This is from an MTV show called "Mouth to Mouth". It was filmed November 8th, 1988 (Election Day, Bush vs Dukakis. Here's part one: watch?v=23TVw8wsLKc
@WhyTheHorseface, Cool, man! Thanks for the extra info on the program and for posting the interview segment. I don't remember even having seen that part of it.
@Rocit66 IT would have been probably based on the RG500 series. however Ibanez had a custom shop in North Hollywood in those days and the guitar would have a few tweaks that were not standard on Ibanez production models until the mid 90s - I had a 1991 USGR32 custom model that had all these extras. Compared to the standard RG series back then the customs felt more like a PRS in terms of build quality, workmanship and overall feel even though they still looked like pointy hair metal guitars.
I'm kinda guessing this was like a "pre show" warmup for the 88-89 New Years show they did. If you search on here you'll find the video I'm talking about. Same stage, Reb's wearing the same shirt.
Haha! Well that New Years show you're referring to is also one of my videos. Although it was indeed the same MTV studio stage they were performing on, these were actually filmed many months apart from each other.
Chit, Winger makes mince meat out of most faggy metal bands. This guys can play like the Van Halen brothers. This track will melt anything off a Megadeth LP.
this song is so wrong from a content perspective......but it is undeniable on how catchy the riffs and ebbs and flows to the music is, that is for sure
This video is a perfect example of how good they are and a kick to the teeth of all the people who've made fun of them...you can hear Kip's base really well. Very raw and live sounding...the way it should be! Bass line is tight! Take a look at Rod...he loves the drums!
I remember the night they played on MTV. My friends and I were watching the Sugar ray leonard vs. Donny LaLonde fight and were turning back and forth between MTV and the lame ass prelininary fights.
That's right people... these were the days. The days when bands actually played their instruments and sang as opposed to all the lip sync'ing crap out now. Real singing, real performing, and REAL MUSIC.
That bridge section right after the lead break is really fucking tight! That dude on the far left playing 2nd guitar also doubles on keyboards and plays each instrument as good as the other! I forgot how good this band really is! I saw these guys open for the Scorpions on their first tour in Los Angeles back in '88...now that was a kick ass show!
PULL is probably their best album, songwriting wise, it's the deepest, both lyrically as well as the heaviest sound. Winger IV is the most progressive of all their records.
how i miss hte days of shredding guitar and big hair. glad they're back out on the road. i don't know if i could play those bass riffs and sing like that and have increible hair at the same tiime. now that's multitasking
Yeah...Winger has never got the credit the deserved. They weren't a cookie-cutter band like Poison and Motley Crue...they always had their own sound with geat musicianship, and Reb Beach is about as good a guitarist as you'll ever find.
winger it´s amazing man!!!i agree with you...but dude, plaease don´t put down motley crue!!!!!and poison either....they may be goofy but they made it big wether you like it or not
Kip Fucking rules

@heylad I love that New Year's vid. Just noticed it wasn't the same shirt on Reb in both videos (both were Winger shirts though).
Thanks for posting these vids. Absolutely love this stuff.!!!

is this from that MTV ABC rock thing that had Firehouse and Poison on?
There were loadsa others i think maybe Warrant..

Yeah, Reb rips, no doubt! But this just isn't a great performance.
1) It's slow and plodding
2) Back up vocals are pretty lacking
3) They just seem tired
4) Check the MTV New Year's performance for a truly great showing.
Even the great ones have bad nights!
rustmidas 2 years ago
pretty rubbery performance, still rips though. See the "MTV New Year's Eve" vids for truly awesome version.

rubbery? this is a great performance, and reb beach is the greatest live player period

winger gets ripped on by hard core metalists but these guys were and still are a bunch of talented musicians that just had some great songs.....

damn, I wish the intro riff didn't get cut off - I remember Reb played it with slightly different rhythm that sounded really cool

Goofy Gin, that sounds like an interesting drink.. lol i know what you mean though hehe.

Great musicianship. Rod Morngenstein and Reb Beach in the same band? Yep, it's going to rock.
smilinglemur 4 years ago
They are so underrated. Especially Reb. MTV overplayed these guys with headed for a heartbreak I think that helped do them in overexposure of 1 song.
blade9r 4 years ago
Not the best songwriters in my opinion, but Winger had a nice sound. Every instrument was interesting and well played. Plus Kip has a dynamite voice.
Merle1987 4 years ago
no doubt about that.. You should hear the song writing in Winger IV man.. amazing.
Not to mention Battle Stations.. thats just sick song writing. These guys talent could almost heal my leg.. think about thaf for a minute lol

PULL is probably their best album, songwriting wise, it's the deepest, both lyrically as well as the heaviest sound. Winger IV is the most progressive of all their records.
