  • I certainly like the use of the bass and the percussion. the melody instrument sounds a little whiny though. using a different lead instrument for the melody will improve this song. none of the less though, you did this song quite well!

  • @figaro589:

In my defense, the original had a whiny melody as well.

  • genesis didnt actually have a "soundfont", just a programmable synth. SNES had a sampler. That's why genesis music sounds "fat" and more original.

  • Finnaly a decent remix. All the other vids on youtube with sonic songs in SNES format are horrible ear-rapingly changed glitched up remixes.

  • hill top redneck zone more like

  • SNES might have had 3d... but Genesis had the SPEED and the better SOUND FONTS.

  • Weird... I would seen this song in a ghost town, or a Conutry vilage..

  • awesome

  • Is it bad that I liked the Genesis soundfont over the SNES's?

  • Nope.

  • @GWJumpman after hearing this disgrace, no! this shit punctures my ear drums.

  • Well excuuuuuuuuuuuuse me, princess.

  • @MrBurgundy76 the original was so much better but good luck finding it with some ass taking remaking it or trying to make it themselves on some instrument when they suck

  • You should do one of Green Hill Zone!

  • This is a good demonstration of how genesis music had a greater music FX chip. Maybe Snes chip had more "realistic" samples, but it crash mixed all toghether, they just don't work, and sounds like an old and broken Amiga computer!

I never realize how SOR music could sound in Snes, because it just can't.

Sonic 2 is another good example of how to do a great music with an 16 bits fx chip!

  • This. While I do like some SNES soundtrack, the genesis just had better sounds.

  • @troysson81 no. I think it has scary, but crappier sounds.

  • Ugh, I keep hitting " like" when I wanna hit reply.

    Scary? Really?

  • @troysson81 sorta... :(

  • *smirk* Okay, sure.

  • @segadreamer Then why does CastleVania Bloodlines and Earthworm Jim 2 on Genesis sound awful?

  • Simple.

    It doesn't. :D

  • @troysson81 Compare the Genesis Doom's music with the SNES Doom's music. Which sounds better?

  • Point of the direction of some Genesis Doom and I'll tell you.

We weren't talking about Doom, though. We were talking about Castlevania Bloodines and Earthworm Jim, both of which sound awesome.

If we're gonna play that game, though, compare the awesome Spin On The bridge from Streets of Rage 2 (/watch?v=zsYcCtSgfF4&feature=related) to this SNES fan remix (/watch?v=bzoA_VAa-J0). Which sounds better?

  • @Kefka44 I think that's because of the low knowledge of the composers about the Fx chip.

SOR it's the best example, it's just awesome, Yuzo Koshiro used 100% of the potential: you can perfectly feel every bass hit, every drum and percussion, piano, guitar riffs... All mixed in a perfect and cool stereo sound, and many other details that were really imposible to do in SNES.

  • @Kefka44 Anyway Yuzo has demonstrated that genesis had a great FX chip, and if a game doesn't sound great, it's not a Genesis fault.

American programmers and composers made a really bad work in 16 bits era too... They used to program really awfull tunes that sounded as bad as distorted 80' computers, there's just a few games that had a legendary music (Lotus II, Toe Jam and Earl...), the rest were from japanese games

  • @segadreamer the SFX chip doesn't have anything to do with the sound. The SNES's Sound chip is separate from it's graphics. Then Explain why F-Zero, Megaman X, ActRaiser, Final Fantasy IV, V, VI, Chrono Trigger, Super Star Wars, Street Fighter II, and Super Metroid. all those games are in Stereo hell even Jurassic Park is in Surround Sound. I'm not really trying to argue here I'm just stating the Super NES could produce Stereo sound without using headphones.

  • @segadreamer I guess it just boils down to opinion I guess.

  • 3 people fall of the elevator

  • wow the bass sounds amaaaaazing.

  • Blech. Don't say Sonic and Mario in the same sentance. Unless, there beating eachother up or something. The two games music files should never be mixed. >.<

    This however,is an exception. Great job,troysson. 5/5.

  • neat

  • I love this remake. Thanks, troysson.

  • Oh my lord in Hell it sound so fucking out of tune it is making my ears bleed. Whoever's idea was to put Sonic the Hedgehog on the Super Nintendo is a fucking retard. Genesis FTW!

  • Whoa, someone needs to go outside. Or maybe you should talk to a doctor about those ears.

Even though I agree that it sounds better on the Genesis, this still sounds fine to me if not a bit loud.

Lastly, the names are unnecessary. How about voicing your dislike of this song without sounding like an @sshole? Okay? Okay.

  • @troysson81 THANKS MOM!!!

  • DON'T YOU RAISE YOUR VOICE AT ME, YOUNG MAN!

  • @troysson81

FOCROFL (falling out of chair rolling on the floor laughing)

  • @troysson81 What's the point of voicing your opinion if you can't sound like an asshole if you want to? Telling someone how to voice their opinion is wrong and that is truly being an asshole, not voicing one's opinion even if it may be harsh.

  • Okay then. My opinion of you? You're a prick.

    Now git.

  • BAH.

  • HUMBUG.

  • I love the Sega Genesis sound. Even if its not as realistic its still sounds better. Except in doom.....

  • @EasyGoVideos

the 32X doom was badly rushed and I mean badly, the mega drive was capable of 6 FM channels, 4 PSG channels and a PCM channel. Doom only used 3 channels for its music, enemy sprites were also missing, the sprites only showed the front of the enemies.

    /watch?v=FAVKaAJDbaI

here's what it could have been capable of

  • Baw.

  • hill top zone should be Kentucky zone =) this song has a more redneck element now

    d(^o^)b

  • IT'S MASTER SYSTEM YOU LITTLE TWAT

  • You're a Master System.

  • @troysson81 Dude, its a joke. XD

  • This is really messed up :(

  • Why do people hate this all of a sudden?

  • Bad choice of soundfonts, it doesn't work well with the song at all.

  • What do you mean? It sounds like a SNES version of Hill Top.

  • @troysson81 It's the instruments you used. Yes, it sounds like Super NES, but it sounds nothing like what a real developer would use if Sonic 2 was ported to the SNES.

  • All I had was a Super Mario world soundfont at the time.

  • This is one of the best soundtracks ever. Sooo chill.

  • This is one reason why Sega Genesis was better then SNES.

  • Now this is where the SNES failed; heavy songs. Even the SNES version of Doom fails as the guitar parts sound like bloody violins!

  • It's a singing fly!

  • Well of course.

  • @troysson81 This belongs in a menu in a SNES Game.

    -FlareTheNightmaren-

  • This is awesome...I want an MP3 Link for this!!!

  • @Pikachu4352 Video2mp3 works. :)

  • I'm guessing this is what music Yoshi chills to on a rainy day

  • @ThomasPercy99 Lol it rained today!

  • Has a yoshi's island kinda feel to it doesn't it?

  • AWESOME!!

  • omfg this actually sounds better to listen to!

  • sounds almost the same :) I don't like how the SNES sound chip was all muffled. it has good sounds but, the sound quality sounds a bit lossy. DAMN THAT SONY SPC700 CHIP! that's why I preferred the YM2612 chip which was in the mega drive.

  • @figaro589

The lossyness cames from the ADPCM compression.

  • @figaro589 You're getting confused. The megadrive soundchip had less range than the SNES, making the megadrive sounds more muffled. Compare the music from Donkey Kong Country or Streetfighter 2 to Sonic the hedgehog or Streets of Rage (just trying to remember some of the most impressive music for each system). E.g. Directly comparing the SNES to MD streetfighter 2 is a goodun. The megadrive soundchip was very restricted, although thats not to say that it didnt have charm.

  • I think he was talking about games liek Super Mario World. The instruments in that game didn't sound as lively as games like Sonic 3, Streets of Rage, etc. And SOR pushed the Genesis chip to it's limits. The SNES may have had a more advanced chip, the music sounded more lifeless. Then Donkey Kong Country came along and showed what the SNES could really do. Then you have Super Adventure Island. I'm sure there are more, but I'm not enough of a Nintendo fan to know them all.

  • @troysson81

    I'm a she

  • Oh.

  • @troysson81 In the same way that a real megadrive sounds different to emulation, the snes sounds different to emulation too! The snes had a filter that made sounds more punchy, despite being stored in a fewer number of bits. I suspect that you've been listening to snes music through emulation as opposed to the actual hardware. In contrast, megadrive emulation has allowed sounds to become clearer, although to be honest, I personally prefer the sound through the hardware it was designed for

  • Actually I have an NES/SNES hybrid console and teh SMW music while decent, still doesn't sound as lively as the old Sonic music.

  • @troysson81 Dya mean the Gameboy Advance? The sound for Super Mario World was terrible on that. Otherwise, I think we just have different ears. I tell you one thing we can agree on though. Sonic 1 music rocked!!

  • I mean the SNES. And I didn't say terrible. I said not as lively.

  • @nicholasthetaylor It's from Sonic 2. .___.

  • @Tailsilver Yay! Sonic 2! Gotta love that Chemical Plant music

  • @troysson81 NES/SNES hybrid? I've only seen one of those and it was blue

  • It's called an FC Twin.

  • how do you create these smw spc music files anyway?

  • With a soundfont.

  • jdhf

  • I'm sorry?

  • How do I do that?

  • Comment removed

  • Compostion. I made this by hand.

  • This is ironic because this stage made me think of Mario when me and my brother got this far.

  • Usually, people associate Mushroom Hill Zone with Mario.

  • Funny you mention that because When I first saw Sonic and Knuckles back in 1996, I was unaware that there were Mushrooms in Mario. My assessment of Hill Top being similar to what's in a Mario game was back in 2001 which was 6 years after playing Super Mario Bros. at an old acquaintance's house before I moved to Dallas.

  • Wow.

  • very interesting!! thx

  • No problem. Glad you like.

  • Sounds like if the Genesis and SNES had a baby.

  • What the hell happened to my favourite Sonic song!

  • It got SNESisized...

    or something...
