I learned this trick a long time ago. You bend at the middle till you see a visible line in the side of the pages and peel down on each side like a banana. Do not try to pull in different directions but with the center creased peel down both sides at the same time. You do have to have "some" strength to do this but you dont have to be super strong either. I have taught women how to do this and even they can do it as well as men.

actually he didn't bend it or anything. it was a brand new phone book that we picked up on the street.
