  • Me & Hubby live in Vancouver, Canada, and though there are some restaurants that cater to middle eastern food, none of them are really all that authentic. So I'm so so glad I found your channel, the recipes are so easy to follow and they're all delicious. Takes us back home!..Thanks so much for that :)

  • First-time poster, just found your awesome site this week. I made this shawarma tonight by itself (no bread) to accompany some homemade soup, and WOW did we all enjoy it! I didn't have cardamom, so I substituted another 1/4 tsp of 7 Spice for it. I also left out the salt, and none of us missed it. Finally, I used a 50-50 mixture of lemon and lime juice vs. all lemon. We will make this often - THANK YOU!

  • @bewitchednour that's exactly why I came up with my site...all ethnic mothers are like that, they don't write down recipes, so I decided to do it to help us all out :)

  • can this be done without yougurt? or changed with something

  • @AndGz7 yes, if you can't have yogurt, you can just eliminate it and add 2 more tablespoons of lemon juice :)

PS- Your website is Awesome!! Peace & Love!!

  • @BoxOramaFitness Another fool proof GARLIC RECIPE, here it goes:

    -2 cups peeled garlic

    -1 cup lemon juice

    -6 cups canola oil

    -1 tbs salt

...Blend up the garlic and salt until minced, slowly start to add and alternate the oil and lemon juice, you will end up with a nice mayonnaise consistency and this batch will last for up to a month in a sealed container in the refrigerator.

THis recipe is pretty much fool proof and tastes great :)

  • i am sorry for bothering u, but jus a query ..again... is cayenne pepper = chilli..i am not a pro, so jus wanted to know.. wats the difference between them and can i use chili powder.. or are they both the same!!

  • @shakeenida you can use chilli powder, they are both spicey but they are different peppers but very similar. You can use chilli powder if you do not have cayenne pepper :)

  • do you know where i can get pickled turnips online? I'm not paying $10 a jar on amazon :/ and I can find them in Nashville (I'm from Dearborn originally).

  • @jilly9 i will be putting this recipe out very soon :)

  • Hey Dede,

That SHawarma looks great. I was wondering if you could substitute the Greek Yogurt with something else more commonly found in supermarkets?

I couldn't find it at your website either.

THanks and keep up the great work!!!

  • @jntyrhds if you can't find Greek yogurt then just use regular plain yogurt, it will taste great too :)

  • can u please write down the spices?

i could'nt hear them right lol i think the ad before ur video got into my head!!!

  • @xMiSzUniQuEx the written recipe is on my site :)

  • @dedemed thanks i made them and its so delicious! yum yum

  • @xMiSzUniQuEx good job :)

  • Thanks dedemed for the response. I'll figure it out and get it done!

  • @reg59 no problem, i'm here to help :)

  • What are the best pickles for shawarma? I live in Charlotte, NC and I want to make this next weekend and I can't find kabees. Help!

  • @reg59 I would say the best pickles, if you can't find Middle eastern ones, are plain or dill pickles. Try checking out a Greek, Turkish or Lebanese grocery store, they should have kabees in a jar or can :)

  • I'm going to give this recipe a try! Michigan eh? My favorite restaurant that served shawarma is on W. Warren @ Greenfield. I'm sure you know the area!

  • @reg59 Michigan all the way :)

  • hey i was at a mates parents house and like all of us europeans u cant leave without being fed up for the kill and his mum made chadra im not sure on the spelling but i would love to find the recipe for it its with split peas

  • @keenasmustard2010 I think that is actually an Indian dish not a Mediterranean dish, but I'm sure if you try my shawarma recipe you will love it, especially with my garlic sauce or tahini sauce

  • Dedemed you are really actually my didi (Sister)

  • what would happen if i used vinegar as a marinate instead of yogurt?

  • @FromSouthforkTexas you can definitely add a little vinegar if you can't use yogurt, it will be fine and taste good. I would recommend adding only 2 tbs though.

  • The shwarma turned out to be perfect :) thanks

  • wow that looks good...fedex some to me :)

  • this looks delicious however you wrote the name wrong in the second part of the title

  • @sselerac thanks I just fixed it :)

  • thanks for this, definitely gonna try it when i get home :D

what bread do restaurants use though? dont think its pitta bread, it's quite thin and they use two on one shawarma

  • @joecartagena Hey Joe, actually you can use any bread you like but yes traditionally the chicken shawarma sandwich is made with pita bread. you can find this recipe and the pita bread recipe on my site :)

  • @dedemed lol joe, feels weird being called that, with my name being Irfan and all :P I went to this Lebanese place and they were using Mediteranean (sp?) bread or something like that. It was very thin so they used two

  • ummmmmmmmm I am drawling

also you can make it more moister if you boiled the chicken breasts then torn then in to tine stripes add vinegar it will be totally awesome

  • @faisal1979m actually if you boil the chicken it will be more dry, try my recipe, you will like it, the written recipe is on my site :)

  • @dedemed yes you right thats why i said to put vinegar then close the mixture to have extra moistuer

  • My stomach is burning... With hunger for this @.@

  • wowwwwwww! like it

  • OMGsh i love shawarma :D

  • hi, your recipe is very good, i loved it. i happened to have the shawerma machine, can you tell how to make beef shawerma the way they make it in resturants, what kind of meat and how to stack'em the way they do. i'm thinking to impress my guest someday, oh and how long do you cook it. thank you

  • @jenawy check out the beef shawarma recipe on my site. Instead of cutting them into strips, just layer the flap meat on the shawarma stand :)

  • that looks amazing i am going to make it tomorrow

  • darling i made this recipe it is so simple and it turned out beautiful. my dad loved it he went crazy for it lolll. thank u so much.

  • how to make garlic sauce???????????

  • @captshadab check out my garlic sauce recipe on my site :)

  • @ifeboy1 in windsor, ontario, right across from Detriot, 75% of all the restaurants are Shwarma restaurants

  • i like how passionate you are in your videos. got me craving mediterranean food :D im gonna make falafel tomorrow

  • she's pretty. shawarma is good too.

  • Looks like a great recipe I can't wait to try it. The only thing I noticed is that you marinated the mix in a metal bowl. I read somewhere that you shouldn't marinade with an acid such as lemon juice as it can cause a chemical reaction that would make the food taste bad. Great vid keep em coming.

  • Dede I love ur reciepies please don't stop cause u are doing an excellant job thank you

  • yummy ....you are soo good and this stuff! why dont you join foodnetwork?? seriouslyyy like you would be the perfect chef there mayne!! =]
