NEO GEO is the benchmark of 2D gaming. It's ashame that most of the younger generation were not exposed to the the quality of games that SNK was producing in the 90's when arcades were the rage.
The Neo Geo is a system I consider to be one of the most elitist systems i've ever come across. People always like to do that, have something which the other guy doesn't have. If it didn't happen to have some great games i'd consider neo geo fanboys to be the saddest of the bunch. At least I can get my nintendo and playstation games used for less than a tenner...
This console is still considered to be the ultimate collectors system and is the pride and joy of any collector lucky enough to own one along with any if it's high priced games. I play any system I collect which is why I sold most of my collection years ago since it became stupid to have so much. The Neo is the only classic system I've kept along with 12 games that I still love to play because to this day I'm still awed to how beautiful the games look, especially component modded on an HD CRT.
I remember when Neo Geo Gold System was being sold at Shaper Image. It was the Ferrari of game consoles back in the early 90’s. If you could flip the bill for this extremely expensive gaming system and shell out over $200.00 for games...CRAZY! I have friends who still cannot believe how big the game cartridges are. A wopping 7.5 inches X 5.34 inches…wow what the fuck is this?!!! I still have this system and it’s still a blast to play as far as 2d games go. Neo Geo: Bigger Badder Better!!!
I love fighting and shoot 'em up games, but not enough to look into buying a Neo Geo. I think it's an awesome niche machine but it seriously lacked diversity in the game library. If this thing had some classic platformers, it would be the ultimate.

I remember the day i bought my Neo-geo. The first thing I did was shoryuken it out of my window and straight into the trash can. Then the garbage men refused to take it to the dump, so i just burned it.
i always wonder where people get the info that the NG was released in the late 80´s. release was in june or july '90. what also most people don´t know, around a third of the games are really cheap (around 20 to 30 dollars). among them great classics like Samurai shodown 1+2, Fatal Fury special and others. i also disagree with the statement NG games became great when they quit making platformers and other stuff. NG has some great sports games (Baseball stars 2) and Top Hunter is no crap either
The Neo Geo was indeed released for sell to the "public" in 1990 but the system was developed and released for use in japanese hotels, and for renting purposes, and that was in the late 80`s, but SNK quickly began selling the system through stores when customer response indicated that people were willing to pay the high prices.
that was NOT in the late 80´s, the neo geo was even on mvs NOT released before 1990. the full home release of the AES was in June or July 1991, the rental deal was in late 1990, early 1991. i really wonder where some people get this myth of the neo geo being from the 80´s...

even today i do play a lot on my neo geo. got Art of Fighting 3 a few days ago, sweet game. Unfortunately (like on all systems) there are some games on the neo geo that are utter crap. Legend of Joe Success and Andro Dunos come to my mind. The two Stakes Winner games are also totally stupid...a real shame the home system got the 2 horse racing games but never saw a home version of Shock troopers 1 or Prehistoric isle 2. Even though the neo geo library does not have much variation quality is high

I agree with the guy in the video, this is one of the best systems ever made and would put other competitors to shame for the most part. Neo Geo games were the main reasons why I went to the arcades back in the day, unfortunately I never owned the home console for reasons out of my control. Neo Geo games for the most part never get old with me,these games for the most part had great depth, graphics, and most important gameplay. I still play these games on my pc via emulation.
Well, I still hope, that one of my disk-drive-systems will last a fiew decades, but it´s true! Those oldschool-platformes may last longer than even the next next-gen systems.

actually you couldn't be more wrong mvs games originally sold for like $500 to $1000 to arcade vendors they didn't want the arcade vendors buying the cheaper at the time $200 aes games thats why the pin out is different, and the control kicks ass it's not snk's falt new gamers can't use a fighing stick i mean i saw some kids the other day playing an mvs using the buttons with there thumbs like a control pad wtf? and if you must have a pad the neo cd pad is compatible with the AES

Should have mentioned some other fighters like KOF 97, Metal Slug 3, Baseball Stars 2.There are actually more other type games than fighting games(even though fighters are the best games for it). A lot of the games he mentioned are $20-$40 and easy to find, even though some say it isn't. The system is easy to find for as low as $140-$200. You can mod it to have better video with S-video, Component Y/U/V and a special BIOS with built in cheats and region settings.
Raguy (Blue's Journey) is NOT crap!!! There are plenty of good games other than just fighting games on Neo Geo like Metal Slug, Pulstar, Blazing Star, Magical Drop 3 etc. Buying an AES is a lot cheaper than Greg makes out. Buy an AES from Japanese ebay sellers they are fairly common on ebay and less than £100($200).
