Because the Canadian government has been found complicit in the torturing of its own citizen, Omar, it is the government's responsibility to protect the rights of our citizens aboard, regardless of the actions of the American government.

This has nothing to do with civilian justice though, he is a war criminal. Furthermore, the Geneva conventions don't even apply to him because he was not wearing a military uniform. Anyone that attempts to blend into the civilian population while carrying out acts of war forfeits his or her rights to the Geneva conventions, and for very good reason which I'm sure you can figure out.

The only Western citizen remaining in Guantanamo, Khadr is unique in that Canada has refused to seek extradition or repatriation despite the urgings of Amnesty International, UNICEF, the Canadian Bar Association and other prominent organisations.

This is bullshit, our own Canadian Forces allows recruiting into the reserves at the age of 16 (I should know, that's how old I was).

What the Geneva convention on Child Soldiers actually states is children younger than 15 are protected, if Omar had thrown the grenade when he was a year younger you're right he would get off free, thank god he wasn't.
