This show is getting popular in China. It is a show for all amateur practisiones of various styles to come to do some sparring and have fun. It is NOT a real fight such as fights among amateur Sanda fighters or boxers or Shaui Jiao people.
I don't understand some of the comments here. They can't hit the face or any vital parts. They can't cause much damage with the protective gear. Basically that's what will end up throwing and kicking each other. I saw some really good throws. Throws are deadly too. I personally trained martial arts. I have ways too to kill someone purely with throw too. Then again. Not everyone are expert enough to see the skill invloved to achieve this on the ring.
I have to agree with you in some sense, there were too much inner figtings. China is so big and culturely isolated from outside at the end of 19th century, that was one of the problem, every empiro has its up and down. but, try it now ...I realy want some real fight.
russians stoped the nazis, almost with the same amount of weapons, and being as populated as China, and only few years later. Mongolians did also invade China , when powder weapons were not invented, and they were a prety small country. I love chinese culture, but some times that people seems so unorganized, with so much unitless....shame
@hankzhg that's true and not true, Japan had a more modernized army than China and more importantly took advantage of China being in a civil war at the time. The nationalist army (who did have elite german trained troops - most of them died fighting Japanese in the battle of shanghai) had to fight the Japanese and the communists at the same time.
@davihurrycane Perhaps you mean "grappling" traditions? Most shuai jiao teachers I know emphasize takedown defense to avoid having to stay on the ground. As it was a battle-field art, it doesn't make sense to roll around with armed foot soldiers and cavalrymen buzzing around you. But I do want to see those lei tai fights. Have they been uploaded yet?
My point was that they ran out of energy and it turned into a pushing match as they couldn't finish the fight. As chokes, joint locks, etc. are done mostly on the ground and head strikes are not allowed, you can't finish the fight, and you will just run out of steam.
lol - no head strikes and padded "kung fu" outfits for their torsos and no ground fighting... no wonder they ran out of energy and it became a pushing match.
its funny how in the first few seconds they were flashing around with they're hands.. but by the third fall they were just holding their hands up like normal fighters..
Who was it that said all fights end up on the ground...? :P
Most real chinese martial arts involve just as much grappling (if not more) as striking. Some styles such as shuai jiao are hard to tell apart from judo
this looks more like wrestling that an actual martial arts fight.

now I see why Japan was able to invade China
egrojodnamra 2 years ago
you fucking pussy, you know nothing about history. Japan didn't invade China using hand, they use fire arms, which China is not good at that time.

Kung-fu has groundfighting traditions, "Suay Jiao" or Chinese Judo
kung fu is more than the 4F's, but these idiots who do not train and make it look as ridiculous as this fight on video
I'll post some of Lei Tai real fights
davihurrycane 2 years ago 4
Shuai jiao is a *grappling* tradition, but not really a groundfighting tradition: its training is almost exclusively standing grappling.

i saw head strikes

No head strikes is one of the rules. When the one guy did strike his opponent in the head, it was a foul - as you can tell by their reactions.

irai1984 3 years ago
Considering they stood the fight back up every time it went to the ground, obviously there would be no ground fighting...
