@MrRldc you can get waivers if you had a tattoo before you joined if it covers more then 20% of any body part excluding Head, neck and hands, which i believe are not allowed no matter what.
@anerres You DAMN straight!!! I've NEVER doubted the U.S. Army is ABSOLUTELY the best, NEVER for a second!!! Go U.S. Army!!!!!! I really meant the U.S. Military is beyond being the best....But for me, the U.S. Army is MY favorite!!!!
To everybody conplainung about the head being up.... No iys not required, but 1: it helps you breathe better & 2: it's a mind trick to help you go lower.. Your brain tels you to stop if you're looking down so you don't smack your face.. It's not required but it's a good practice.
Finally a video that shows how it should be done. Thank you gentlemen. He was actually doing more pushups than they counted. He had to do 3 to to count for 1. Ugh. Hats off to you guys!
Sgt Called me out today in FST for not keeping my head up. Do I have to keep my head up for the PT test? I think it's a lot harder for me to do them with my head up, and I have long arms so pushups suck as it is.
@kambelzful They have no emotion ON THE JOB. In the military, we believe that there's a time to be serious, and it's not all the time. When I first joined the Army, I thought everybody there would be bland as hell. Quite the contrary, Army people (I haven't met too many from other services) are some of the funniest people I've ever met in my life.
@loqutor There is a time to be serious, but not a time to have NO EMOTION. Most of the ones I have met have no emotion, don't look you in the eye, and everything is about life and death, and when they aren't even on the job. Some of the younger ones that go for just 1-2 years come back with no emotions as well.
@Wolfen126 Just keep at it. Don't do them every day, but rather a few times a week. After a few weeks, push yourself to do a some more than you did previously, & then maintain that level. Keep repeating this cycle & you'll soon see gains. I find the same concept works with running, weights, & anything else requiring consistency. I myself slacked off for a long time, but back in the game for two weeks I can do 50-60 push-ups a minute (30 with a 70lb. ruck). I'm doing 200 with a 20lb. vest today.
@ChelVannin ya but you always see new officers fresh out of school and they cant do anything in combat. so i want to know how to be a soldier before i become and officer
It's called "SMP," AKA Simultaneous Membership Program. Basically, if you're going to go to college, you can join the national guard while being in ROTC. Thus, you will be a soldier in the national guard while in college, and once you graduate, you will be an officer.
Keep in mind (for those of you that are freaked out about PT test) you do not have to do 4 count pushups for your PT test at the start of Basic. You will be doing 2 count (down, up is 1). This is 4 count which is only used for training. It forces you to stay in cadence (in sync with the rest of the group).
@88Oneill "In Cadence" it means flow or in sync. When soldiers march they sing cadences to make a beat so their feet it the ground on the beat. (though most cadences are hilarious and it's hard to not laugh while doing them.. IE bearded ninja or whips and chains)
i like his almost robot likeness, this looks like a regular push up to me course idk everyone who ever showed me or told me to do a push up have been some kind of ex-military
Ill admit im not in the best of shape im 17. I play games a hella lot and im outa school. May sound stupid but this is helping me get into shape befor I join the marines.
@TheOdinistman ya im 16 trying to get into the canadian army and ive been doing push ups and sit ups everynight then run 3 times a week ( run 5 km ) and that will get me ready for basic training
@gav624 Me too, man. I'm joining the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment in Ontario. It's a Reserve regiment for the Army. When I'm out of school, I'm going reg-force. I, too, have been doing push-ups and sit-ups every night and I gained a lot of muscle. I'm also biking almost everyday and doing jumping jacks. I KNOW Basic will be absolutely tough on me because I'm kind of a chubby dude but I've never tried at anything so damn hard, ever. :D
@gav624 Awesome. I know nothing else but the Military, I cannot stand any other job. I just wanna go straight in, though, I don't wanna be an officer just yet. I wanna feel what it's like to be a grunt for a while. >:)
@TheMeanSgtPlaysPiano ya thats why i plan on doing reserves till im done high school so i know how to be a soldier before an officer but anyways man good luck in your future and serve our country well
@TheMeanSgtPlaysPiano It will be good for you. Being a grunt will help you respect the people you will be comanding when you're an officer and your men with love you for it. Nobody likes getting told what to do by a first year Lieutenant.
@TheOdinistman I'm 17, out of school and play games a fuck ton too. XD I'm Canadian so I'm trying to get into the Canadian Army. It's pretty tough but I KNOW that it couldn't compare to USMC training. I freaking love the USMC, man. If I was American, that's where I'd be. :D I prefer the Marines over Army any day. Good luck, mate.
@SilenceSlayer224 I did cry my eyes out once in basic, but there were no drill Sgt's around to see me. The funny thing is there were lots of guys around who saw me, but not one said anything bad to be about it and some comforted me. The next time I cryed like that was on September 11th 2001.
@kraigthorne Yeah, it doesn't matter how tough you are (or think you are) basic will break you. It's all mind over matter. I think I've seen more jocks cry in basic than nerds. People seem to think they can just go in and act tough and get through it... WRONG. They're pretty much Gestapo tactics, but I wouldn't trade that training for anything.
@supremo502 4 counts are not counted as one for the PT tests. It is just the reps you do. You will either be a smart private or a strong private, I will let you figure that one out on your own...
Im getting in shape for bootcamp, and i find pushups are by far the hardest thing to get better at. the situps for me was more of just getting used to it, and endurance. but with pushups, when i hit my max my muscles simply do not work. So yes i have to work on that.... any tips? id appreciate it
i have a question? why he became qualified if he is have a tatto.
