wow. this is probably my favorite performance i've come across on youtube so far. it's like he's swimming through the air...each movement getting closer and closer to him standing up. just, wow.
each movement is apart of a long and fluid meditation for him... wow.... i dont think that a technically advanced modern dancer could have accomplished this... it isnt just about the movements and the choreography.... its about being fully concious and fully present in the NOW.... deep
I love how the performer can make the human body into and art form. Movement needs to be more natural in the dance world and Butoh does it beautifully. I would love to see this one day. Butoh needs to make it's way down the eastern sea bord :) loved it. keep of the great work.
this is the fist butoh performance i've seen and it's wierdly fascinating.. i love it ^^ especially the way he has complete control over evrey part of his body

This is a disgrace to butoh! The median is supposed to be entirely pure and bare for the earth to see. This impostor is wearing garments! This is not butoh! This is an abomination!
it's becouse this is a dance for the bones, they say that in butoh dance you're dancing the corpse, the dead body.. or something like that.. i't very beautyful actually, not using your muscules, or using them in a very low rate.. i'm takin' some classes of it, it's not like any other dance i know.. altough, rather alike the afro movements..

too slow in the beginning, my mind wandered off right away. the thing with abstract art is that everyone has a different take on the meaning of it. but then is there any meaning at all? no one knows what the artist is thinking or trying to portray. the piece of art is just something that catches your mind and then lets your mind explore a certain realm of thoughts. personally, abstract art is not the way i like to stimulate my mind. to each their own.
He reminds me of an animal that lives in both land and water, an amphibian. He has obviously studied the minute details of each normal movement in order to compose this.
Wonderful performance. To see a butoh protest of art censorship check out Whiteout: Butoh for BLU on Vimeo.

Is butoh choreographed? I'm starting to get it, but it seems completely improvised.

Very good work. I wonder if any of this is performed in Miami's Art Design District in Miami, FL. It would make a great exhibition for the area.

jesus. aren't you taking this a bit too catholic? abomination is a word normally used by people who burn other people on stakes.

Dancers of butoh can be naked or semi-naked

Hijikata-san wore clothes, my dear. As did many who came after him.

butoh dance is supposed to be done nude

HarlsBabe - don't be ridiculous. Some of the most famous Butoh performers, including the originals, wore clothing.

that was a really beautifully controlled and executed piece. the gradual building and the containment of rhythm was perfect.
