what is your opinion about the cd player rega apollo? I am thinking of buying it,the alternative is the cheapest cayin vacuum tube cd player ,the 50 T.I dont want vacuum amps for the moment, they need 3 hours in my house to get hot and sound good.Did you have any experience with vacuum tube cd players.?thanks for the video
@hantonjavi1 its a good cd although it has broken twice in about 5 years - fixed once under warranty and did the same thing 6 months ago. good sound [i think cds all sound the same anyway really if the dac is halfway decent] the amp though is something else altogether - best thing i have ever bought
@corpsecart Well it also depends on what you mean by Class A, a term that is often loosely used by hifi marketing departments. I have a Cayin H80A amp that is also called Class A (by Cayin), and it gets warm rather than hot. I suspect it is because it runs less bias current and is not a pure Class A as per potatomasher's 265ai.
I am amazed that you are using 40 watts per channel for Focus 110. I thought they needed massive power to properly move the super stiff bass cones. I think the words used in some reviews was that a nuclear power plant was needed. Put me off since I like speakers that are under a tight grip and control from the amp.
@SuperMangn it goes quite loud enough for me - it wont generate ear splitting levels [i had an adcom power amp @ 300 watts and a pair of kef C90's ages ago and they dont do that volume] but for jazz etc etc it's fine. if you like doomph music etc then you woul need a bigger amp - they are about 86 or 87 db/watt i think - the ones i am currently using are about 85db/watt. dont forget you have to increase your amplifier power by 10 times to double the perceived volume
@potatomasher100 I just looked up your amp it seems that class A amps have an advantage when it comes do driving speakers. Something to do with the current supply. I was thinking of lower grade amps that I`m used to dealing with.
@potatomasher100 Might get the speakers but I would have to test them against Spendor SA1 and PMC DB1i. Did you test them against other speakers about the same price and what did you find was better about the 110`s ?
Thanks, Dynaudio are making amazing speakers.
