it's impossible to compete against the government since it out-costs the competition.
The notion of a "government option" is deceptive, since it inevitably leads to government-only healthcare.
Bezwaar123 2 years ago
So why not have a whole grocery store of capitalism. We can sign up for which Police provider we want, and fire service. Sign up who will deliver our mail, and we can hire our own individual members of government to represent us? DO you think a health plan would cover ambulances or should I get a separate plan to cover just that service?
Bigbird5553 2 years ago
The one guy yelling "You bet on China..." is representative of the hapless arguments you constantly hear from the far left. They have no valid basis for argument against what Mr. Schiff and others have been saying, so the only alternative is to engage in a smear or character attack.
Schiff shut him up pretty fast though.
ncerione 2 years ago 2
the fr left includes alan greyson (kind of a badass), the far left wants to end the fed (see Nader) it may help the libertarian cause to join the far left. Political philosophies are not on a two dimenional plane. Rather they form a circle with facism and communism meeting on one side, and libertarianism and the Nader's of the world meeting on the other side. Democrates and repulicans represent the fascists. This is the opposite view. It is shared by both the far right and the far left.
lukerlunker 2 years ago
I live in Florida (Orlando actually) and Grayson is not a badass. The true "liberal" in the Milton Friedman or Adam Scott sense of the word was as close to a libertarian as you can get. Your statement about Nader is true - he would like to see some of the massive gov't involvement relieved - however he would counteract it with even further social restriction (and that is no where near the true liberal). I also agree with your statement that political philosophy is not a clear 2 side division.
ncerione 2 years ago
@ncerione I'm sure your pissed about healthcare and Grayson. I think the cost of care will go up under this bill as well. If we are lucky we will break even.
I am just curious if you are going to vote for him or not in a year...
Personally I am more about a left and right libertarian coalition, than a strictly libertarian ideology. A government that truly represents the people, can work well....Just my opinion.

Question:
How come China is turning to be this economic locomotive in the far east when the Government over there is "controlling" the market?
I'm for freedom and all that. But I'm still convinced that the market needs it's government to regulate it.
I'd rather have my company, or invest in a company, where I know the politicians controls the playing field and promote fair play.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that's the kind of idea is behind the "obamacare", so it ain't that bad, or?
DPBnor 2 years ago
Its all relative. Think of it this way...How much government intervention was going on in the 1980's in China? A ton. In 1992 to 1995, a ton. Then China's government is very much out of the way compared to waht it used to be. When you have 1 billion people that are that hungry to get away from the Confusionism philosophy they had in the past, and make revenue, its going to happen.
lukerlunker 2 years ago
@DPBnor Additionally, the US companies are moving there because there are many people who are willing to work for cheap. China's per capita GDP is only 3500 dollars. There is 1 billion people there. It is the cheap labor capital of the world. If 1 billion people are opened to somewhat free markets you can bet the economy is going to explode.
lukerlunker 2 years ago

In a recent interview he suggested that we may need to invade Iran. Furthermore he suggested that he supported going after WMD's in Iraq. The fact that he's even playing with these ideas raises a red flag.
Kurosawaisgod 2 years ago
What interview is that where he said he would be in favor of invading Iran? I believe what his stance is, is that the US should be proactive in preventing Iran from receiving nuclear weapons. Now thats not the same is a full military invasion.
Also, where did he say he supported going after WMD's in Iran. That might of been when our gov't was still finding out if A)Iraq had WMD's and B)If there was a connection between Iraq and Osama Bin Laden?
flukemate 2 years ago
He said that he would never invade Iran. If Iran was trying to make nuclear weapons he would "blow the place up" (factory, not the entire Iran) because he doesn't believes that Iran is capable of guarding those weapons(from terrorists).
Voy2378 2 years ago
He stated if our intelligence suggested that Iraq had WMD's he would be for invading. Therefore from that premise I think it's a fair assumption say Peter would have supported the Iraq invasion initially because our intelligence did in fact claim they did carry WMD's.
Bombing Iran is an invasion. Iran shouldn't even be considered a legitimate threat to this nation. They hate us because we're occupiers. His statements reek of Neocon stench when it comes to foreign policy.

I remember a while ago when I heard that; he wasn't very definitive as to what he would do. I don't think he said that he would be for invading; I think he said that it would be a possibility, but not a definite.
I think when he gets more education on foreign policy he'll be better. We'll see as the primary gets closer.

His book is precisely why I became a fan of his.

Its not like he supports making an amendment in the constitution where no person can have an abortion.
flukemate 2 years ago 2
Why would you need to amend it? Right to life is already guaranteed already.
Yes, I disagree with abortion no matter the time of the pregnancy.
I would support it banned on a state level.
I still do support Schiff
Daniel44125 2 years ago
to me life starts when there are brainwaves. otherwise its just another part of a womens body. in any case its irrelevant to the federal government because its not a federal matter, its a state matter. why get the feds involved? they handle federal matters only. they handle things at the state level, not the individual level. thats for the states.
michaelpshipley1 2 years ago
Why would u amend it-So your saying every abortion that takes place is against the constitution?
You say that u support it being banned on a state level but what does that mean? U think it should be left up to the states to decide and that if you were a governor, you'd be in favor of abortion or do you mean that there should be a federal law banning all abortions?
If your against abortions at any time, what about if a women gets raped? What if having the baby kills the women. Still in favor?
flukemate 2 years ago
@flukemate There is a little pill called the morning after pill. If a women is raped she could receive one along with a rape kit.
Its extremely rare that carrying a child will cause a mother to die. Most deaths during pregnancy are due to child birth itself. That rarely if at all happens in the US since cesarean section is used. If there is ever a legitimate case where a mother would die, that should be decided by the mother and doctor.
Daniel44125 2 years ago
The reason I disagree with you that the right to life is not the same life that starts when you said as science says it starts w/ regards to the chromosomes is that a fetus is unique in that providing the right to life of a fetus impinges on the rights of someone else aka the mother which is an externality.
Our fundamental constitutional rights have no externalities to them and thats the main premise for me being pro-choice.
flukemate 2 years ago
There is no "right" to kill an unborn child. Never has been. Child may "impinge" on mother's "right" not to be pregnant, but we don't let the mother kill a "born" child because it "impinges" on her "right" not to be bothered with dependent.
mandatum 2 years ago
Also, wrt the morning after pill, what if the women realizes shes pregnant a month after the rape occurs? Im not too familiar with how exactly an morning after pill works but I dont think it would work in that case.
The fact that you can admit that there are instances where an abortion is justified, no matter how rare the case maybe shaws a flaw in ur fundamental belief that the right to life of a fetus is the same as the right to life of a born human.
flukemate 2 years ago
I don't think is a flawed argument. Its called a compromise. I honestly think its the mothers decision in life threatening cases. Since she has a life as well. If two people were stranded in the middle of the ocean hanging to some wreckage that only supported one of them. I believe that they both have justification in fighting for their own life by pushing one of them off.
Morning after pill forces a period thus keeping the lady from getting pregnant.
Daniel44125 2 years ago
@flukemate Maybe one day science will advance to the point where a women can have a fetus or child removed and implanted in a willing mother. Maybe even grown in an artificial wound then later adopted.

definitely a plant. he didnt disagree with schiff's views on the economy, he personally attacked him. thats classic cloward and piven.

Imagine if Schiff had Goldsmith's last name, lol

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Peter Schiff is a very smart guy and often prescient: However, If what he says is true, that the heatlh care crisis is just another crisis wittingly created by the govt.
What is he going to do, or how is he going to change that by being elected?
I cant take him seriously. Beyons some financial thoughts. He needs to learn what infaltion is also with his 5k gold predictions.

yes, we can increase our spending and China will ALWAYS lend us money.
Maybe we can raise the income tax now with all the money generated now from real estate derivatives now, hmm?

I like how he pointed out how he pays a lot of taxes. Good point. It amazes me at how ignorant some people can be. If there are two places to invest money and a man favors one over the other because he believes it's a better investment, what's wrong with that? He should lose money for himself and his clients to make himself seem more patriotic? I think that heckler is just mad he doesnt have the smarts Schiff does. Upset he doesnt have money to invest. Maybe he lost it in an American company. :P

He sounds like a trade unionist.
His profession probably is supported by government bailouts and subsidies.

Are the Yale students so hopelessly corrupted by their socialist professors that they don't show up in large numbers for Peter Schiff? Go down to Yale, you can win a good debate.

I believe the rally was poorly advertised.
You're right. 1000 people might have been there with better PR!
PALINSMITH 2 years ago
it also looked very cold.
michaelpshipley1 2 years ago
Schiff didn't organize the rally, he was just an invited speaker.

the most important thing is it gets on youtube. and it did thanks to you.

I can't believe someone would actually think just because you have money invested in another country's companies that makes you unAmerican. Seems to me like just another baseless attack being used because the person can't debate on a philisophical or intelligent level.
RileyE104 2 years ago 2
Why does he have to have lots of money invested in America to be an American? If he believes his wealth is better invested somewhere else then who is that guy to complain? It's not his money. If he wants to invest money in American companies, then by all means, he can do so, but he has no right to tell another man what to do with his money.
