actually, rock climbing is a relatively safe activity. most injuries are minor and involve things like torn muscles. bones are VERY RARELY broken and falling is extremely safe, due to pads and ropes. the only time rock climbing results in deaths is when the climber makes a stupid, fatal mistake, such as unintentionally taking themselves off belay, or tempting fate by going "free-soloing", widely regarded a pointless risk of life by the majority of climbers.

There are those who argue that people living in countries with free universal health care pay much higher taxes. Its true they pay higher taxes, but not much higher. Canadians for example pay about 8% more in overall taxes than Americans, but Canadians get much more in return then Americans do. Our taxes go to fund the military and corrupt companies. We have to pay for health insurance which is expensive, and costs much more than the taxes Canadians and Europeans have to pay.
Our health care system is so corrupt that millions of Americans' health are being affected everyday. We should have Universal healthcare so that all Americans from all walks of life can get free healthcare. Even the homeless should get the same care as everyone else. I agree w/ Michael b/c I was denied coverage for "pre-existing" conditions but wasn't told until 1yr after I got treatment. The bills totaled $750+. I was fired b/c I couldn't come back to work the day after my twins came home from the NICU. I tried to work things out,to settle for a lesser amount,to make payments & finally recieved a letter saying that I would no longer be able to receive healthcare in their system. Every office within 25 miles of my home is owned by that healthcare system!

This is truly appalling given the GDP of the USA, and every American should be ashamed of that fact.
These figures aren't biased either, as they come from the USA's own "CIA World Factbook 2009", and the 2006 United Nations World Population Prospects report.

actually, rock climbing is a relatively safe activity. most injuries are minor and involve things like torn muscles. bones are VERY RARELY broken and falling is extremely safe, due to pads and ropes. the only time rock climbing results in deaths is when the climber makes a stupid, fatal mistake, such as unintentionally taking themselves off belay, or tempting fate by going "free-soloing", widely regarded a pointless risk of life by the majority of climbers.

Who's ass did you pull that figure out of; yours or Rush Limbaugh's? Either way, it's gross-ly inaccurate. (that pun works on 2 levels) Most of the highly exaggerated figures come from projections 10's or even 100's of years into the future. Even the most conservative (another pun) estimates have us keeping up with Medicare and SS costs until 2042 at the current rates, and paying out 75% thereafter. There are those who argue that people living in countries with free universal health care pay much higher taxes. Its true they pay higher taxes, but not much higher. Canadians for example pay about 8% more in overall taxes than Americans, but Canadians get much more in return then Americans do. Our taxes go to fund the military and corrupt companies. We have to pay for health insurance which is expensive, and costs much more than the taxes Canadians and Europeans have to pay.

Two illegal Mexican immigrants get in a fight. Both get stabbed, one very seriously. Both get EMT response and are transported to the hospital where they are both treated with the excellent standard of care provided in the US. Both get surgery one is in the OR for 9 hours then intensive care for a week. The cost is probably in the tens of thousand of dollars. Neither one has insurance or has ever contributed to taxes. US citizens are paying for this everyday. No system can take that drain.

for example when a us citizen goes to other country in Europe, if he has a hearth attack, the european hospital the doctors make a intervention, any type, including a hearth trasplant, hospital doesn´t charge for that. its a stal for the us citizens, trasplants to us citizens grows up 37% last year in Spain, the reason is that they came here to Spain because is free and they don´t paid, while in US that sort of interventions are extremely expensives, POOR RICH US CITIZENS!!

It's tragic really. Americans opposed to universal healthcare are brainwashed by insurance and drug companies into believing in the "free market" and "choice." I agree w/ Michael b/c I was denied coverage for "pre-existing" conditions but wasn't told until 1yr after I got treatment. The bills totaled $750+. I was fired b/c I couldn't come back to work the day after my twins came home from the NICU. I tried to work things out,to settle for a lesser amount,to make payments & finally recieved a letter saying that I would no longer be able to receive healthcare in their system. Every office within 25 miles of my home is owned by that healthcare system!

Please don't accuse me of being one of these sheeple that believes whatever I hear Michael Moore says. I have been all over the world and I was born in the in the USSR (who's healthcare system the Cuban one is modeled after), so I have some perspective on healthcare. My grandparents were Russian doctors. Plus I have done several research papers on the subject. There is nothing in Sicko that is untrue, or exaggerated. Michael Moore is right on. If you want universal health care in America, go buy "Sicko" on DVD, watch it, including the special features, then pass the disc onto someone who hasn't seen it. Encourage them to pay it forward and get your friends to do the same. Follow that several month education campaign up with a national strike, i.e. everyone not going to work until we get HR 676 and we might get what we deserve.

We are still a lot smaller than European government though and adding public health care would make us equal. Iraq? We are trying to get it stopped, no luck yet. Nukes? Based on the media reports about UHC in other countries it seems the end result is long wait times for treatment and there are many reports in the UK where the government can deny treatment based on behavior, traits or habits they deem unacceptable based on what could be pre-determined cost/benefit profiles.
