You were true to the music but still very interesting to watch. I appreciate that you conducted your floor work with your body facing sideways, it makes it much classier. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I like that you have expression on your face. I with some dancers who choose a darker side of dance. They seem to have no expression. Which might be the look they are going for.
But I like the moment of a wicked smile or the looking up like you had a evil thought.
I think that Tempest (one of the foremothers of Gothic Belly Dance) would agree with isisrosalinde in saying that gothic belly dance CAN be taught... and /I/ would say that you, Taletha, have done a fairly good job representing it. Gothic belly dance has many different feelings to it (which people would notice if they actually checked out other videos of people like Tempest...) and, like the goth culture, I think it would be hard to really define it.
like the music....I'm surprised because I do bellydance, I taught myself...and I have my own style and not always I use the traditional music to dance I even use rock or another music to do it....but this is the first time I see another person using diffrent..its cool because is goth and sexy..
I find this quite interesting. Although I would hate to have original and cabaret bellydance overshadowed by new interps, whatever furthers interest in a great art form is fine with me.
I understand what you mean. There are several types of belly dance. For instance, there is Turkish pop, ancient Egypt, and now there are so many different spin offs of the original belly dance. So the colors don't matter unless you want to be extremely traditional. =)
Its about anything you want it to be. This is America and we have the privelege to express ourselves as we wish. You can express rage through bellydance. You can express the songs as they sound. If they are melancholoy, be melancholy! If its happy, be happy. Anyway, I like this dancer!
One theory was this dates back to Babylon, prior to Islam's arrival and banning of the dance. It migrated and other in Persia, India and the like, poor women learned it to entertain rich men for money. The other theory is that it helps reduce and ease the pain in childbirth.
I think you are mistaking punk for goth. The punk movement was more filled with rage, while the goth movement was almost the antithesis to punk.
Gothic bellydance can be taught, and can be many things, like sexy, sultry, dark, or melancholic. It just takes getting in touch with and expressing the shadow side of us, which everyone has. That is why it can be taught to those who seek to learn.
I think this video was very well done, and I enjoyed watching it.
that was realy beautiful, but i would have changed the outfit, alot of your moves are like snap snap, so i would have used something that enphisied those movments, some long skirt of flowy trousers.. just a sugestion =P
You've got the moves, but I would have gone with a more elegant outfit. Something that flows. And the cinematography needs different angels or something. The transitions, I usually don't approve of, but it was well done
Ah, another great example of her talent... and how marvelous the whole thing looks when the choregraphy is supported by a great lighting (dark blue, then paler purple) and an interesting background.
It looks very severe compared to one woman I've seen. The undiluations are very sharp. I think Rachel Brice could do this, she's got that Gothic look to her, but this seems slightly severe. Not to critisize Gothic Belly dance. I think it's kinda cool
AWSOME .... ur gd pretty nice performance keep it up

The setting and costume really doesn't do it for me. Moves are nice but at times hard to see. they are too subtle.

Gothic bellydance can NOT be taught; you must have the true rage in your HEART
noonelikeme09 4 years ago
Bellydance is not about rage...
When are people going to learn that???
CsLillith 3 years ago 14
Isn't it about fertility? Or at least that's how it started?
