Brian - thanks. This way of thinking of the swing has totally short circuited my concept of golf. I tried it at the range today and I am actually taking divots after the ball for the first time in my golf life (30+ years). Plus, the ball was going as far, or further, with less effort.
Question: Does the club type (e.g. 7-iron vs. driver) change the plane of the drop?
