  • The hit was late however Ovechkin probably didnt see the pass the defender made...The defender let his guard down because the pass was gone way before the hit...hits a few feet away from the boards are dangerous...better off to be closer to boards when getting hit like that...you also see this type of play on icing plays...they can really injure a player...this issue isnt about toughness...Its about saftey.

  • i swear the nhl is out to get him ...

  • it was a clean hit but he was only trying to finnish a check

    nothing wrong with the hit

  • they were 10feet from the boards so you cant call boarding ... looks like guy went head first intentionally to get a call didnt realize he would pay the price for it ... 2 min penalty tops ... stop hatin the playa .. hate the game

  • 2 games what a joke.

  • alright... cheap hit nonetheless but suspension is bull... especially since no action was taken on matt cooke...

  • @jonathan9510

The suspension comes from the rule book. Since Ovechkin has 2 boarding ejections this season, its an automatic suspension "Rule 42.6"

  • incorrect, that automatic rule has time limitation, after enough games have passed - which they have - its washed out. the suspension comes as a stupid decision by a stupid man trying to look like he's in control.

  • I'm not seeing any time frame in the rulebook other than that season, preseason, or playoffs, which this falls under. I'm not saying its not there, just that I'm not seeing it. If you could point it out that would be great.

  • "When a player or goalkeeper has played in 41 consecutive regular League games without being assessed a boarding and/or a checking from behind major and a game misconduct according to Rules 42 and 44, he will have the previous game misconduct penalties removed from his current record..."

    from sports-yahoo-com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Why-Alex-Ovechkin-won-t-receive-an-automatic-sus?urn=nhl,227840

title: Why Alex Ovechkin won't receive an automatic suspension

  • Ok I see now. Well, I have to say, he sure cut it close on the 41 game rule.

  • as close as he could, not that it mattered in the end since he was still suspended.

  • no action was taken on matt cooke because no action was taken on mike richards. this is a completely different play than either of those hits. but all 3 were suspendable

  • NHL working hard to get cindi crosby that all important scoring title! all they have to do is have ovechkin play 10 less games than him...

and of course the media just needs something to bitch about:

one year: russians play to soft, what a bunch of sissies, us super tough north americans have heart and grit!

next year: russians paly too rough! we cant have them running roughshot over good 'ole gentle canadian boys!

  • @evilfishtank00 lol sorta agree'd.

  • @evilfishtank00 crosby is doin it even with ovechkin there dumbass. ovechkin ain't even in 2nd

  • @beastmaster5132 are you some sort of moron? do you see where it says "10 months ago" under my comment? gtfo of my face.

  • UPDATE - The NHL suspended Ovechkin for 2 games for this hit.

  • HE JUST GOT FUCKING SUSPENDED FOR THIS. Nhl is pissing me off, they didn't suspend matt cooke for trying to take savards head of.... ovechkin pushed him, and then campell fell aquardly... this is is pissing me off i can't even discribe in words how mad i am right now

  • Henke8920

Are you blind? This is what ovechkin does! He is a great player but he is also a cheap player. What was the purpose of that hit?

  • @henke8920

Read Rule 42.6. Any player or goalkeeper who incurs a total of two (2) game misconducts under Rule 42 and/or Rule 44, in either Regular season or Play-offs, shall be suspended automatically for the next game of his team. For each subsequent game misconduct penalty the automatic suspension shall be increased by one game.

  • Hey this reminds me of something... Lapierres boarding SUSPENSION on Scott Nichol, now lets see if the NHL is fair.

  • I know, he's almost gotten into a fight but his teammate skated in and took the guy.

  • he is an awesome player but this is a dirty hit..i hope someday he stands up and drop his gloves or someone really go after him..he gets away so much shit...someone needs to go after him

  • he should fight crosby

  • @jgcane that'd be funny

  • crosby would cry
