another way is ordering them online, there brands of markers and mops that are specifically made for graffiti with burner paint and special ink that stains,
In a conversation on Flickr with a graffiti artist (I'm talking real one here) he said that most graffiti tagging is done by 11-15 year olds. Five, six seconds and they're done.
I've been following an online discussion and found out that there's even an etching compound one tagger bought. And that explains what i've seen happen to glass at Hamilton bus shelters.
I've been trying to find this YouTube video from the other day. One place (Australia?) is even banning kids from carrying MARKERS!
I forgot to add that this just incourages "racking" which is a huge part of the graffiti culture. All they are doing is forcing kids into theft which would eventually end up with more shoplifting arrests of teens. Stupid idea
good point with the advertisements, sticker slapping is a form of graffiti just as much as throwing up a tag is. And banning the sale of spraypaint to under 18s has already been done in many places with a much higher amount of graffiti then mississauga. It doesn't work, all it does is force kids to steal the paint. And many of the writers are over 18 or at least know ppl over 18. So this sounds like a stupid plan.
Actually today Peel Regional Police 11 Division had an Open House and I had an opportunity to speak with one of their graffiti experts.
He mentioned that plenty of kids steal spray paint right now even without a bylaw in place. I told him about how graffiti was a huge problem in Hamilton.and he served up Toronto as another example of the "genie out of the bottle."
Question for you. Taggers. They prefer industrial strength markers, right?
taggers dont actually use regular brand markers, there is a store in toronto called the bomb shelter that all taggers in the gta go for supplies. they have a youtube and you can see some examples of the markers. Some examples are: montana, on the run, hard to buff,
99pitbulls, thanks again for the excellent tip. I knew graffiti supplies could be bought online (part of my research requires me to view graffiti-related YouTube videos and online suppliers actually advertise here.
But I didn't know there was a store right in Toronto. I have to go into Toronto for a graffiti survey and will now make sure to put "the bomb shelter" as a stop.
I'm actually looking for ways to graffiti my clothes, believe it or not. You know, like "DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER"
Hey I like challenges too but when you're dealing with City security (I call them the Misstapo --rhymes with Gestapo) it's akin it to chess.
Only you're given only a pawn. And Security has all the other pieces, move those pieces anyway they wish and they can even dictate your move. Or not move.
Just so you know, it's all so corrupt and unethical, that I start and audio-recorder going before I step onto any City property and don't turn it off until I'm safely back on the street!
Yes, BusFreak93, these Council meetings (Wednesdays at 9 am) are open to the public.
If you're a youth, I suggest you be careful aorund City Hall because the City's Corporate Security guards are exempt from Ontario's licensing, standards and complaints procedures.
They are a rogue, unnaccountalble force that have banned kids as young as young as 9/10 without informiing parents. They also lie (confirmed through Freedom of Information) about their adherence to policies, guidelines etc.
Thanks for your comments. I've been observing and researching City of Mississauga Council since June 2006 and let's be clear about this.
The City of Mississauga is a hypocritical YOUTH-foxic corporate culture. It puts the interests and rights of its employees over those of youth and minors.
Your question regarding "engage the youth" again suggests that you don't understand the City and its real Mississauga Youth Plan.
Mississauga is about Appearance of doing something.
