@Traildraft That's my problem. My horse is 16.1 and I'm only about 2 inches taller. If I fall off on the trail while riding bareback, I'm screwed. That's it, have a nice walk home. But I don't see myself being able to do that! D:
I used to be able to swing up, but I had a horse accident 3 years ago and have a titanium rod plates and screws holding my left leg together. I still ride, but mounting really hurts!!
wow i ride bareback western and english, and i need a stepping stool to get on (bareback) i tried jumping on and ended up falling lol if i try this im sure ill fall lol
After months of thought- I gave this a try on my 17h TB mare last night. I did manage to squirrel my way up there twice- but it was HARD! I just had her loose in the roundpen and she was an ANGEL! I'll keep practicing and if I ever nail it I'll send a video.
Do you still have the tutorial video up - the one with spoken instructions? I can't find it. This one just has music. Impressive demonstrations, just the same. Thank you.
No, actually it's better for them than yanking your saddle sideways and twisting their back when you try pulling yourself up off the ground with stirrups. This way doesn't involve so much twisting on the spine.
haha! that was like they were re-winding a person getting off! it was sooooo graceful. i gotta learn how. somehow i dont think my horse would agree though... :D
my mare is 15hh and I'm very short. I've been trying to do this forever and I still can't do it without a spotter helping me up. She isn't even that tall! lol
I'm just going to have to watch this a million times, then practice a million times before I can do it like this. I can do it, but not this well. I just wonder if I would be able too - I'm only 5'3, but then again a lot of jockeys are even shorter than me. So I guess I shouldn't complain.
how the bloody hell can you do that? i cant even do that on my 14.1hh pony and shes half the size of all these!!
but doesnt it hurt the horse, if you do it too hard? my pony has very high withers and a dipped back so i ALWAYS use a mounting block, because i dont want to hurt her.
and you said dont try this at home, but ive seen loads of people doing this
i might try this.... i have a welshie..... shes only 12hh. BTW, does it hurt their back.... shes never had any back problems and is very healthy else where but im scared of creating one and i get worries about mounting her too hard...
Nah, its not too bad if you dont do it like, everyday. Maybe if thats how you ALWAYS mounted up. But a once in a while fun trick is perfectly fine. Assuming you are not too big for her and you dont like, kill her by doing it. =D (my moms a vet)
The humor is exceptional. Took me a bit to catch on to the call from Pat. You are a really hard sell to pass as Japanese though mister.

LMAO. Start with a mini. Pat. Spider man. The googles. 21 hands. Almost peed my pants laughing. My horse is 16.2 and I can swing up on him (though not as pretty as you), I'll have to post a video response :)
omg spiderman.... lawl man.. my PONY is only 14hh I cant do that bareback. mostly cuz it scares him and he runs away. but my dressage saddle has such a high back. whatever.
and shetland pony? lol i hate ponies... they turn around and bite.
you shouldnt say to not try this at home, its not likes its dangerous. in a tack stall where you did the swing up is dangerous but out in an arena with a horse you know, not dangerous

Hey Endo, I finally did the swing up on our 14.2hh pony Buttercup! Hey... its a start, haha. My goal is to make it up to the 17.2hh Clydesdale.. um, maybe.. we'll see..

Well in that case you need more close-up vids without those goggles on! lol.
PS I tried the swing-up on a 14.3hh horse I was free leasing but ive got a broken back so my flexibility is nil :( Furthest I got was bruising my calf muscles on the cantle lol. And now I've got a 16.3hh TB off the track with a sensitive back... Uh oh! haha
by the way this was the only way i could get on my horse bareback after i fell off in the middle of a paddock without having to walk her about a km to get on from a log lol so for that i thank you
hm ok thanks! ha ha i am going to try it today..oh and i loved your video on rearing! i tried doin the same sort of thing on a pony who was a chronic rearer, but i chickened out at about the fifth rear and got off!!but after watching you i may try again, as i am pretty sure this pony knows what they are doing and is not gonna flip! and love the pants lol
how hard is this on the horses back? im not saying its bad that you do this or anything, Im just curious as to if i practiced mounting this way every other day for say a month, would it have any detrimental effects versus regular mounting?
ok everyone pay attention, the hip has to comeup higher than your upperbody!!! i have studyed the mechanics carefully,(ihave no life!)watch the master and dont fight it!! sorry paul, they needed help:)
even 20 yrs ago working in Racing and light as a feather i couldnt master a swing up lol. spose I don't stand a chance now being 39 and not 'so' light. I just don't have any 'Spring'. Any idea's Endo? short of becoming Zebedee.
ARGH! Quick Time NOT supported by Movie Maker... Getting 'old' really does suck! Back to the beginning... May have to borrow a vid camera. This challenge has been a challenge sure enough. :~)
u no how u say that u just need to get ur leg onto the other side of the saddle? one of my friends tried this and ended up on the ground on the other side of the horse lol
Hey, Endo. Only 2 responses? What's up with that? I've been working at this. Found out my dinosaur camera will do a 15 sec vid... gelding thinks I've lost my mind clinging on his side like Spiderman. Heeeee, heeeee! Could try a shorter horse but he's the steadiest. Maybe we'll have success tomorrow... this getting 'old' sucks!
does anyone realize tht games always serve a purpose?! if u get it - great, u may need it someday, not the day in the ring!! listen to the man, he's way better than most of us!!! hi Endo----
Ya know, at one time I tried this with my 16 hand gekding Thunder, and I ALLLmost made it. I gave myself a little extra step with a 4" block, and got over. Now that I have Rio at 14.2HH, I'll give this a go, and see if I can get my wife to video tape for a response.
Should be funny when I go completely over and land on my face! Watch for it!
yep, once you can do this on the big ones you can fly over the little ones and land on the other side without touching the saddle..you will get a strange look from your horse though...lol
You are just too cool and too funny. I will try this swing thing just as soon as I can wrestle my bad boy Norman to the ground in that sleeper hold (TAP)....Give my regards to Pat!
What is the point of this?? Using a mounting block would keep you from yanking on the saddle so much. I don't understand why this would be preferred. It is cool to watch though!
I guess if you can't find anything to stand on this will get you out of a jam. Of course a guy would think of something like this to accommodate the need to pee in the middle of nowhere! :-P
Hey-how did you know we wanted this??? I have a new mare that's only 14.3, so maybe when she gets over being scared of her own shadow we'll try it. I have a gelding who would stand there all day while I practised, but he's 16 HH. Any more pointers for getting their trust other than bringing them to the ground? My mare is also PG, so I don't want to stress her overly. Anyway, the instruction is great, and I could do that 30 years ago, but haven't tried lately. Thanks!!!-Cathy
So you have used the stirrup to mount your horse every single time ? Even bareback when you don't have a stirrup? oh please..If this scares you, you need a new hobby.. Also becareful when you walk down the street next time, there is still a the risk of a box of TAMPAX falling from the sky and landing on your head..Dangerous world we live in..
Good one there Endo!!! LOL Gotta love the humor and action. I think I'll stick to short critters being older then dirt and a bit short and round. I used to be able to do the from behind vault on as wellas the swing up mount but age, arthritis and gravity make that more then just a sporting challenge now days LOL.. I appriciate watching it being done though and truly relish your cutting eged humor ROFLMAO...
However did Pat P get your number? Haha! I use to be great at this when I was a kid... also could vault from behind.. wouldnt try THAT on one of my TB's though... I may have to try it again now that I'm older, I can start on our 10 hand pony!
Hehe I am with moonlight. Similar vintage but not as old as Mr HP. I used to be able to swing up 25 years ago but these days I would struggle if I even had to mount from the ground with a stirrup :) Now I want to see some video responses to this on everyones efforts. That in itself should be very entertaining.
You won't see mine though. That would be way too tragic. Keep it up Endo. Love your work! :)
Nice work there on the new vid. It sure is getting a lot of hits. I bet Pat is at home watching it over and over, being your wing man is a tall order (so to speak). I can't wait to see the vid responses, I may have to drive the hour to see my horse just to post my own response. Lets do it people, we owe him a bit of entertainment in return no?
Aw darn Pinky. I did it backwards, I started bareback (yep even kicked the pony in the rump too!) I still havnt done it with a saddle, Just been doing it bareback. Im behind the times.
enough with the talking already I can't lip read lol

ARGH! Quick Time NOT supported by Movie Maker... Getting 'old' really does suck! Back to the beginning... May have to borrow a vid camera. This challenge has been a challenge sure enough. :~)
filly4billy2002 4 years ago
Hi Julz, go to yahoo or google and type "MPEG4 to AVI" and download some software to convert your footage so the movie maker can pick it up.
endospink 4 years ago
Did I tell you what a 'GEM' you truly are?
Will give that a go...
TNX, Endo! :~)

What kind of vest do you wear?
I'm probably sticking to my mounting block but...but I sure wish I could do that! But my big horse is 17hh!

Kevlar...lol
It by a Japanese maker called DESCENTE but I think you can get them over there..

Hey, Endo. Only 2 responses? What's up with that? I've been working at this. Found out my dinosaur camera will do a 15 sec vid... gelding thinks I've lost my mind clinging on his side like Spiderman. Heeeee, heeeee! Could try a shorter horse but he's the steadiest. Maybe we'll have success tomorrow... this getting 'old' sucks!
filly4billy2002 4 years ago

There ya be ... Fortunately I used the Jeffrey method with Rio some time ago, so a nutcase hopping up and down around him is nothing new.
Do note the amazing protective headgear though. Sorry, I couldn't take ALL your style tips. I'd be too much of a copy cat. lol
artroland 4 years ago
Ya know, at one time I tried this with my 16 hand gekding Thunder, and I ALLLmost made it. I gave myself a little extra step with a 4" block, and got over. Now that I have Rio at 14.2HH, I'll give this a go, and see if I can get my wife to video tape for a response.
Should be funny when I go completely over and land on my face! Watch for it!
artroland 4 years ago
yep, once you can do this on the big ones you can fly over the little ones and land on the other side without touching the saddle..you will get a strange look from your horse though...lol
endospink 4 years ago
I think u are so totally cool! hehe
I used to able to do this! but ummmm i put on a bit of (chubba) since.
When i get a new horse ill give it a try and ill let ya know how i went. Hehe thanks KiMMi
P.s say hi to pat 4 me!
logogal 4 years ago
You are just too cool and too funny. I will try this swing thing just as soon as I can wrestle my bad boy Norman to the ground in that sleeper hold (TAP)....Give my regards to Pat!
normanthehorse 4 years ago
What is the point of this?? Using a mounting block would keep you from yanking on the saddle so much. I don't understand why this would be preferred. It is cool to watch though!
MustangManda94GT 4 years ago
Probably because u can't take you mountaing block on a ride with you to get back on when you get off to pee....
endospink 4 years ago
I guess if you can't find anything to stand on this will get you out of a jam. Of course a guy would think of something like this to accommodate the need to pee in the middle of nowhere! :-P
MustangManda94GT 4 years ago
It's cool, you won't need be able to jump on your horse if fall off near a mounting block everytime and never venture out on a trail ride..

Thanks!!!-Cathy

wow tried that on my arab....lets just say she didnt stand still

Cool, this only backs up what I say about the blue tarp being a waste of time. If the tarp and desensiting works, your horse should'nt move..
Anything new must be introduced to your horse at a pace your horse can understand.
endospink 4 years ago
real freakin smart .. fall on your head and get trampled and then see how much fun that is
sarritta 4 years ago
So you have used the stirrup to mount your horse every single time ? Even bareback when you don't have a stirrup? oh please..If this scares you, you need a new hobby.. Also becareful when you walk down the street next time, there is still a the risk of a box of TAMPAX falling from the sky and landing on your head..Dangerous world we live in..
endospink 4 years ago
and ya wanna hope the TAMPAX doesn't go thru a rain cloud on the way down...lol

Good one there Endo!!! LOL Gotta love the humor and action. I think I'll stick to short critters being older then dirt and a bit short and round. I used to be able to do the from behind vault on as wellas the swing up mount but age, arthritis and gravity make that more then just a sporting challenge now days LOL.. I appriciate watching it being done though and truly relish your cutting eged humor ROFLMAO...
IMHO Pat could learn a LOT from you..
Laterzzzzzzzz.... I've got ponies to feed.

RenegadeSpiritCat 4 years ago

Eireamon 4 years ago
Nice work there on the new vid. It sure is getting a lot of hits. I bet Pat is at home watching it over and over, being your wing man is a tall order (so to speak). I can't wait to see the vid responses, I may have to drive the hour to see my horse just to post my own response. Lets do it people, we owe him a bit of entertainment in return no?
neckpatter 4 years ago
Aw darn Pinky. I did it backwards, I started bareback (yep even kicked the pony in the rump too!) I still havnt done it with a saddle, Just been doing it bareback. Im behind the times.

Best mount I ever saw. I wonder how my gelding would tolerate it. (If I could even do it in the first place, lol!)
