  • yeah I'm 35 and I started watching tony hawk and then on a freak meeting got to see Dogtown at a pool party .. Tony Alva, Jay Adams, and The Alva team I think back in 88. Then I got to skate with alot of pros cause I lived in So Cal .. Almost got sponsered twice but it didn't happen for me .. Then I chiped my ankle on a roll and got pissed and started Mixed martial arts.. However Skating got me through some tough times and this video used to be my warm up video.. I got harrased by cops alot..=)

  • Dude, alot of dudes in questionable killed the curbs, haha, duffy did a switch back blunt 270 on a fucking curb. madness.

  • primus sucks

  • how did he have back smiths so good

  • These oldskool videos are what pushed skating to the limits. This video was ahead of its time. The tricks they were doing were untill now nearly impossible. These guys were doing shit that people still couldnt do.Jeremy wray olling a fucking water tower.Respect these guys. They still skate and are pioneers.

  • 1 word. AMAZING!

  • this video started the revolution; hands down!

  • 4:00 i was like no way he can't do it no no no no OMG HE DID IT!!!!

  • i wish some cop would say "don't you see that sign?! it says NO SKATEBOARDING... just kidding you can skateboard all ya like"

  • If it wasn't my uncle showing this part when I was twelve(three years ago) I wouldn't be skating

  • @falleinloveshoes7 your uncle is a good man.

  • you may not see all the curb tricks but still way ahead of his time

  • this would be considered a really good part today

  • @daredevilkid06 its a good part period for any timeline tbh

  • search "the andres1131"

it is also a great skate video

  • People are so ignorant, talking about how they can do that and this but the thing is they know they can do that because of Duffy. How Duffy knew this was all possible is beyond me, if you were born back then you wouldn't have ever thought of even attempting to 50-50 a huge round rail going down a 20 set.

  • @sk8ordieata The other option BTW, is to STFU and respect the legends of the sport you love.

  • @sk8ordieata Not sure if your parents explained this concept, but you need to consider the sport at that time. you have the arrogant luxury of saying "yea i can do that now", but what you don't understand is that everything Pat Duffy did at this time was completely unheard of. Instead of marginalizing legends that have advanced the sport and given you the tricks that you know are possible and take for granted, how about you advance the sport to the next level like he did for skating?

  • Shiiit!!! If i was born 30 years ago right now i´ll be sponsored, cause i skate better than that x)

  • @sk8ordieata ehhh wtf? i can gurantee you get hyped when you boardslide your flatbar down a curb. And if your retarded enough to not undestand the signifigance of this part then wtf are you doing here? as other have said before this part came along, people wer hyped when the ollied a set, the same size of set that duffy is smithing. Go wank over sheckler and come back when you understand what real skateboarding is.

  • @sk8ordieata i checked out your channel. no you wouldn't, and no you're not.

  • I'm 35yr Now and this was the Ultimate pre-skate motivational video of the day for me and and my skate mates. . Bones vids were cool, but not like this, Blind - video days was good , but not like this... No other video back then was this iconic for crazy handrail skating...

  • 3.00:// is bad boy!!

  • 11 people fail. 17. April 2011

  • is that first guy mikey taylor? lol.

  • Back smith through a kink?

It is sick because Duffy just gets better with age.

  • This is one of the top 5 most historically important parts in skateboard video history.

  • Mark Gonzales and Natas--Pat Duffy--Jamie Thomas----everyone else

  • I saw this video for the first time in early 2000 it made me the skateboarder who I am today.

  • ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿......?????

  • Skatebording used to be about fun.......Now it is about sponsers and money and POSERS!!!!! What hapend to all the fun.

  • i think he really did come from the future, to make kids crazier, i grew up skating with a dude who had a pat duffy board i never seen the part back then and he was really good -younger than me but he surpassed me quickly, and that friend of mine is now in the military front line door kicker inner. and he was goofy footed.

  • Leo Romero is the modern Pat Duffy.

  • this is where street skating as it is today started. i watched this video a thousand times when it came out. if it were not for this video there would be no shawn white no x games. At that time people hated skaters it was a small world in the so cal skate scene, not a corporate juggernaught like it is today. good times good times

  • I remember seeing this part for the 1st time in the 90s....Pat Duffy was the only one doing this sh%t. He definitely progressed skating to a bigger standard....

  • i love this song

  • Tommy the Cat is may naaame!

  • This video changed my life when it came out. I'd watch this then go out in the streets and fucking rage.

  • back lip down a 14 or so set in the rain? fuck that

  • two words!!!! KINKED RAILS!!!!!

  • dude i was friends with him before he was to to to famous and he gave me his deck 2! :D

  • the king!

  • SOMEBODY IS SELLING ALL 4 PLAN B VIDEOS ON EBAY FOR LIKE 20 BUCKS!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Pat Duffy

    Puff Daddy...hm

  • what school is the rail at he backlips for his banger? somewhere in SF im guessing but anyone know the name?

  • For anyone who wasn't around then, there's no way to explain how overwhelming a shock this video part was at the time.

  • hubba hideout, RIP

  • [continued geezer rant]

Street skating was at a crossroads in 1992. Pressure flips and really weak, slow flippy tricks were threatening to take over. At the time, many people thought that stuff was the only way to be new and "cutting edge." But video parts like Pat's helped get over the idea that the tip of the "going big" iceberg had only just surfaced, and that's where the real future of skateboarding was.

  • @boloby Thanks for dropping the knowledge.

  • @boloby I was one of the kids watching this video over and over in the skate shop. It was epic. All we talked about was plan B. Skateboarding was life. We dreamed of being like Pat Duffy and John Cardiel, and filmed our every move. We broke boards, broke trucks, and broke bones trying to get there. Watching these old clips still brings a feeling of awe.

  • It's so cliched for old guys to tell the "young 'uns" how these ancient video parts were so important. But holy shit if it ain't true. I still remember how incredible that 50-50 grind was to watch for the first time. As he approached it, I snickered and thought it was a joke. Then, after the first kink, I thought, "he'll get close and slam hard." Then he fucking landed it. Seriously, if you weren't around for that moment, you can't understand how brilliant it was. [old geezer rant continued...]

  • @boloby Preach! I watched it at our local youth centre that became the hub of skateboarding after 8pm every friday for the first time and got closer to wetting myself than a 6ft cat

  • @boloby too bad short shorts never got popular...(?)

  • still one of the gnarliest enders ever

  • fuck people who say he has no style this shit is groundbreaking for its time he is a pioneer of sorts.who could dislike this video?

  • So sick to know that pat Duffy was doing this stuff way back before it was popular

  • wow his 50-50 grinds are so fucked up solid !!!!

  • this video part may be even more mind blowing today....watch any other part aroudn this same time and its unthinkable that this came from the same time period

    pat duffy = the man

  • probably most important vid part EVER, next level guy

  • rikaso chuchetumadre al man le vale verga todo

  • hahah i wonder if he's still got the 540 double flips down.

and that kinked rail is just as sick now as it was back then

  • amazing. so ahead of the game. duffy rules

  • he's good. but i didn't see him skate any switch hardly. i'm not saying anything cause i can't skate switch at all. but..

  • @SuperDave7089 and who was skating switch a lot in 1992, it was brand new and still evolving ... you might as well be complaining about skaters in the 60's on their banana boards not doing ollies when all they had were kickturns ... seriously, grow a BRAIN dude!

  • Comment removed

  • wow, this is good even today. Except for his style. Nobody skates in the rain

  • back smith a 14 stair handrail in 93 think about it!

  • I saw the rainy backlip trick-tip in the mag before I saw it live here. Pat's check out said two years skating. GD, that's just like Shefffey, I thought..

I'll bet that was quality time... :) I wonder if he likes the residents as much as that other band...

  • I love this clip... one of my faves from the entire video nex to Mullen's with Louis Armstrong and Cat Stevens.... awesome.. miss seeing this stuff!

  • backside lipslide in the rain? Pat Duffy, you are a crazy bitch :P

  • still mind blowing to this day...the bs smith through the kink at 2:00 is probably one of the best tricks ever done in my opinion

  • @renedit Amen!

  • what was that flip trick at 2:57

  • @psychedeliccheese 360 double flip

  • Primus+Pat Duffy= Good times.

Bought this vid from a local shop for £20 what a vid!

  • it's crazy that kids would be talking shit on his style or ability. it's the zumiez generation

  • Primus and Put Duffy

    GREAT COMBINATION!

  • Insane!

  • pat puffy blew everyone's mind out even pros too.. there's v411 video made a part talking about how that video part blew everyone's mind out and changed world, i forgot which issue but i'm sure it's between 2001 to 2005.. good story and his sets of stairs longass rail, still really few skaters done that and it's 2010 already now but pat's longass rail murdered was in 92!! unbelievable, he had death wish..

  • duffy also known as " man from the future ".

  • that music absolutley sucked, haha but it was wicked funny so i favorited it, look at my vids

  • he was born where i was born!!!

  • i remember this song from bill and teds bogus journey :)

  • his last 6 or 7 tricks would probably still hold up in videos today. skating a handrail in the rain!?

  • @ajk1989 and backside lipslide too?!?!?!

  • @mekosilvar Yeah, it's partially because of the cameras and also because at this time it wasn't popular at all. So the skaters were outsiders.

  • true, but they were inventing all the tricks we take for granted now as staples.

  • thank you for handrails pat. damn this got street going

  • nice:D

  • Remember when this first came out. The backlip in the rain to 'riders in the storm' is a timeless classic.

  • sick!he is a legend put handrails on the map!!!!

  • lucky bastard.

  • @tailfever37

"pat is sict kaing 10x ettr in person i see him like 3 times a month"...

wtf, have you been smoking too much weed ?

  • shiitt

  • really? that was awesome

  • All you youngsters have to realize the gravity of this video part. This was from the questionable video aka 92 plan b. This was in 92 where skaters were doing pressure flip and spin off 360s; in the eyes of the public skateboarding was dead. Duffy totally changed the face of street skating forever. In fact, people wouldn't be shredding rails like that for another 4-6 years. He was way ahead of his time.

  • some of the stuff is still pretty hard like his back smiths and noseblunts. And he one of the only ones who does switch in these old videos

  • Great Assessment I agree with you 100% This part was a game changer.

  • @quagmireco i started to read the comments on this video and i realized that there is no future in the world. You are all so fucking stupid that i am bleeding from my eyes.

  • @smooge wait...it took these video comments for you to realize that computers and the internet have ruined kids? Have you seen brokencyde? The millionaires, ohblowoh? Remember when the warped tour used to be punk rock and skateboarding? Now it's techno vomit with screamo vocals. These kids are seriously fucked.

  • @quagmireco Agreed.

  • @quagmireco well said man!!!

  • @quagmireco

i was skatin when this was out, first skate video i saw ever at a guys' house that i met that had been already skatin for a few years, we didn't have the luxury of skateparks back then. I miss the old days man.

  • @quagmireco WTF? Not sure what kids thinkin but this is when pressure flips, late shove its, late flips and a whole bunch of evolutionary style began.

    Kids better know

This was when it all started!!

  • word. dude SKATING WAS SUPER DEAD. b-side lipslide in THE RAIN> come on.

quagmireco is 100% right. between this and video days-those videos and those dudes changed skating. they brought a limitless to everything -especially street skating.

  • PRIMUS - TOMMY THE CAT

  • 3 things to say:

    1. I didnt think Duffy was good until iwatched this vid.

    2. 1:36 was the fastest and sickest tre flip.

    3. What the hell was up with the music. lol?

  • nobody can kill a back smith like PD

  • LEGEND

probably the sickest 5 or so minutes in the history of video

  • pat es la verga

  • 3:01 wtf????

  • Yeah but that other handrail shit wasn't a back lip in the rain. When this came out it changed the attitude of all street skaters. I remember. I was one of them.

  • The back smith on the kink rail is fucking epic.

  • Yeap, is epic. We are in 2009 and i have not seen a top pro or am, landing a trick like that, on a spot like that. Maybe Templeton...but im not sure.

  • this part seriously inspired me alot. duffy is a legend.

  • Why do you skate with shorts on?

  • This part changed skating forever.

  • RAD!!!!!

  • This was ground breaking stuff in 1991

  • primus sucks

  • skates like a monster!!!

  • YES ... he's a Terminator!!!

  • Thsi section represented one of the biggest every steps forward in skateboarding in my opinion.

However, although Pat was the first person to skate big rails with style and tech, it's worth remembering Frankie Hill who put down some seriously gnarly stuff for the time during the late 1980s....like lipslides down 10 stairs etc.

  • Props to Johnee Kopp for kicking it off.

  • Yeah, first handrail photo in the Bible.

Also, I saw a photo of Natas with a 10 stair boardslide in '87. Well, that's Natas.

  • Yeah, how did I neglect to mention Natas. I think that he did the first 50-50, although Mark Gonzales was trying them at about the same time.

Can you imagine trying something like that without even knowing whether it's even possible or not? Those guys had such progressive approaches to skateboarding.

Then again, there was nobody out the to tell them how hard the tricks were as nobody had done them before.

  • tommy the kat

  • demasiado buenos

  • all you motherfuckers are gonna die....

because you would'ent know great if it

slaped you in the motherfucken face.

    respect your elders bitches....

  • dame did u see that nightmare

  • stfu

  • I'll never understand how guys do 50-50 grinds on round rails, much less the super long double kink Pat did near the end of this classic part...I skated one about a foot off the ground and nearly broke my face trying it. Ah, well. I worship them, but when they slam super hard sometimes, it makes me feel better!

  • the good ol' days. duffy is the shit

  • you lock your wheels to the side

  • I really love skateboarding but recently i have been getting VERY bored with it, Ibelieve because I have been having a really, really, really hard time learning 360 flips.

Has anyone got any tips to get me back into skarting or for 360 flips?

  • This is gonna sound really stupid, but what the hell. I assume you've mastered regular kickflips? For 360 flips, first off try 180 kickflips (trust me) then as your legs grow stronger you'll notice it gets easier...then you can transition to the 360. You'll be kickin it around as hard as you can, but after a while you'll notice you don't need to try that hard. Oh, and do them off a ledge or some steps, not flatground...this gives the board more time to rotate.

  • Start rollerblading, you'll be back enoying skateboarding in no time !

  • Dude this is real early 90's, this shit was revolutionary for its time.

  • style or no style he still gets paid more than you ever will

  • no style? its pat duffy style!

  • If this video was released today it would be awesome. If you take into context that it was made in 1991, you have undoubtedly the most advanced skating scene ever filmed. No one was doing anything close to this at that time. It inspired a whole new genre of decks, trucks, wheels, clothes, etc. It effectively killed vert for a while.

It was so revolutionary and ahead of it's time that it simply can't be understated.

  • I watched this on VHS back in 91 in New Zealand.

Fuck Y'all!! Theirs a reason Plan B opened with Pat Duffy, instead of Danny Way. Nothing on video existed on video that inspired street skating more so, than this sequence of handrail tricks..

Jason Lee in Video Days is not as inspiring to skate as watching this and nothing really in New Deal 1281 or useless wooden toys.

Get y'all shit straight up, before posting irrelevant comments from a period of skating outside of your existence...

  • Pat Duffy has some serious style

  • primus sucks!

  • who remembers Plan B's SHS video? or thrasher 911 back in 1995, I think I bought my first skate shoe back in 1992, i bought the etnies screws in 93, best shoe ever

  • Untouchable, pat duffy the greatest, pushed skating to another level!

  • dude this was when tech tricks started getting famous

  • when he was 13 as you there were no tricks almost. You are a tony hawks pro skater video game product surely

  • now you're also a douche and you're 13

  • he only learned to tre when he was 19. i think thats cos it was an unknown trick back then

  • let's see your crap-ass better than Pat Duffy video.

  • 360 double flip.

  • yea ok but at least he isnt a fag

  • r u on skate 2

  • my flight attendent is friends with him

  • damn this is old, he had a jacket tied around his waist lol

  • does anyone know where in chicago they are skating at

  • at one point he was skating at the school i go to!! redwood high and thats north of SF so not all was filmed in chicago

  • sick video

  • nobody nowadays does ANYTHING close to the kinked long ass handrail near the end

  • thats not completely true, geoff rowley, arto saari, and greg lutzka all ended with a long kinked rail in one of their video parts

  • dude that handral that they all did their tricks onl if definitely significantly shorter than the one pat fifty fityed. not to mention that was more than 18 years ago.

  • This was the time when skateboarding was original and creative. Not that it still isn't it just has lost a lot of its originality. Thanks for OLD SCHOOL upload.

  • yeah dude i so agree with u

  • only two words..five stars

  • ehhh i haven´t noticed until now that he did the backlip in the rain twice! lol all the years i thought it was the only one, and i was already stoked to death! same for the huge 50-50...

  • wicked pressure flip homie
