  • sounds pretty good for being recorded with a potato

  • Don't hate guys. Paul is doing what he does best which is having fun.

  • legit

  • Nice. :]

  • well i am a bass player and apart from grooving i am practicing on shred too. virtuos on bass have to use their fingers fast

  • Get a Spanish Guitar, take proper Flamenco lessons and stay the fuck away from the Bass asshole!

  • fuck i did this with my fingers but when i used a pick i failed epically. I surrender.

  • i can do that with my fingers!!

    ask to my girlfriend!!

  • Nice job! I could never do that. Challenge: do the same without a pick. IT AIN'T EASY LEMME SAY.

  • nice

  • the best bass player is Arif Mirabdolbaghi from pth :3

  • @Fraanco77 Hey another Arif fan :D He's definitely one of the greatest bass players alive today, and has inspired me so much! Will hopefully be seeing them in December. Long live PtH!

  • he's one of my biggest influenses as a bass player. :c i think i'll never get to see them because i live outside of the us and Canada.

  • I'ts like total kristus inversus from aeon

  • tabs ? ;)

  • this style of playing doesn't appeal to anyone past 18 years old. when you learn your instrument, you realize that musicianship, melody and restraint are your best friends when it comes to bass playing. congrats on your technical ability but its just pointless noodling

  • could you give us a tab???menn, will be prettey cool to play that on my bass

  • @DoomBrocovers You can see everything he's doing pretty clearly

  • he is playing yngwie on a bass

  • You don't shred on a bass...you GROOVE MAN! GROOVE!

  • @McPhersonBassMaster You can shred on a bass. It's just not that common. Cliff Burton did it extremely well.

  • @7652642576265fgdrs4h

It don't think you get it...

  • @McPhersonBassMaster What don't I get about it?

  • Awesome!! that's what i want to do.

  • well... guitarists shouldnt play bass lol

  • bull the bassist of necrophagist is ten time as good as this guy and cliff burton

  • @Leon840 That's your opinion, also, different playing styles and different genres.

  • worst looking alien ever

  • fake

  • @solidsnorky how is it fake? lol

  • @riffguy I think you meant to say "this is what happens when you give Cliff Burton a bass"...

  • There is nothing wrong playing bass with pic. I use pic and fingers and I think that with pic you can have sharper and clearer sound than with fingers.

  • I have given a guitarist my bass.. its quite funny seeing him trying to figure out how to play it.. but anyways, awesome video =D

  • @aqimwolstenholme lol ikr, that is quite a funny sight

  • Billy Sheehan could play this, fingerstyle, while sleeping :3

  • There are fast bassguitar players. There are faster bassguitar players. And there is Billy Sheehan.

  • Like it? Fucking love it!

  • I wanna learn to do this stuff. I want to do some leads on bass.

  • the ox was the best bass player.

  • best bass player on earth is mick dirt from grenday

  • @Mrme700 Troll harder.

  • @ThatDisembodiedVoice im not trolling Mick Dirt is orsum. here him on holiday? fbrilliant. Geenday is the best bnad in the last 20 yeas

  • @Mrme700 Fag.

  • @Mrme700 Hahaha Green Gay is for Fags like you who know nothing about real Punk rock. Dick Dirt is a fucking faggot who can;t play worth jack shit

  • @GamerNdAirsofter028 his dick is not dirty. it ahs perfect moisture adn he wahses it everiday

  • you are very talented. What about writing own songs?

  • @Metadeth1997 He does have some originals :P "To End All Wars" is the most recent one IIRC.

  • nice

  • don't feed the trolls, people.

  • It's all cute and funny, but man, the shit Cliff Burton could do...

  • this takes skill to play and is shreddy but that doesn't make it good it is a near random collection of notes sure in the same scale but either way there needs to be more note selection and it is too fast and lightly fingered one the fret board but all together a skillful if not great sounding job

  • we know it's you, Yngwie...

  • @DiogoAlmeida95 Sausage fingers XD

  • @DiogoAlmeida95 he doesnt have 100kgs of jewerly in his hands , so its not Yngwie :P

  • well aren't you cool!

  • nice, i'm learning this style

  • can you see speed up?

  • @kittylover225 No? Hes just good.

  • I know that this isn't what playing bass is all about... but it sounded great! :)

    good work man :)

  • 744 people have attempted this and failed

  • NOW THATS THE WAY BASS IS SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED!!!

  • Same thing happens to me with a bass. Except it's not so........ riffguy-ish

  • dude thats sick! i want the tablature for that and i want to try to learn it

  • "this is what happens when you give a guitarist a bass"

what, he plays it like a guitar instead of a bass? he turned the bass into a glorified guitar... ¬¬

  • @CannibalisticTomato maaann if you play guitar mmm I invite you to play a masterpiece in a bass !!!!! Im sure that you cant!!!!

  • @sebastianspace i dont play guitar, i play bass, if i wanted to play bass like it was a guitar, i would have bought a guitar.. and, calm down on the exclamation marks, it doesnt get your point across, it makes you look uneducated.

  • Try It With Your Fingers. Like C.B.... C.B. can do this with no bass

  • lol why cant regular bass players have such swag i guess it takes only a guitarist to truly play bass

  • @RainOnMyParade100 That's the most musically ignorant statement I've seen in a while.

  • @RainOnMyParade100 Lolwut?

  • @RainOnMyParade100 That makes no fucking sense.

  • @RainOnMyParade100 You must be trolling. I refuse to believe that such stupidity exists.

  • @RainOnMyParade100 more liek it takes a guitarist to do solos and act like its a guitar...go find a reall bassist doin it than ya will find somethin good...

  • nobody can beat Cliff Burton R.I.P.

  • @wtty33 Geezer Butler!

  • @wtty33 I think this guy just did.

  • @wtty33 *cough Les Coughpool cough*

  • @wtty33 Lolol many people can beat him. Very ignorant statement on your part.

  • @wtty33 Jaco Fucking Pastorious. I rest my case

  • @SevenisNine Robert Trujillo has hes Bass of Doom

  • @SevenisNine NO

  • @wtty33 how about...steve harris, chris squire, geddy lee, and victor wooten....damn... there is a point to being a fan but if you think someone is the only one who can do that then he isnt human. Cliff just happened to be in a band that got picked up by a record deal. Don't be so naive. Just in my town alone I have found some inhuman musicians that are better than their idols. And that is not an 'opinion.'

  • Some people can type 100 words per min., but often they just end up doing boring data entry, typing in long lists crapola, and have nothing at all to say. -- Other people can only type with one finger and write/express the most incredible poetry -- That's the beauty of stringed instrumemts. They only put out what the player puts in.

  • O_O! u just made bass look cooler, thx =D

  • That's why you don't give a guitarist a bass!

  • @noatabriz On the contrary..i think thats why you..should....lol

  • this is actually really easy to do

  • @Japxican I doubt this very much.

  • @MrSamTheFlowerMan Nah, it actually is easy if you just practice and try. I play guitar, and after like 5 years of practice it becomes a piece of cake. You just need the ambition to do it which most people have trouble with. Whats funny is when I play guitar or base for people they are like how the fuck do you do that, and im just like, man its easy lol. I dunno thats just me though. Everyone is different. I guess some people do find this hard. I cant rap fast like bone thugs i think thats hard

  • @Japxican Like you said 5 years of practice. I've been playing for 7 years and I know what you mean by it gets easier with practice, it still takes a lot of skill and concentration in order to achieve this speed of playing I certainly wouldn't say playing anything on guitar is easy to be honest, definitely not shredding on the bass :P

  • @MrSamTheFlowerMan Lol yeah. Well its hard at first, the thing that trips me out the most is how well muscle memory works. cause i play riffs and all that shit, but i also play a lot of classical. And classical guitar there are a lot of notes but after some practice your body just naturally remembers all that. Its crazy.

  • @Japxican I know what you mean :P Everything is so much easier after learning classical.

  • @Japxican Guitar or bass it's all in getting a feel for it. Plus you have to develop you ear to listen to the pitch changes. What continues to amaze me is how beautifully playing both compliment each other. Playing one helps develop both creativity and skill with both. Bass helps you stretch and give fingers real strength, while guitar helps develop speed (shred) and even makes it easier to spot chord voicing and solos on bass.

  • I think it's an excellent idea for a guitarist to pick the bass every once and while. If not to play bass, but to improve finger strength. Still, I encourage guitarists to pick it up and give it a try, learn a little about it. It will improve any guitarist in the long run. I would also encourage a bassist to pick up a guitar every now and then.

  • muy sucio, no se entiende nada

  • This is what it sounds like when you give a bassist a bass.

  • I agree with the dude below. Besides, van halen didnt just own the neck on an electric guitar, he can do the same on an acoustic. Just like this dude on a bass.

  • his the white stanley clarke

  • 737 people can suck it!!!

  • Holy crap ur AWESOMELY AMAZING!!!! Hahahahahaha nice description!!

  • Fast licks, but thats not the bass players job, to be EVH on the 4 string!! Can you lay down a simple 4/4 groove?? I doubt it. Can you play a blues tune in Am and know what you are doing?? I doubt it! This is lame AND boring. Can you play some swingin bass lines in a big band, or Chicago blues? I doubt it! Go bow down to your Sniff Burton and Stevie Harris posters, and go to bed with your stuffed Eddie doll, like all the Iron Maiden fans!!

  • @1234maddiekinz Go play your shitty ACDC songs with 3 notes. Did you even read the description, asshat?

  • @1234maddiekinz

You lack even basic intelligence, I can see why your parents don't love you. "This is what happens when you give a guitarist a bass." Riffguy, as he is known, is actualy a damn good guitarist. He just decided to shred some Yngwie-esque lines on a bass one day, not knowing that Aspies like you would flame him for no reason. Also, lame and boring my ASS. Bass players can play fast solos too, just look at Billy Sheehan. Who wants to see a bass solo of just a 1-4-5 progression?

  • i pop slap with my penis

  • wow. just wow.

  • one word

    SICK

  • piece of shit, this is terrible and im sure everyone in the audience wil agree with me :)

  • @madonnafan233 noope cant help ya there

  • @madonnafan233 fail

  • i was looking for inspiration. now ive just been put to shame. thanks a lot

  • a lot of metal bass player use fingers, Ryan Martini (Like @Metalballs2010 said) and the bassist from Between the Buried and Me as well. Cliff Burton also finger walked, and Metallica's current bassist does to. I personaly don't like pick style playing i can never get a real feel for the rhythm in it.

    Nice playing though dude.

  • @CBD670 don't forget one of the best metal fretless bass player: Steve DiGiorgio

  • hey guys, its all about the sound you want, if you want something more funky or jazzy, then use your fingers and or slap, if you want something faster played in a lot of rock stuff, go for a pick, its just the style that u prefer, and whatever sounds good, sounds good.

  • @angeman3000 But some rock or metal bassist uses fingers too, and you know Ryan Martini, Mudvayne's bassist? He even uses slapping and tapping for a metal music

  • when will this finger vs pick stupidity end? Damn you stupid folks, its just another way of playing the instrument, like tapping or slap. Im a professional bass player and Ive heard this bullshit all my life. When will it end?

There's no "Better" way in music, just play you MF's.

  • omg you can move your fingers fast and hit half the notes your playing your a god

  • most bands even play with picks just because of the speed and you get a quicker string change so dont diss it

  • @bjones500 i dont think its quicker. look at steve harris. he does miracles with his fingers

  • Id be more impressed if you played taht with your fingers like a real bassist

L2ook up billy sheehan to see how to really shred on bass.

  • @DividedWeFall666 look up david ellefson,chris squire,roger waters,& lemmy before judging who's a "real" bassist & who isn't.

  • sounds like some arabian shit

  • funny how offended finger pickers get by us that choose to use a pick, i personally think its because theyre jealous of the attack and speed we can get.

  • @polehammer I use fingers.... and im not offended.... I can also use my fingers faster then I can with a pick, so.... idk....

  • this is so unimpressing he basically played nothing........anyone who thinks this guy is good has no sense of musical skill

  • I'd rather play like this with a pick (because he fucking rocks & picks are just as good as any other method) than play the fucking root note with slap/fingerpicking.

  • Hey people, calm it down. Its easier to play bass with a pick. Thus Joey Dimaio and that guy from Rancid. So this guy in the vid, tho very skilled, probably cant do nearly as well when hes made to do a 2 or 3 finger walk. (Bassists know what I'm talking about) and on top of that, any person who thinks the bass is just an easier guitar has obviously never heard of slap bass. When it comes right down to it, sure you may play well with a pick. But you got nothing on Geddy Lee or Victor Wooten.

  • @joltzkrieg i've heard plenty guys say"its easy to play with a pick",yet none of them know how to play with one.plectrum wouldn't make playing any easier,i've seen guys who strictly use fingers use a pick & get frustrated just trying to mute let alone play.it depends how frequently u use either style,if u only use fingers it will be easier with fingers or if u only use a pick its easier with a pick cuz its what ur use to.if hes good its cuz hes good not cuz he uses a pick, look at geezer butler.

  • @MrSFblack Yeah, playing bass with pick is not really that easy, because bass has thick strings, so sometimes, when I play hard, the pick will fall off from my hand in the middle of the song

  • i dont give a fuck what happens when you give a guitarist a bass, i wanna see a bassist with a bass. this had no soul.

  • very cool indeed

  • 728 people are either jealous guitarists or Cliff Burton-worshipping douchebags who loathe picks just because their "god" didn't know how to use one.

Anyway, nice shredding there, tex. But let me just say from experience that shredding on a bass becomes easier and easier the more strings you have. I'd recommend checking out a 5-string or 6-string; I'd only been playing a 6-string I found at Guitar Center for 10 minutes before I decided to buy it. AND I HAVE NO REGRETS.

  • @BatteryHilltheband Do your mother without a pick.

  • picks are fine on bass guitar, but on upright bass thats just stupid

  • instrument aside, that was sick as fuck.

  • pick or fingers dont matter depends what tune you want to play and how it sounds i play with either should a drummer play with sticks or brushes????????? as long as your playing music its alllll goooooood

  • Shred? Guitar runs arranged for bass. I've known guitarist who switched to bass guitar and played in similar fashion but eventually learned how to play bass.

  • amazing make tabs!

  • sounds so fucking co0l

  • Picks take away from the bass legend, slap and pluck is where the best bass is at.

  • The only retards that bash bass players for using picks aren't even musicians so their opinion is obsolete.

  • @Cxaxakluth that doesnt even deserve a like that deserves a high five

  • @thatcoolG Thanks bud. It just really pisses me off when I think of one of those judgmental douche bags criticizing bass players for doing... well anything on bass with a pick. I can just see some fifteen year old twat sitting at a computer in his bedroom who knows nothing about musicianship, picking his nose and rambling on about what the proper techniques are for playing bass guitar. I can guarantee you that they don't even know why they don't like bass players using picks.

  • @Cxaxakluth it's so true bro like honestly some of the greatest bassists in history are pick players we shall unite and rise against the "normal" way of doing it i personaly dont use a pick but idgaf if another player does rock on pal

  • @thatcoolG I can't stand using picks myself but all the power to those who. Rock on bud \m/.

  • @Cxaxakluth thats right, picks can be used on bass, what matters is the sound it comes out of the instrument

  • @Cxaxakluth -- Dave Slave is a multi Skilled bass player and he uses a pick ( Fastest Bass Shreder ever!) and thumb and all fingers, there is more than 1 way to skin a cat!

  • @Cxaxakluth Pix are ghey.

I pound drums, and I shred. Seriously, why call them a bassist if they're using pick. That's just a guitarist with fatassed strings.

  • @D00MEDST You obviously aren't a bass player... You get different tones when you use a pick on the bass and it's easier to keep certain rhythms with a pick as opposed to your fingers. If you "shred" like you claim you do you should know that. Go back to pounding your drums and quit bitching about pick usage, you non-contributing zilch.

  • @Cxaxakluth You fucking dipshit.

  • @D00MEDST What a fucking waste of a reply that was... Most people explain why they think someone's a dipshit. You clearly have no reason to think that. You're just being a child. Now, as I said before, go back to pounding drums... Or, better yet, go pound sand, you thud fuck.

  • @Cxaxakluth Type your ass off. That shit's funny.

Blasting drums is way more fun and more skills, too. You shouldn't criticize die-hard drummers. Better yet go make a band without em.

  • @D00MEDST "Blasting drums is way more fun" well that's completely subjective. It all depends on who you ask. "...and more skills, too." Well, getting past the atrocious grammar, how would know what requires more skill if you don't play bass? Not only, that you have to take into consideration all of the different styles of bass playing. I'm not taking anything away from drummers. My best friend plays drums and we jam together quite often. All I'm doing is calling you a thud fuck.

  • @Cxaxakluth "how would know", l0l, atrocious indeedy

  • @D00MEDST -.-... There's a big difference between a type-O and having atrocious grammar in general.

  • @Cxaxakluth Do you know that "you're" exists ?

0r do you say "your" is everything ?

  • @D00MEDST I know what all of those words mean, but I have no idea WTF you just said.

  • @Cxaxakluth Well done.

  • Very cool!

  • Yngwie? Is that you? haha. very good!!

  • I like to slapadabass

    but picking is cool too...

i think that's just what happens when you give a guitar player a bass... he can't play without a pick..

  • Playing bass with a pick is not bad.. its all about preference.. i just thinks it sounds a lot better with fingers but hey, a bassist is better than none.

  • i prefer playing with the finger technique but there is nothing wrong with playing bass with a pick just a different style, and yes playing that fast or faster is possible with your fingers (for those who din't know)

  • you are great!

    fantastic!

  • that.was.amazing.

  • this sounds so much like billy sheehan

  • tabs please

  • There's nothing wrong with using a pick. I mean shit why would anyone want to limit themselves to one technic. Most of the folks that are "Fingers Own" can't even use one.

  • @Chtulufan9

It's also a matter of taste, personally I feel like I rape my bass when I use a pick. Not because it is gay or anything, but I just don't like the sound and besides I find it kinda challenging to learn to play a pick played riff with finger style.

  • if you use a pick for sound on the bass its okay. using a pick for speed means PRACTICE MOAR!

  • guitar player with a bass, WTF

  • I have that same bass and love it, btw anyone who gets on him about using a pick is a dumbass. A pick is a tool to be used and this man just used it to great effect.

  • He uses a pick so what he's still a bass player... I use both..don't judge xD

  • hehe, love it! Those strings don't half bend though. What gauge are they?

  • there's a clip on youtube of a guy using adrum stick for a bass solo somewhere

  • I love using a pick on my bass. I think it sounds sick, like a fucking funk cannon. But if you wanna use your fingers I'm not stopping you. I just prefer splitting the earth rather than shaking it.
