  • Very bad solo ouch!

  • @secretcheef I love Living Colour, but I don't know if these guys solely can defeat the vast array of talent that comes out of not just Sweden, but Scandanavia in general.

Although, I'd like to point out that white people got their rock from blacks. Blacks killing it on guitar goes back to the Muddy Water's days.

  • @nukenfry Long before Muddy Waters buddy.

  • @bigred395 Point taken.

  • Wow the African Ronald MC Donald sings very well

  • skin color shouldn't be a factor in music, in love, in human rights, in anything. If you've got soul or something to say, let's hear it!

  • @secretcheef I think most white people dont know how to play guitar... Another tool to masterbate with seemingly... White guy weho plays guitar TY and done

  • Even youtube's servers are not liking living colour. If this was a lady gaga video it would not be buffering for 10 minutes. Jesus Christ !

  • WHAT A SHOW

  • Great song, awful out-of-sync video.

  • To me the color of you're skin has nothing to do with music. The first time i heard Living Colour was on Q107 a Toronto fm radio station. They played cult of personality, that song blew me away.I bought "VIVID" about a week later, they are still one of my favorite bands.Vernon Reid is one of the greatest guitarists i've ever heard. There is one song i would love Living Colour to cover ,Jimi's "Peace In Mississippi" Thanx

  • No where near as good as the original.

  • Comment removed

  • @secretcheef bad brains shreds man

  • damn'...i was at this concert!!! one of the best ever...Living Colour are freaks!!!

  • Actually if anyone has heard of Greg Howe. He's an amazing guitarist and would easily stand next to Eddie Van Halen or Reb Beach or Paul Gilbert or even Joe Satriani without breaking a sweat. This guy is that good. Go check him out. greghowe dot com He's black too and believe me, this guy could make you nervous when he plays guitar if you think you're that good.

  • I think it is all subjective.I got a white ass and genetically half nazi[austria] and english.AND I THINK THESE GUYS ARE WAY UNRECOGNISED AWESOME TECHNICALLY SUPERB MUSICIANS, SO THERE to all you humans, and fuck all the black and white pricks. We all got red blood cells and pink livers, we are man and woman kind.....PEACE, fuck politicians religion and oil and racism, give me another ativan, lol.

  • @secretcheef Fishbone is an all black band, or was and still tour I think. And they are amazing. I wonder if any of the rappers of today can play one chord on a guitar. Black or white, todays music is not very good. I would love to see more guitarists inspire young people instead of rapping.

  • Damn this kicks. Better than the original.

  • Thank you for suggesting changing the settings. It synched up the soundtrack to the video, which really enhanced the viewing & listening exprience. I thought the Band of Gypsys played the definitive version of this song until today. Living Colour may not have played it flawlessly, but neither did Hendrix. It's wild & wooly & full of raw intense power. Serious rock, amigos.

  • OtsI personally think he tries to play too fast. Speed is good mind you, but not at every turn. That's my only problem with his solos.

  • @secretcheef yeah, right/ Lots of black guys can jam their asses off. I've played with many of them. Most, like myself, prefer a different style to what most metal lovers consider great . Personally, I don't think speed alone is the determining factor. I do think feel and note placement is. Like Hendrix of course. But these boys did jam this song.!

  • THIS DEBATE WILL GO ON FOREVER!great cover once again by this band,

  • On my computer, theyre playin in slow-mo, thats the slowest I've ever seen Vernon play LOL

  • @secretcheef HENDRIX HAD QUITE A FEW WHITE GUITAR PLAYERS AFRAID OF HIM WHEN IT ALL BEGAN, COLOR DON'T MATTER ALL THAT MATTERS IS IF YOU CAN PLAY FROM THE SOUL

  • Great Music from these guys as always-- too bad some simple minded jack ass decided to be "Creative" and put it all out of sync.-- creative jack ass yeah

  • man thats crazy, they are obviously very ignorant. some of the best guitar players were black - wes montgomery, george benson, it really does not take that intellectual hard work to play most metal. oh well i suppose their definition of 'technical playing' is playing scales up and down at fast tempos which isnt really all that technical mind you

  • Vernon's still got it! I always thought it was unfortuneate that people don't appreciate his skills. I mean, sure he did a few covers and stories for the first two (or maybe three) albums and then .... what? It's disappointing. His style is highly unique unlike anything out there now.

On a side note .. good to see Corey's voice sounds awesome still!

    Wimbish - still badass!

  • This is such an awesome jam, too bad it's such a terrible upload. Can someone please do this right?

  • @kraig7777 change settings to 240p and it will play properly

  • FRO COMB!!

  • shame it is so chopped up, i know v reid is a smokin guitarist, would have liked to have heard this, but cant.

    phil

  • How'd this get so out of synche?

  • Their latest album released to reach no. 159 at the Billboard 200. What the fuck is happening? I live in Asia and I can't even find the damn thing in popular music stores.

  • im lovin that bass line

  • I think my face is melting... my gawd. Hendrix would be proud :)

  • Just look at the facial expressions on the guitarists face when hes soloing, its like Hendrix temporarily embodied him and just fucking let the shit rip.

  • Lol id love to see any queer ass metal band try and match just the emotional level and skill of these guys. Living color is the shit not only for their music but for the exceptional way they continue the legacy of the greatest, Jimi Hendrix, ANY and i repeat ANY metal head fuck that says music has advanced, you take a fender strat and hit em right across the fucking mouth, get em on the ground get right in their face tell them who just sent that strat flying, mr god damned HENDRIX COCK SUCKERS

  • Living Colour are MASTER MUSICIANS plane and simple. I would have love to heard this concert.

  • @secretcheef agreed especially as Hendrix basically invented hard rock and metal.

  • grososs

  • @secretcheef the nazi fuckheads know goddam well who they got everything that rocks from. Racist are always tryna re write history. All the great music that rocks came from US!

  • @Screamingdk God only knows where we'd be if Hendrix was still alive, thats why im glad guys like these are continuing to play his music. And ya those racist cock suckers know exactly who, and it sure as fuck wasnt some dumb hick, it was the slaves back in the day... thats where blues started and ill b damned if anyone says otherwise. and im not even black! But i know whats good

  • Thats funny that the singer used to be the one with long hair, and now he's the one with short hair.

  • These guys are and always will continue to be THE BOMB!!!

  • They really pulled this off.

  • Thanks for sharing . Fun video................Derrick Thru The Lenz Studios

  • vernon plays so sloppy but so clean. every note is picked perfectly but there's just still this dirty sound with each string he picks

    it's intensity

  • MONSTERS!!!

    LOve these fellas.

    JBirdy

  • cool as hell.

  • RIP Jimi and Buddy.....rock on Bill Cox.

Great version by LC......love Vernon Reid

  • this cover they did was better then the real song from jimi hendrix cool.

  • who cares what color they are , i havent seen a better band yet. black .white ...whatever ........vernen freaken blows me away .......i've followed this band 4-ever and corey is the man ............they are all amazing ........

  • keep the faith P.O.S.

  • ok what u think who is the majority audience of this band black or white well there is the answer go figure!!!!

  • tonights their last night performing.

    Satriani and johnson too :(((

Im so glad i got to see em last night though!

This was my favorite song they did

  • just saw them at experience hendrix in akron,oh. I cant believe i didnt know about vernon b4 . amazingly fast......and sounds good as well he has his own style

  • just saw them do this at the Experience Hendrix St Louis show, they STOLE THE SHOW!! They also did Crosstown Traffic, amazing

  • not as much as kenny wayne shepherd stole the show with voodoo child, but i don't think there was one musician there who wasn't phenomenal

  • @tome0591 very true. I was telling a fellow musician friend about it the other day and found myself gushing about how awesome it was, definitely buying the DVD if they come out with one

  • I've read some of the comments on hear. I am a black guitar player myself, and all I have to say is if you are looking at skin and counting notes then you've completely missed a beautiful performance.

This band never ceases to give me goosebumps with their live shows.

    Amazing.

  • This is not an easy song to play, believe me! As great as this guy is, he or anyone else for that matter cannot match Jimi's solo phrasing and feel. NOBODY! But he does give it a nice go. Speed does not equal feel.

  • nice fro-comb, Cory!

  • yea exactly rock is based of the music that blacks made

    the mother fuckin blues

  • Its not about keeping up with Hendrix , Hendrix could play with the power of SOUL gathered from the chittlin circuit of Soul and blues, his FEEL was amazing because of his background, THIS made his sound. On top of the fact of him being the WRITER of beautiful songs some quite stiring, to wonderful and profound ballads. Those "comparing " other players to Jimi are one diminsional. But I guess mimicing is the highest from of flattery.

  • That was awesome, LC rocks every time!

  • love this, there version of a hendrix classic well done LC . jimi would be pleased .

  • Vernon is so under rated. Indeed with the power of soul every thing is possible.

  • vernon shreds that guitar

  • Great cover. Played with their own style. A lot of people make the mistake of trying to cover Jimi and try to play it note for note like he did. It's best to improvise with your own style to be really in the spirit of Jimi's music.

  • Ah yes, but how many can play it note for note plus with the exact Hendrixian sound? I'll tell ya: NO ONE except Steve Webb & EXP. This man has accomplished the near impossible as far as capturing the Hendrix sound note for note AND sound for sound (guitarwise) that I've ever heard! Do a YouTube search of this band and their cover of Power of Love and you'll be BLOWN AWAY. Guaranteed!

  • i know pleny of unknowns that can keep up with hendrix...the question is can they improvise? look out for a guy named phil booker...

  • wat do u mean keep us with?? if they cant improvise then they cant keep up with hendrix! hendrix was the whole package, it wasnt about any one thing, soloing, rhythm, technique, feel, song writing... it was all them together, and the sum was far greater than its part because above all he had the power of soul. so by these criteria i think about a handful in history could keep up with him.

  • i saw hendrix with sunshine and he would of loved living color.way even the question both are real and beautiful.santosh anam.

  • @thebahana

    d'acord...absolutely

  • Feedback @ 2:13 is sick. . .

These guys were too good for their own good.

  • Reid's soloing is trademark and sloppy. fucking amazing. Such original guitar solo sound. Go HAMER GUITARS.

  • Can you imagine how big they would be if they were a white band? It's incredibly f'ed up how the music industry screws black rock bands!! These guys are so awesome!

  • That's nonsense.

  • take your head out of your ass pat boone

  • @SometimeAngel alot of the stuff they played was terrible i think if it wouldnt have been for cult of personallity they would have never been as mainstream as they are

  • @TheBenjamin879 oh shut the fuck up

  • @SometimeAngel sorry, but, that just doesn't make sense. ever here of a dude called jimi hendrix? also, LC was huge when they first came out. unfortunately, popular musical tastes kind of went to shit in the 90s. i blame that as much as anything else.

not saying there aren't stupid racist types out there that dismissed them, but, for each one of them, i think there are 5 like me who are tickled to see a group of brothas show us white boys how to rock.

  • @SometimeAngel I agree, I think Living Color influenced many of the black bands we have now, but it's sad to say that very few of them get the recognition that they deserve. My favorite band Sevendust has a black lead singer & sound a lot like Living Color, just a bit heavier, but I've never been able to see any of their videos on MTV without going to OnDemand in digital cable. A worst case is Rayzing Sons half of the band is black but I've found very little info about them dating back to 2003.

  • @SometimeAngel I love these guys- what other black bands are anything like these guys?

  • @Beavis1144 try 24/7 spyz

fishbone, badbrains but the last one its hardcore punk & somes dub reggae

  • INCREDIBLE!!!!

  • Amazing x.x

  • THAT`S BRUTAL!!!

  • Superb! One of the most underrated bands of all time. Saw them perform live in 1990 or 91 when Time's Up came out. Vernon's jazz/funk/rock mix style has always amazed me. He gives so much more than just playing Hendrix song to the note (like some others do/did). Vernon adds his own style without killing the spirit. Also Corey sings like Buddy Miles: cool! Seeing this makes me wonder why there aren't more black bands like Living Colour making music like this.

  • this is the hard black rock that Hendrix kicked off but very few can do like this. and it's clear Mclaughlin must have blessed Vernon Reid once, 'cause man, that is some serious fusion of soul.

    and the guy can sing!!!!!!!!!

  • He isn't singing, this is him with his band "Living Color."

  • this is fricking amazing!!!!!!!!

  • amazing vernon should be in the top 5 , totally unique you would know his playing

  • i saw them do this at the central park show nyc in like 2000,Too Good!

  • It is hard to believe that the so called experts have rated Reid #66 out of 100 for greatest guitar players! I think he deserves higher than that. So much for the experts in America-most of them are a bunch of fatheads!.

  • tek noin

  • nice ...

  • Very well said my friend. Jimi, in his most true nature, was "over the top." To do justice to Jimi's spirit is to connect with that rhythm section the way Vernon does, while pushing the limits of one's ability and technique. Hence, this is a perfect tribute, performed in te spirit of Jimi's music and his approach to performance, and the basis of metal and hard rock playing.

  • no soul,just shredding..

  • what? this shit fresh. urban and very hendrix. lots of history in the playing.

  • have to disagree, vocals and rythem section are great but the guitar shredding is way over the top.

  • well, dunno. to me it suits the energy and takes the music to higher levels. i guess we have opposing ideas of soul as a means of musical expression.

    well, peace anyways...

  • There is some soul there but it is dominated and overshadowed by the shredding.

  • agreed

  • fucking excellent!

    Reid is da MAN

  • Awesome cover!!! Well done!!! Jimi is smiling.....

  • just awful.............all the soul taken out of it with those ridiculous overdriven shredding notes..........

Learn to shake those strings and work glissendos without the overdrive.......

And give the bass more bottom end.....

    Weak effort.........

  • you just did'nt get it.

  • i love how the hole band gets into the music big plus great cover

  • u see a great artist when he creates a controversy , no more to say

  • THIS video made me want to pick the guitar to play some years ago.I was totally blew.Vernon became my idol ,my hero ever since then.

Look at his expression, his way of deviating shred, enthusiasm!

    I don't know Jimi Hendrix.

    Vernon covers Jimi.

  • Get off the drugs.

  • at least you noticed his jazz approach unlike other guys on here. you're right with the jellyfish lyrics.

but still, i think this is a very decent cover. well, tastes differ

  • I believe Jimi would be proud, Reid, is a TRUE KEEPER OF THE FLAME.

  • I wrote the last comment before seeng the video. And Vernon confirmed it for me. That was ridiculous. The band is great. Corey's great. But that soloing is just ridiculously, uh.....ridiculous. They should call the rest of the band the dirty socks after Vernon just jacked off all over them.

  • dude, vernon is almost the stalest player I've ever heard. Next to Vai. He's a fine riffer but he's the prince of gratuitous shredding. Vai's the King. No shit, reel it in man.

  • pretty damn good

  • Vernon should have shredded less and stuck with the orig chord prog on the vocal part. He epitomizes the whole problem with playing fast and out. Some guys never know when to reel it in.

  • dude, vern put the song in a body bag

  • Nah. He did a decent job... still not Hendrix, though..

  • Christ, I'd love to play guitar with that band ;)

  • I think this dude gives it a good run..

  • makes you realise just how funky and sexy jimmy hendrix's playing was when you hear other bands try to play this. should have left it alone!

  • lol. Yeah, he did kill the groove. This is a good example of why you don't cover Hendrix. His sound was so unique, that any deviation sounds wrong. Not into the random shredding, either. Just doesn't belong in a song about the power of soul. Maybe I'm just nitpicky, though.

  • no, you are not being nitpicky. living colour don't come anywhere near hendrix. you know that, i know that. i feel sorry for people who listen but still dont know it!

  • Hendrix was a genius, period. No one can argue that. But Living Colour is by far the best band I've seen on stage . They are absolutely incredible. And I just feel sorry for people who still don't know it.

  • thats fair enough. having seen bands like thin lizzy, yes, awb, level 42, billy cobham, chas and dave!, to mention a few,i can't say i envy you.

  • Well, I've seen Yes, Rush, King Crimson, The Who, Jethro Tull, Rolling Stones, U2, The Police, Aerosmith, Bob Dylan, Iron Maiden, The Cult, White Stripes, David Lee Roth, Hives, Melvins, The Cult, Tori Amos, Pearl Jam and many more... but please, don't envy me!!!

  • ok , i did say "to mention a few". but you still have'nt seen chas and dave!

  • Amazing how they could make cover songs their own. . . One of my favorite bands ever. I have seen them countless times and I was never disappointed. Not once. They always play clubs. And they are the kindest and most accessible group of musicians you could ever meet.

  • LIVING COLOUR IS AMAZING. OMG! This clip is insanely awesome.

  • living colour rules !!!!

  • this guy is shredding... not much blues/jazz... shredding = repetitive phrasings...

    blues/jazz = continuous sequental non-repetitive phrases....
