With Exhorder, I can see what you mean, but I don't think they "ripped it off". Pantera were definitely original enough, hence their success and huge reputation. Yeah they used to be a glam band, but Phil Anselmo decided to incorporate more of a thrash/hardcore influence due to his admiration of bands like Crowbar and Black Flag and 80s thrash bands.

As for Mike Patton, he wasn't particularly famous or innovative before Cowboys From Hell in 1990 anyway, and they still sound nothing alike.
