  • man this is it! need i say more?

  • In 1967 attended a Blues show with John Lee Hooker & Jimmy Reed.. Reed was A no show Hooker played two sets waiting for Reed to show. Finally Reed came out dead drunk being supported by Mama and another.Sat him down strapped on his guitar and harmonica. Mama whispered in his ear. He raised up his head, sat upright and played like only Jimmy Reed can do.never missed a beat. blew the crowd away. Got a standing ovation.WHAT A PERFORMER

  • Damn! I'd forgotten how good this sounds. I'm getting old. For me, music/song is all about the noise it makes (@scholion's "really do"stand out""). I just finished compiling a top 20 of the best noises that I have heard over the last 55 years (since I started paying attention) and this should have been in there. Now I might have to change my list. Well, perhaps I should squeeze it in somewhere and stretch it to top 30.

  • Excellent

    Grandma mary

  • Me too.

  • Musically speaking, I was born in the wrong decade.

  • Great song !!....Nice upbeat blues feel....great harp playing.....

  • my soul has been blessed! no cussin, no sex, no self proclaimed "gangsta's" . just good ol Jimmy and his harp! have mercy

  • In his autobiography,Keith Richards says ther are track where you can here Jimmy Reed's wife whispering himsome lyrics. Can someone tell me which are they?

  • @gahan101 i'm nervous, and down in missippi are 2, but there are a few more. sorry about the spelling. His wife was lovingly known in the industry as Momma Reed. I am so grateful i was raised on this music, thanks Daddy.

  • Great dance music, any one do the push?

  • @minnomouse1 Extremely sexy, yet subtle, and my favorite dance ever. I'm not as good as my parents were (they were EXCELLENT and could put on a show), but yes, I can push. It's rare that I come across anyone who's even heard of the push.

  • Jimmy Reed, blow your reed in heaven!

  • THE MAN!! Love Jimmy!!

  • @ groovetown1503 Thanks a lot for postin it! At least, I bought the Jimmy Reed " the essetial big boss man". 74 Songs, and i love it... Keep that Blues alive! Greets from a Swiss Bluesman!

  • The riffs...; the man inspired Keef, no doubt..

  • Jimmy Reed..Hero !! An absolute classic song..truly beautiful !! Puts the world in perspective..& keeps on doin' it !! Peace xx

  • This is the bollocks.

  • its a shame we had to lose our great talents at such young ages. unappreciated!!!

  • Oh yeah, good good blues song.

  • Wonder where Dylan got from a buck 6 from??

  • Good God, and Buddha, what a talent... I could and have listened to

him 10 hours at a time... One of the few, that I can do that with... The

only man, or artist I have on my radio system of my cross country Hog... He has spent many a mile with me...

  • It's a shame, shame, shame that some people have never heard this song. RIP Jimmy.

  • All you need....is Jimmy Reed

  • Also love how most of his songs end with a musial fadout...Really smart engineering for his sound. Tunes just resonate long after they're over...

  • THE TRUTH!!

  • I listen to all sorts of music from Italian Renaissance operas to gangsta rap.

There is no such thing as poor or worthless music and I'm happy to be aware of this truth, but some pieces really do "stand out". This song is such an example.

This is music like it should be.

    RIP Jimmy Reed.

  • marvelous

  • repetition at it's best,

    merci

  • Why do they leave Jimmy Reed out of all these PBS "Blues of the 60's and 70's" ? I do not give to PBS except when the IRS gives them my tax money.

Come on Jimmy is the greatest!

  • @msanthropez That's the "problem" with Jimmy Reed lol. He's the alpha and omega, all you need to know about cool in one guy. IMHO

  • @msanthropez I agree 1000% Jimmy Reed is the greatest..

  • I LIKE

  • oh cool :)

  • aint that the truth!

  • the Stones should cut his family in for some royalties, their first five albums wouldn't exist without Reed.

  • @sportsmediaamerica

I agree. You can really hear his influence in a lot of their early stuff on both guitar and harmonica.

  • @sportsmediaamerica The Stones ripped this off completely for "Little by Little."

  • Al you need....is Jimmy Reedl

  • Al you need....is Jimmy Reed

  • I was 14 in 1970 when I first heard a Jimmy Reed song and have been a fan ever since.

  • This is great! It has that simple guitar and driving rhythm section abit like 'Oh! Yeah' by the Shadows of Knight. Both those songs inspired Bowie, T.Rex ,etc. Listen to 'Rebel, Rebel': straight out of 'Oh!Yeah' with a bit of Jimmy Reed!

  • This is great! It has that 'Shadows of Knight' rhythm and driving rhythm section. This, like 'Oh! Yeah' by the SoK was the foundation of all the Bowie, T.Rex,etc stuff. Listen to 'Jean Genie' or 'Rebel, Rebel': straight out of 'Oh!Yeah' with a bit of Jimmy Reed.

  • Jimmy Reed at his best, but Just Jimmy Reed, the album will always be his best....

  • This song seems to be the favorite one of the Jimmy Reed videos I've posted. Thanks for the comments. I hope to post more of Jimmy in the near future.

  • all these old sides by Jimmy Reed are just awesome

thanks whoever put this up, sound quality is just great too (for YT)

  • I got hip too Jimmy Reed in '08

  • Jimmy Reed - the master of the shuffle

  • Aw, thanks for posting this great song. Fantastic song AND vocal.

  • some of the critics are a little tough on jimmy - but, despite what they say, he laid down some great jam...

  • He was a great singer / songwriter / guitarist / harp player, and he will be remembered among the Blues greats!

  • Music is simple. There's Blues and then there's Not-Blues. Blues rules. Jimmy was a very special talent.

  • Love it!

  • They did a kind of homage to this on episode 5 of "Treme" (May 2010), and I had to track down the original. Fantastic. "Treme's" version was Shame, shame, shame on you, now, W. :^)

  • Eddie Taylor with the little riff on top along with the Jimmy Reed basic groove is a magical combo but whenever Reed played a session he created magic.

  • That's the stuff! Thanks. Between Reed, Berry and Waters, the Stones made a career. Nothin' beats the original!

  • Jimmy Rox!

  • this is some good sh!t and its a shame shame shame he aint playing anymore.

  • lol the Statistic made me al little bit proud of my generation ^^ most popular: male 13 -17

by the way really cool song with a cool groove xD
