i miss home so much! and to all my fellow Batswana, just for once stop complaining nd be proud of ur country! it was good Jill played the major role, u think if it was a motswana it will b well know nd distributed?? cumon now guys! good work to all the cast! I love Botswana, my Botswana, mamaland!
i think tht movie is shit!!. so wat if its jill scott actin the role as the # 1 detective.. i min Batswana ba teng hu r jus as much capable of playin tht role.. & yeah holliwood is fuckd up they like stereotyping other countries..
why do batswana likes 2 complain whn white pipo shows the fucked up part of the country! c'mon! we know we gat better parts of the country! lets kip it 2 our self! and let dam go 2 the dry lands!!
People I live in Gaborone, it's not that dusty. That's the rural areas of Botswana. We have clubs and everything. Come to Botswana and see what I'm talking about. I hate that all they show is dust and donkeys.

where botswana government get money from to co finance movie? i wan to know aint nothin else in the country need to be done? holloywwod HBO and BBC have enough money to make that damn movie the gov't never need to contribute
Please don't you think this is better than watching Hollywood portraying Africa as backward continent, am African and i think it would bring tourism to the country therefore big up to the the Botswana government and people. pay tribute where tribute is due
Botswana is a middle income country. High levels of AIDS yes, but still middle income. In any case, it brings tourism which is always good, and if the government didn't pay they would have no say in what goes into the movie, which meant that botswana culture might not be portrayed accurately or positively, or the producers might go to a cheaper part of Africa since western audiences wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
I didnt expect perfection for a t.v show....but as long as the role was believable...i was satifeid...it didnt have to be perfect...just a movie people that is all
i so much miss home!! but the movie is sooo wrong people, that is not Botswana today that is not Gaborone today...where are the tall flats and wide roads, traffic lights, beautiful people of mamaland!
im a motswana 2 baby!but dont get it wrong.the movie is about what u saw!not the buildings........but why did they get HER for that extra part?not just an ordinary motswana!my mom would have been perfect:)nice look for botswana!im proud
mayb its about time Botswana and Africa @ large e sa approve dilo tse dingwe...the picture pple have abt Africa (which is so wrong) will never b corrected! i min for long ga re bolo go supa seAfrica sa bogologolo its about time we say Africa Today....! le gone ther are so many talented pple with humour 2 have taken part in this movie...i feel bitter
I lived in Botswana for 10 years before returning to India...and i love Alexander Mcall Smith's books...they're so simply put and so realistic as well! Can't wait to see this movie!
The CNN reporter Robyn Curnow was my neighbour in Johannesburg a few years ago when she worked as a news reader for the South African Broadcasting Corporation. She's so sweet...
Kante ha nne ba kare "A one village in Botswana" nne ba tla a bo ba sentseng??????????????????????????????????????????????????? I thoght i will see Gc...bt...i saw donkeys which i only see in my home village and NEVER in GC...and they claim its set in Gab City, and stress that its tha capital!!!???? The idea is cool, even thou i feel Batswana actors could have done much much much beter...jus search for "Tinto" now...or atleast ha nne ba bua skgoa thru out.
i did not expect to enjoy this film as much as i did. i cried a few happy tears because i thought it was so brilliant and entertaining and funny and touching, and i cry when i experience something good. probably quite far removed from reality and excellent for that reason. do people from botswana think that jill dod a good job with the accent?
well she was good with accent, but i feel bitterness, that part was gonna b good if it was taken by a Motswana sister..and onething to highlight, the setting is wrong, that is not wat u wil see in Bots today, mayb a 100yrs ago!
she was!but sounded too zimbabwean dont u think?the setting was spot on!it should not be too morden.accordin to the book?but i feel u atleast they should have put botswana today on the dvd bonuses!to show THEM....they dont care about that i bet.....imagine how that ntsoro guy was gonna fit for the bk character!atleast desma was jills stand in!
sHE IS PERFECT~ It isn't supposed to be a documentary is it. It would not have the same audience if it weren't for Jill scott. She is EXCELLENT in the role. Period.
Film just finished. It was brilliant! Beautifully made, well directed and great cast! I hope this comes out on DVD. Would be great to watch this again.
I understand what you're saying, 100% but i don't ever see it as a minus when someone....no matter who, takes time to tell an uplifting, thought provoking, and sensitive stories, about black africans...i applaud whomever does it.
i'm not saying its a negative. of course, i applaud this work. what i said was it's too bad that something thought provoking and uplifting is not being produced and developed by africans. its certainly not that africans cannot. africans are on screen, but whose behind it? that's the perpetual debate in hollywood and all around the world when it comes to media. so, yes, this is a beginning, but we'd be kidding ourselves if applauding this was the end.
Batswana the happy people..i Luv my country! cant wait to go back..Jill, The Batswana will never 4get you..Come back again 4 the next movie n um goona be part of it!!..Bots love..
ive been reading some reviews on those books apparently it was a bestselling super hit....where was i?? I cant wait to see it....looks refreshing plus i no nothing about Botswana...oh and I luv Jill Scott too
Wow! I've read the book, and didn't know there was a movie! MUST WATCH - Hey, I'm beginning to think Botswana is Africa's sucess story, even though I've never been there! I wish all we other African countries could emulate their style. Go Bots!
Jill in a Minghella film. Can't wait. Jill Definitely has screen presence. I think she will be an exceptional actor. Prediction. The film will be a hit and catapult Jill into moviestardom. Big ups 2 whoever cast her in the role.
Oh thank you for sharing this! Jill's comment about "enjoyable" weight gain was so cute. Looking forward to this(didn't know Anika was in the cast). Best wishes to Jill and co., this has the makings of a promising film!
Funny how they can't spell Trevor's name - he's a Zambian, and it's Mwaamba.
