At 1:37, when the pilot leaves the pit and start his acceleration, he immediately shifts to second THEN he accelerates to full RPM. Would he be better instead to accelerate on first gear then start his shifts to higher gears ?

@ve2zzz Drivers leaving the pits don't always want to stress the engine at full capacity upon take off, and starting from stationary with that much power through fragile components can damage parts of the engine or drive train. Kicking straight up to second doesnt put as much torsional stress upon take off for anything thats not a race start.

It was just announced that all Formula One teams

will be using 2 cylinder diesel engines in 2014.

Regulations have required the 2 cylinder diesel engines

which will rev to a limit of 3600 RPM and must have

normally-aspirated units.The FIA say we need to move on and

show that Formula One is moving on in a fuel-efficiency age.

A knock-on effect of that is that it’s going to get a little bit slower ,

top speed 76MPH and 0-60 in 43 seconds.
