  • non ce n'è per nessuno!

  • the day i was born

  • I love the tempo! All other recordings that i heard are slower and i didn't like them, that's why she is LA DIVINA, thank you for everything!

  • INMENSA.......

  • Dear singers: please take note of her incredible rhythmic sense.......

Bravissima Maria !!

  • IS IT TRUE THAT THERE IS A RECORDING OF HER IN DON CARLO OPERA IN A PRIVATE COLLECTION?? I READ IT IN AN OPERA MAGAZINE!!!!

  • Sie war einfach wunderbar! So eine wird es niemals mehr geben.

  • When she throws her hands down at the end, I get chills...Callas was powerful on stage...Greatly missed :-)

  • People DO confuse "singing" with "sound producing", which is as stupid as to thinks that "moving" and "dancing" are the same thing....

So many singers produced some glorious sounds, and some of them also sung very beautifully, some others, Oh Lord, and how many, ONLY produced sounds, beautiful ones, but only sounds.

Now, Callas, even when the sound she produces is not always beautiful, IS THE BEST SINER OF THEM ALL, because of the way she "sings" , unique and musically perfect.

  • La Callas... is THE Ópera...

  • Divina anche senza voce.

  • Callas should not have switched to mostly bel canto. she is a Verdi voice

  • Wat is she if not passionate and drammatic. Not the best singing though, on a balance. Verret and Florence Quivar are tonally superior.

  • I've heard this aria million times before, but only with Callas I've heard "Un di mi resta"...marvelous!

  • nobody can double CALLAS!

  • DIOSA!!!!!

  • There is a wonderful dramatic intelligence at play here - no doubt. However, you can feel the strain the voice is under. The chest register is hammered, and the upper register wobbles under pressure.

  • callas had a beautiful voice the recording is terrible that's why it's sound a little bit strange

  • any women who can bring a grown man to tears via song is beyond excellent. NO words can beging to decsribe. The passion the style the feel the women the one and only Callas. Notes may be flawed by style and passion lack for nothing the performance is 10 stars out of 5

  • Callas is to singing as Terpsichore is to dancing.

  • is that a wig.?

  • This was absolutely without a doubt....there are not even words to describe how beautifully she delivered this song. Not only does she have an amazing voice, she feels the song as if shes living in the music. She seems like shes in a different realm and that everyone in the audience is not there. There is and never will be anyone who can even come close to half of how she feels this song while singing. She touches everyones heart and there will truely never anyone like the one and only Maria Ca

  • ¡¡¡TAMBIEN PODIA HACER OBRAS COMO ESTA; QUE MARAVILLA!!! POCAS ERAN

CAPACES DE ABORDAR CON TANTA GENUINIDAD, TANTA GRANDIOCIDAD, CO-

MO PODIA ELLA. ¡¡¡Y DESPUES DISCUTEN QUE NO ERA LA UNICA, CLARO QUE

LO ERA,EN SU ESTILO Y FORMA, ORIGINAL Y SIN COPIAS!!!

  • Despite the bad high Bs with their huge, flapping vibrato, she is superb. The phrasing, timing, intonation, mezza voce, sadness, despair, all is there. And wow, those low chest notes, more audible than a contralto's, almost masculine! Shame she never sang Eboli on stage. She sang Elisabetta only once, La Scala 1954, and couldn't sympathise with a character who does not react, but laments herself for the whole opera. Callas would have been a fantastic Eboli in 1964-5, bad high notes and all!

  • Callas` voice has never sounded so beautifully to me. And I usually don`t so. Such an Eboli. (and that`s a compliment)

  • in trying to pinpoint the differences in her voice from even 4 years before and what many consider her vocal decline starting in the 50s, it's apparent that what renee fleming says about it is true. her posture and poor breath support cause a lot of screechy, strident notes at the top as evidenced by the complete misses of the high notes at 1:08 and at 3:25. the weight loss she went through so quickly didn't allow her a chance to find proper support, or rather to accustom to her changing body.

  • Nothing very angelic about the note at 3.26 - you could drive a truck through it

• This voice is no angel's voice. It blows the piddly little angels out of the sky with a mega-bazooka. And that's why she is an artist and not merely a singer.

  • @nicksum29 SOOO RIGHT !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • at 1:08, the high note? HELL YEAH!

  • 1:08 - high note: HELL YEAH!

  • I don't agree that it is an angel voice. It is a passionate, impressive, earthy, dark and agressive sound with a monumental actress , musician and singer in command. Nobody sings this in this degree of drammatism. It is hair raising ! Brava Maria , everybody misses you !

  • One of my fav arias

  • Fasten ur seatbelts!! :D:D

  • sing at your best, and break your resister. do your best in the limited blossom time. that's good. in fact most of opera singers's careers were very short before world war two. lack of scientific protection of voice, and the character as entertainer and craftmen rather than pure artist pushed them at that time. they were real opera singers sang opera on the stage several times in a week, not bel-canto vocal artist sometimes sing real opera. Maria was the last one in this period.that's all

  • decades after her last recorded song or performance on stage she is still the conundrum that people would debate over. she was a soprano, an actress, who lived and breathed art during her life. and even in death she is still stirring the same

  • Pas sa meilleure performance...

  • To have "technical problems" DOESN'T MEAN "not to have technique at all". To presume that Callas didn't have technique only shows a TOTAL IGNORANCE of musicianship, and of the definition of technique, in singing or in ANY OTHER FIELD. To imply that AVOIDING chest resonances is to HAVE A STRONG TECHNIQUE, is indeed, ludicrous. To pretend that singing an aria WITH ONE EVEN COLOUR THROU OUT is a demonstration of technique, is absurd and ignorant.

  • WOW- the intensity and the totality of the performance is a marvel!!!.Aside from this only Verrett and Bumbry does justice to this piece but hmm...technique is a problem. Too much strain on the voice in the higher passagios but the mezza voce and middle voice is great. There will never be a soprano like Callas that can sing a phrase that reflects a whole lifetime of experience in one single breath. Brava!

  • love the hair...

  • Callas what this aria is all about.

  • @ ferricheart

You are the expert on being wrong.

  • Oh my God!!!!! Nobody will never be able to do that again... Yes, yes, we know, sometimes a jarring note here and there... But who cares of that, when the result is THIS??!!

  • @fan2jnrc

    Sorry, but you're wrong.

Take, for example the ugliest actress from hollywood and a random egyptian singer and you reach the same result.

Could it be, that you're a little bit blue-eyed, or perhaps idiotic?

  • @ferricheart Ferric-face you're the expert on eating human shit!!

  • La Divina--sing it my goddess!

  • Posture varies between techniques, just FYI. There are techniques where the shoulders push forward. However I agree that they shouldn't be raised....Basically she gets out a great sound and great dramatic intensity and emotion and this is pushing later into her career so yes her higher notes are less strong...

  • 1:14 sounds like a little chest, but we all know the divas would not dare!!!

  • Preferisco altre voci sopranili.

    I prefer other soprano voices.

Callas here was already out of her golden age and made also mystakes with lyrics.

But she is always the greatest actress and performer in the history of opera.

  • Wow, I love Maria, but you can just see how NO practice, has affected her posture.. They raised shoulders, and the neck so stiff.. its no wonder that High b Wobbled.. She had to push hard to get it out.

  • @leonardovittori1

Sadly I agree. She even muddles up the lyrics (!!!!). Despite that, the dramatic fire still burns brightly. The regret and sadness in "O mia regina...." Breathtaking!

  • 1) Callas

    2) Verret

    3) Zajick

  • @raigekimaru

PS: Zajick is underrated as hell. People complain about "where did all the bel canto and verdi voices go?" and I'm like "umm...Sam Ramey, Giuseppe Giacomini, Dolora Zajick, Annick Massis, June Anderson (although certainly past her prime)" why aren't they in the spot light now instead of all these younger singers with small lyric voices trying to sing verdi and rossini?

  • Like a lazer full emotion.

  • magical!

  • an.absulute.beauty

  • amazing

  • E ALLORA SBAGLIAMO LE PAROLE!

  • listen to her perfectly placed portamentos... spectacular (as is everything else, but they were particularly moving in this performance)

  • It's her "maledetto". I love it!

  • @vandrops you will never be able to sing like she did so shut up,and do not dare to offend her, because no one will ever be able to sing like her...tell me another soprano who can sing Amina,Walkiria and Carmen....ohhh...I forgot...it doesn't exist anyone else who can

  • @vandrops Hey FILAREEDO, that's exatly what I posted on Netrebko!! You are copying my wit, intelligence, and global greatness. I shit on you and Netrebko on a daily basis.

Netrebko is garbage compared to LA Divina Callas. You are also garbage.

  • @hammer55292

    I know, you are Striker!

Yes, I copying your wit, intelligence, and global greatness.

  • @vandrops LMAO!! I just read that Netrebko got " HAMMERED ' by the critics for her performances in San Francisco with Villazon , and her MET tour. They say she is ready to quit. I'm not sure if they meant entirely or just that tour, but she is having tremendous problems. It's all online, read it yourself. It will teach you bastards right for even so slightly tainting the image of Divina Of All Divinas, The Inhuman singing of Soprano Sfogato Assoluta ..............CALLAS!!

  • @hammer55292

I love your comments! You're so intelligent and maudlin.

  • @vandrops Wow, you are possibly the most sub-human cunt I have ever come across online. Why do you exist in society?

  • @NotHomelessAnymore

Sorry, I know only british and american sub-human cunts who exist in society!

  • x vandrops

Asshole, if you like fanny, it's enough that you go to the porn site, it's not necessary to heare the lyric music, because you don't understand a fucking thing of lyric music.

  • @0odalisca0

    "Do not disturb my circles"..

Why you're so feisty? I'm no detractor i tell YT-people only the truth about Maria. So leave me alone and learn from me!!

I don't say Callas was bad. I say she was a mediocre Mezzo and she sings a bit OVER the level from Florence Foster Jenkins. No depth, no variety of tones, monotonous, shallow, very poor enunciation of the lyrics and no precise control of dynamics and sounds like a random Egyptian singer because of the way she acts and looks

  • @vandrops

what you say about Callas it seems the same delirium like that one of that crazy american historian who said that shoah didn't never exist. The hole world considers her the best ever. It stands to reason that you don't understand anything of liryc music. But it can be your opionion. But you can't call her "shit" and similar... Netrebco is really mediocre singer, the only thing she has is the beautiful face.

  • @0odalisca0

'The pure and simple truth is rarely pure but always simple'. Vandrops.

    OMG what a mess!

Firstly, you're right the historian was an idiot, indeed!

Secondly, there are four billions people being ignorant of Callas. She's only familiar in America and south europe.

Thirdly, why you compare to compare apples to oranges. Callas was one of the Top5 but the voice sounds pretty ugly and Netrebko is good only in her own rep but her voice is one of the most beautiful voices ever.

  • @vandrops

But it's only YOUR opinion that Netrebko's voice is one of the most beautiful voices ever! Probably you've never heard anyone else (except Callas). Netrebko is like MANY MANY other singers. And it's not true that Callas is only familiar in America and south europe. Such a crock! And, I'm sorry, but I really think that you don't understand anything of liryk singing.

  • @0odalisca0

Italian stallion without dick why you write such a bullshit? You have no notion from Opera AND CALLAS!

If you see the views, it's only people from Amerika and south europe. Where is your problem?

She is forgotten since 40 years and 6 billions people don't know Callas but Netrebko!!!!!!

  • @vandrops

Talk to you is the same like to talk to a monkey. You are completely obtuse and ignorant. I will answer you any more. It's useless to talk to an idiot.

  • @vandrops

P.S. CALLAS WAS NOT MEZZO. SHE WAS A SOPRANO, WHO COULD SING ALSO ARIAS FOR MEZZO. ONLY OTHER 2 OR 3 SOPRANOS IN THE WORLD COULD DO IT. And Netrebko is not one of them. She can not even take a very hight notes!!!

  • @0odalisca0

She was a Mezzo who could sing also arias for soprano, nevertheless only until 1958. Afterwards she was too cowardly and vain to change the whole repertoire to Mezzo.

Hey you arsehole, we talk about Callas and not Netrebko. If you wanna talk about Netrebko go to her sites.

  • My good opera friends.

Callas has some ok stuff for the average listener. However, if you want to hear the The Greatest Soprano Of All Time, go to the sites of the Magnificent Anna Netrebko. There you will hear opera beyond human form. There you will hear surreal sound, that once you hear her, you will not be able to go back to other singers again. Once you hear the world greatest opera singer Anna Netrebko, you will understand why she is proclaimed, La Divina Soprano Assoluta!!!

  • BORING VOICE!!!

If this screaming singer is the best i know why opera is only circle of freaks.

  • @vandrops Yes Vandroopp, junk singers like Anna Netrebko are ruining opera!! You're right, only the freakazoids like that fat, ugly, pregnant sow from the farm outside of Krasnodar.

  • @vandrops Thank you for paying tribute to me!! You copied my exact comments on Netrebko, several weeks ago, simply putting in Callas' name. You must secretly admire my wit, and high intelligence!!

Wow, you are COPYING my comments!! Hammer must have you against the ropes!!

LMAO!! Yes, I am the HAMMER OF HELL!! I will pound all of you little bitches into the ground, with your fat, ugly, PREGNANT SOW NETREBKO!! Send the pig mother back to the farms outside Krasnodar, where she belongs.

  • @hammer55292

LIAR!!!! It was STRIKER the great fighter, the wild Kodiak!

    But you're only a stinking racoon! You're a rat!

Dear God bring back STRIKER the real woodman and brave fighter.

  • @vandrops

she's walking out there like she's all that because she is all that. plus, it's stagecraft, you have to appear confident 100% of the time. anyway, peace =)

  • wow...she's so brave with the chest register. She just goes there...I recently was at the Met for Stifellio and Radvanovsky was so timid with the chest, and the part calls for such abandon...

  • I truly believe that Callas is the single greatest recorded singer period. Never has there been anyone like her. With all the skills of Sutherland, but a true ability to connect with the music, and express that connection which is heretofore unparalleled. She sang Puccini and Wagner too early hence only getting 5 years of her at her peak, but in the words of Beverly Sills "I'd rather have 5 years of Callas than a lifetime of myself"

Thank you Callas, and thank you a thousand times over again.

  • belmanotre: You must be a very angry and sad human being. Your postings are a cry for help. One hardly needs a degree in Psychology to deduce this. Please do not defile my inbox with any more of your filth. Never mind.send what you will. You're permanently blocked.

  • What she produces from 1:50 on just makes me cry, especially if you think of her biography. There never was a more moving, expressive singer. Immortal. Strictly technical / vocally, she is a bit past her very prime in this one, to be honest.

  • She was a real opera singers, not like some sopranos who are very successful nowadays and sing horrible.Divine and inspiring.

  • Unfortunately, this kind of singing does not exist anymore. Let's hope that in the future more better singers appear.

  • La Divina

  • Love Callas.

  • Although....in the highest notes, her vibrato is awfully pronounced and sounds shrill..but maybe she had a bad day. I know I've heard her sing this better

  • This is AMAZING. I wish I could have seen Callas perform but I was born too late (1980). I love how she sings O Don Fatale, it inspired many other mezzos and sopranos to do it this way. I also love this 1962 clip. She looks like Jackie Kennedy who was an admirer of hers. Callas sang for JFK

  • Oh Maria! The world misses you!

  • i miss you maria..... :(

  • I admire her alot!

  • The most expressive soprano ever. Honest emotions make the big difference.

    I agree with Elisabetta611, better 5 years ......

  • Il più grande soprano della storia!

  • What a diva! She will be missed.

  • I'm privileged that this was recorded!

  • This should be preserved forever.

  • She's the ultimate diva!

  • Callas and technique? who cares... The art of singing is about expressing emotions through the voice, is about making the listener feel something, something the singer wants him to feel... It's about manipulation, manipulate the listener, so he can`t do but to hear the piece; and Callas was a master on that art

  • Indeed, Callas is the ultimate interpreter.

  • I love her. She is just a wonderful singer and interpreter.

  • @churrerita22 AT LAST! I FOUND SOMEBODY WITH WHOM I CAN AGREE 100%.THE TECHNIQUE IS A MEAN TO AN END NOT AN END UNTO ITSELF.THE TECHNIQUE "ULTRAS" WILL TURN ART INTO SCIENCE,PERISH THE THOUGHT! I KNOW THAT THE ABOVE IS "JUST" AN OPINION-MINE ! VIVA LA CALLAS!

  • @churrerita22

depends on the style. in verismo, expression is much more important than technique. in baroque and bel canto, technique is much more important than expression, you want the listener to think "that's beautiful". in verdi, a singer needs the epitome of both.

PS: even in verismo, without a solid technique, you will not have a long career (Callas, fantastic tho she was, did not)

  • @churrerita22 I totally agree with you .... The best ... She is the best.

  • @BazilleToscaPauline

Can no-one see that she is the worst screecher of all opera singers. She breathes on her chest and doesn't use her diaphragm. She really isn't as good as everybody thinks, she has the typical western opera voice rather than the mellow Italian voice. I'm surprised her voice didn't run out sooner because of the way she sings on her throat, you can just hear the strain. Anyone who has been taught correctly will tell you this.

  • @vahisern

Not sure where you did your training, but no one sings with their diaphram. The airflow control is what makes the diaphram "move" and nothing else. Callas is a master(with flaws sure)but only those who can sing better should really be making your claims Breathes on her chest? Where do you think your lungs are? Your butt? That sening you hear on the throat is called chest voice, and is a healthy technique. Callas will always remain a freaking legend. End of Story.

  • @liamandsarah Gotcha but not sure that singing too much chest is a healthy thing as it breaks the register and I think it does strain the voice. Te Kanawa has always tried to avoid it to extend her career and to this day she still sings great. But NO ONE can take it away from Callas that she has the drama and the conviction in all that she sings!

  • @BazilleToscaPauline

    completely agree! :)

  • First of all, beauty is in the eye, or in this case the ear of the beholder/listener. You say "great musicianship" as if it were an every day event. Well, it is not. Bel Canto Coloratura screaming and shrieking ruined her? That's both untrue and unmusical. Bel Canto never hurt her voice. It was singing Kundry, Isolde, Norma, Turandot and Brünnhilde in her early twenties. Giving 500% burned her out. Better 5 years of Callas' blazing intensity than 50 years of boring vanilla voices.

  • JRTMUSH, you just signed up. Are you a fake, phony, trying to slide in and diss Callas? If you are, you better get out now.

  • It's such a privilege and opportunity to see her at work. OK, the upper register of the voice is not secure, but who cares. She sings with such musicianship and drama that she more than compensates. She truly was great, and beautiful. Thank you Franzhun!

  • This hag was soooooo ugly and she cannot sing.

  • @belmanotre = If you dislike Callas, you shouldn't bother listening to her. What she had ---- you couldn't spell.
