  • clapton is amazing when he gets up high on the neck. He's so fluid. He's got the technique of a classical violinist. the movements are so small the spacing so tight. adn yes this is the closest I've heard him play like this since Blind faith..

  • In Memory Of Duane Allman

  • @TheMrealKing and Berry Oakley

  • I love how Eric tried to play the riff at the end. Right off the bat! Played like a champ!

  • DA & WH can't take their eyes off EC when he lets loose..lol! He was definately on that nite...

  • Eric is an all time killer guitar player and makes this version a WOW, but....it cannot stand up to the solos Dwayne Allman played. Eric tears up his Fender! Six Stars not Five!

  • lol, Clapton's alright. He's been playing the same licks for 40 years :)

  • Awesome, wish Clapton would have played like this at Mayall's concert..

  • Nothing against EC but not much is added to this song since Duane and Dickie did it forty years ago, Also check out WH solo on the Great Woods DVD 1992...

  • Clapton is my favorite all time player. Not because I think his techno-abiliity is better than this person or that, He has staying power, He has feeling, and he's very humble. I do think he becomes lazy many times. I guess he doesn't have to prove anything. But you "push" him. and his talents come out. I've seen him perform many times live. I know what can do when he "WANTS" to.

  • this clip takes off at 1:35...

ec pushing 70 blows those two way overrated turds warren and trucks off the fucking stage..those two suck balls...they arent in the same league as duane and dickie..nor EC...

warren u suck and trucks u blow...EC cooks here...

  • @ChiroQuacker you are sooooo full of shit, dont know what you are talking about, pure and simple

  • @paulbarraza

no i am spot-on here...i just saw them at the beacon theater..and warren is nothing more then competent..he reminds me of a guy who can play but works at guitar centre...

when i just saw these two..let me tell you they play like two old farts...i saw dickie and duane in their prime and they played with energy, soul...its sad that warren and trucks are the fill-ins for duane and dickie..they are forgettable players totally overrated and they are bland...

    you dont know squat fool

  • @ChiroQuacker i dont agree, i think they both are great. Now you might be able to say that about the Betts and Toler years, look , i love Duane and Dickey, I put Duane right behind Hendrix but to say that Warren and Derek are overrated tells me that maybe you dont know squat fool, now i just saw Clapton in L.A. , and he was "ON", i was blown away, , i dont think Clapton would step on stage with the Allmans if Warren and Derek were bad as you say they are let alone play at his Crossroads shows

  • @paulbarraza

warren and trucks are competent guitarists..nothing more...

if you took them back in time to 1970...they would not shine the shoes or hendrix, clapton, duane, dickie...

yet here they are 40 years later..with knowledge and equipment those greats did not have in 1970...and yet the guys in 1970 were far more innovative then these two lumps...

if it had been warren and trucks in 1970 with the allmans instead of dickie and duane..the allmans would never had made it as they did....

  • @ChiroQuacker don't be such an asshole man, Warren and Trucks are amazing, for all-time standards, maybe you like Dicki and Duane as a duo more, and that's cool, but you can't call these guys lumps...

  • @rodcrippler

i said it like it is...trucks and warren are lumps..i see guys in dive blues bars that play as well as them....

trucks and warren never would have been asked to join the band...by duane...never...he took on dickie betts because he recognized brilliance in his playing....not many lead guitarists would bring dickie in to their band for fear of being shown up..but not duane....

sorry rod...but i cant listen to warren and trucks after hearing duane and dickie play those killer riffs

  • slowhand is the man.

  • @SkunkDroppings You must be kidding right! I'm not taking mr. penatonic... i mean eric's thunder away but to say he blew them off the stage is just fantasy.

  • @concretejungle80cruz Spell the scale form right before you criticize it. In this video, Warren deviates from PENTATONIC just as much as Eric does, it's not a competition. Further, the sheer fluidity and architecture of Eric's solo is what makes it so special. I love Warren, but it had to be hard to follow that. For Christ's sake, the band just seems to explode more and more as the solo moves on.

But go ahead and keep a score card for color tones.

  • no one blows Warren or Derek off the stage.......................they all brought there "A" game that night............fantastic set of music............a friend of mine works on the Allmans crew......................they asked EC if he wanted to sing a verse of Stormy Monday................he declined.......he was VERY,VERY content to be 1 of 3 guitar players and didnt want to take any attention away from Duanes tribute!

  • the only words which I could say while watching to this video was "oh my god"

  • Wow! Best I've seen Clapton play in years. They should do a whole tour together! Thanks for posting.

  • WOW- EC ON FIRE THE WHOLE WAY THRU BUT ESPECIALLY KICKS UPANOTHER LEVEL JUST ABOUT 2:50 THRU TO THE END... THANKS FOR POSTING...

  • Warren's gotta be thinking - how on earth do I follow that?

(not hating - I think WH is the man)

  • @jeff1824 - hey jeff, yeah the great thing is that each of these guys can rip it up as good as the next guy... and they all feed off the other guys. that's what great guitarists do...

  • God lives!

  • I have LOOONG wanted to see Eric Clapton and the Allman Brothers Band together!!! Glad it finally happened! To me, Eric Clapton IS the English Southern rocker! I wished he could just join the Allman Brothers Band!

  • nobody plays up the neck like Eric. if a tenor sax player played what he just played he'd be up there with the greatest in history. saw him with Cream in '67, and after all these years still can't believe how good he is.

  • Derek is Eric!!!

  • i didnt think it was possible to hear Clapton like this again. it is just soooo good. love that guy.

  • NICE

  • I loved that! Thanks! LOVED seeing him smile at derek after that!!! So much more after reading that article in RS. If you havn't read it.. check it out. Very Good Read!!!!

    Clapton is God.. Amen

  • EC said after this that he hadn't played like this since 1967. See cover article (with Jeff Beck) in current Rolling Stone magazine.

  • haha I just read that and longed on here. Nice.

  • @RakeRocter I have to differ with EC, his solo in "I Shot the Sheriff" in Crossroads 2004 was outta this world too... maybe his career highlight!

  • FFFFFUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!KKKKKK.....can I have a tissue please.....mind blowing guitar work here....AWSOME! Wish I could of seen this live!

  • This is one of the greatest guitar solos I have ever seen in my life.

    There is still a god.

  • Spectacular. Actually, that's a very Dickey-esq solo by Clapton there.

Gregg, Jaimoe, Butch + a combined 55+ years membership from Warren, Marc, Oteil & Derek. That's the current & legit Allman Brothers Band.

  • No Dickey, No Liz Reed....period

  • i agree ..there is no allmans without dickey

  • Good to see people supporting Dickey Betts it's rare anymore....what I don't understand is why and how they're getting away with playing his songs?

  • This was just after Eric had dropped his pick on th e floor. Eric finger picked better than he had been required to in 20 years, and HE HIT IT! After he picked up the pick; Derek took over the lead. Eric was pretty silent, untill he was envigorated by Greg's organ lead. then Eric Shreds again! YOU CAN'T FAKE THIS SHIT!

  • thanks man , exactly what i was thinking,

  • EC's on Fire!!
