No, it just stopps the timer. Because after playing the serenade, you get a message that "you can't warp here" (normally the serenade warps you to the water temple). While this message is displayed, the timer doesn't go on.

No, this doesn't work on the marathon. Because if you use a warp song during the marathon, you will warp to the location.

This only works here, because you can't warp in "underground" areas, so the game says "you can't warp here".

No, that's not possible. The timer just stops for a moment. That's why I run a few meters and then play the song again. If you (only) play the song at the end, the timer won't go down to 0 seconds again.
