I don't think you ever really know, but if your dog can focus in the level of distractions that you see at your typical trial environment (indoors or out), then it might be time to give it a try. Some local clubs host 'fun match' trials (simulated the trials environment incl a judge in the ring) and those are well worth entering just to see if your dog is ready. Jessie is ready for indoor trials but since we only have outdoor trials (on grass) locally, it will be longer before we enter one.

@supernaturalbc2009 It also depends on what you like to do. Most people enter long before the dog is actually ready, but do it anyway just for the experience. Others use a trial as a measure of where the team is at. Others wait until the dog is more than ready and in many cases, they want to achieve high scores or placement.

The dog looks more focus and happy in the second run. how to make it happen in one day?

@buddbb The second run was two days later. The handler was much more relaxed, as was everyone else around them. She really focussed on keeping the loose leash so the dog didn't feel like it was being corrected.

That was great! Are there any restrictions on talking to your dog between stations?

@tab289 The nice thing about Rally O (compared to formal obedience) is that you can talk to and make noises etc to your dog all you want! As long as you don't repeat the cue but in some you are allowed to try to repeat the whole station with only minor deductions. Some kinds (CARO, ADPT I think) also allow treats on the person and can be given when the dog is stationary (sit or down).
