In response to the 2 individuals who question whether I drew these... If anyone has any doubts as to my ability, view my video of works from "Second Semester." There are 8 pictures on that video that were originals and not lessons from the game. One picture is of my favorite country singer, Keith Whitley.

I couldn't draw a perfect circle for the apple LOL but, I got better REAL fast at drawing the stuff, I think the lime was easy but it took a lot of time, probably the easiest one is the sunset, i'm afraid to try the wave O_o and the apple and peaches one lol

@cl3angetaway Thank you! I had to redo the lime twice because I didn't like the shape of the cutaway portion of the lime. Then when I uploaded the picture of the lime to my Facebook directly from my DSi, then checked it, I noticed that it looked so much darker than it did on the DSi. So I took the picture down, uploaded the picture to picnik-dot-com and brightened the picture to bring out the colors more. Then I reposted the revised picture.

@xStalleyx Just keep at it. Do some free drawings. Experiment on mixing colors, adding water, etc. The grid tool is a VERY useful tool for making the construction drawing more manageable. It breaks it up into smaller parts. When you get more comfortable with it, your confidence will grow and you'll be more apt to try some of the more challenging lessons. Good luck!

@Bappelabs You do get a lot of tutorials, and as many chances to redo each project as you feel you need, as well as opportunities to replay each lesson. Each new project introduces a new technique and builds upon previously taught techniques. It's one of the funnest DSi apps you'll ever download. Try it! Give yourself a chance!

The concepts that are taught on these apps are all concepts that can be applied to real-life hardcopy works. For example, the lessons using "pencil" makes one aware of all the different kinds of drawing pencils available and the effects one gets with each one. Makes you wanna run right out to your favorite neighborhood Michael's to buy pencils and a nice drawing pad.

I've been playing with the idea of buying a DSi for drawing applications like Flipknote Studios and this one. After seeing your images, I am pretty convinced about this software. I'll probably buy a DSi XL with bigger screens when it's released in two months.

Did you do any post processing to your images or are they taken directly from Art Academy? I am pretty stunned about the great quality you have achieved on the little DS.

Wow, I didn't know Nintendo was coming out with a 2nd generation DSi. I didn't do anything else to these images, except on a couple of them, like the lily & the lime, I imported those to picnik & lightened the images. But that was it. Thank you for stopping by! Glad you enjoyed the video!

Vince gives advice on what to do first, what to do second, etc., and each lesson is a culmination of all the concepts taught up to that point. At any time after you start, you can save your work and replay the lesson if you need to. There are tools you can use such as the magnifying glass icon (the zoom-in tool) and the grid tool for laying out a rough sketch, which helps with maintaining proportion. It's pretty easy. Hope that helps.

They're both on par one with the other. It's just that "Second Semester" is a culmination of all the concepts that were introduced on both, combined into a single lesson. There is a grid tool available that helps with making more detailed works more manageable and helps with maintaining proportion. There's also a zoom tool for more detail.

Wow, that's so sweet! Thank you! I just noticed that I forgot to do the mini-lesson that went with the pear, the pepper. I just finished it, and I'll post it with another video. I've been looking for other things I want to do, and when I find something I take a pic of the screen with the DSi. (For some reason, saving .jpg's to your memory card doesn't work--the DSi doesn't recognize them.) I've been practicing mixing colors for when I start "Second Semester." It's been out for a month now.

No, but once in a while the Historical Society will host an exhibit of works from local artists like Ms. Gobin, Mr. Tucker, and others. Usually the exhibits are held in the library. Berkeley Springs has all the studio tours. They cater to the DC & northern VA crowd.
