I'm a New Yorker and I wish we USAians weren't so allergic to languages other than English. This song is about ten thousand times better (writing and performance) than anything written in English for Broadway in the past 25 years, and yet nobody in the USA has even heard of it. Can't wait to hear the rest of the show! Also - in terms of musical convention, a trio for three male voices is unusual, and very beautiful. Love this!

Some say that Quasimodo prays to Lucifer, offering his soul, if the devil lets him touch Esmeralda's hair.I interpret it differently. Quasimodo says that when he sees Esmeralda dancing, it is as if hell opens under his feet (hell is a connection with Lucifer. So it is as if Lucifer is torturing him etc). So when Quasimodo says 'Oh Lucifer, please let me, just once, run my fingers through her hair' it is a request to lessen his suffering a bit. I don't think he means that Esmeralda is Lucifer O_o
